Out With the Old--In With the New!
Miss Topaz replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
and now I'm regretting my protein pancake topped with natural peanut butter - I want a smoothie! I supposed there is lunch, or breakfast tomorrow. Doing great Fluff! I haven't been on much but when I do, I check on you first - continue to be inspired by your strength and dedication! I went down a size in jeans this week, but damn - hubs is at work today so maybe I need to sneak into the closet and see how his jeans fit he's been losing as well so I'm not lighter than him yet, but I'm closing in quickly! -
40+ what is age appropriate clothing to you?
Miss Topaz replied to Healthy_life2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
EXACTLY! I am 53 and only 10 weeks along in my journey, but so far my style has not changed. Jeans and tees are classic. Classic lines in slacks and cardigans for work. They work for me and after this many years, they've been a far better investment. I did buy a cold shoulder top last year and loved it. Classics with a few in-style pieces. But sometimes those might be on-trend costume jewelry or scarves over the more classic clothes. A couple years ago a friend's 20 year old daughter told her mom that she was impressed that I was "always put together" - obviously doesn't see me bumming around the house -- which was great. I try not to work at it too hard, hence the classics. But NOT frumpy if I can help it. That part is tougher right now as things are getting too big quickly -
Wow! The difference is amazing! Congrats!

Was just talking to my surgeon about this earlier this week. It's normal, especially if you've been working out. He says generally give it a week or two and it turns around. Make sure to record your food, as mentioned above. If you've upped your workout, you may need to slightly up your calories as well. Your body can react. But I agree, maybe up your protein, reduce your carbs. Keep up with the fluid. and keep exercising. good luck!

not sure what your protein goal is for breakfast, but if lactose is not an issue, you can add dry milk powder to milk to make a (i forget what they call it) an extra fortified glass of milk. It's just milk tho so not sure if that would satisfy.

Tempted to consume less protein shakes.
Miss Topaz replied to Polymorphing's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is a lot of calories for 6 weeks out. I'm at 10 weeks and average 700 and my RD told me this week that I should be at 600 instead. That protein shake seems high. Is it the protein powder or what you're mixing it with? Personally, the protein goal is the only real goal other than fluids my program is concerned with. Protein is important for maintaining muscle, and reaching that goal consistently is supposed to be helpful in minimizing hair loss. That being said, most goals at this point would be 60 gr, not sure what you're trying to reach. Some good stuff in previous comments - is there a way to up your protein at other meals? If you don't like protein powder, can you add nonfat dry milk powder to soups or oatmeal or other foods to add additional protein? Given the relatively small amounts you are likely eating at this point, a protein shake might be your best bet. -
In 2008 I came down with chronic hives and battled rash and itch for years. I went on prednisone full time for 6 months and then a "maintenance dose" for a long time. I was overweight/obese to begin with, but my weight ballooned. By January 2013 when I joined weight watchers I was uncomfortable in my own body and very unhappy. In the evening, on a scale at weight watchers, my weight was recorded as 340 pounds. I did weight watchers consistently ( but not perfectly) for 2 years and lost 65 pounds. After that, lots of things happened - job changes, life changes - and I became less consistent with it and gained about 25 pounds back. Moved to another state and changed things up again and gained a few more, but not huge. Decided to start the weight loss surgery process in summer 2017. This morning I stepped on the scale at home (so yes, different scale and different time of day,but with a fleece top on cuz it's cold in my basement) and weighed 239 pounds at 9.5 weeks past surgery! I've lost 100 pounds from my high weight! I still have many more to go to reach my goals, but WOW! I feel so much better. I fit into my life so much better. When it hit me I just burst out crying, alone here in my study with my dogs. Excuse me while I go whip up a protein shake and get ready to go explore a new part of my new home in celebration today!

What a fun way to track your progress! Congrats! -
Thanks all! I've been absent for over a week and am catching up. Just had my 9-10 week follow-up with the surgeon. Down 39.1 pounds on their scale since surgery in January. My dietician thinks I'm actually getting too many calories, but 39 pounds in 10 weeks? I'm a happy girl!

that looks delish! -
Not having fun? With what? Your work? Your life? Your new post-surgery lifestyle? Easy to get stuck in a rut with all of those. Shake it up a bit! Get out and enjoy some sunshine! Go watch the monkeys at the zoo!

11 pounds in a week? You're on track. Only thing you need yo worry about at this stage is protein and fluids. Keep it up and don't worry! Sent from my SM-G920V using BariatricPal mobile app

Hey all - I'm 8 weeks out and stuck in a rut with meal prep. I've been making hard boiled eggs every Sunday (i eat a couple - hubby eats the rest) and tend to make roll-ups with 1 1/2 oz of lunch meat/wedge laughing cow/veggies. I eat yogurt and this week have measured out cottage cheese. I made white bean french onion soup this weekend too. But am getting bored with eggs and my rollups. I have done egg cups previously but am not overly fond of them. Looking for new ideas, ideally with dense meat protein rather than all the cheese and eggs I'm eating. Feeling like if I cook, I have to eat it FOREVER. Hubby helping now that he's over the nutrisystem he bought for himself during my first post surgery stages.

It seems like it should be more complicated, but I was pretty tired for a few days, getting over the anesthesia. -

Woo hoo! Best of everything to you tomorrow! Right after surgery? Pretty basic. As everyone says - walk and sip. and SLEEP! I found that once I got out of the hospital, I was more comfortable at first sleeping in my husband's recliner. I wasn't flat on my back and also felt supported on the sides and was less tempted to roll over on my side. -

I like the idea of putting the 1/2 cup measure on the scale. My scale has never seen so much use! I'm not sure why I keep putting it away. I should just keep it on the counter since it's used far more than the kitchenaid or kitchen timers that live on the counter! -
Watered down gatorade sounds bad, but I don't like gatorade in the first place. I found that hot herb tea went down really well for me. My first week I wasn't hungry so the food commercials and food network didn't bother me, but now, after 2 months, I am really craving a big slice of pizza!
-
KateBruin - so sorry to hear about this! I hope they get you fixed up soon! Sleeved 8 weeks ago and no complications so far here. I'm feeling very blessed.

Mine is just starting at 8 weeks out and isn't too bad yet. It's part of the journey. My surgeon and RD say to get your protein in - it's the best bet to minimize the loss. But it is temporary!

Fluff - I love the advice to find a set amount of food. I've been trying to do that and am at about a half cup right now, but last night ate an entire cup of white bean french onion soup, plus some spinach that I'd added to wilt in (couldn't do the whole half cup of spinach). Yes, soup has broth, but i made sure I had a lot of solids. I will be meeting with my RD this Friday, but think I'll adopt your method - stick to an amount and I should be ok -

Tips.... patience definitely. The pureed stage seemed to last forever and was a really boring diet, but then it's over and things are so muvh better! One thing that helped me was dry milk powder. I bought unflavored protein powder (it does have a flavor really) and didnt like it. Did much better mixing dry milk powder into things like cream soup. Made them creamier and didnt add a nasty taste. Much cheaper too. Water goes down fine for me, but hot herb tea goes down even easier. I swear by herb tea every morning with 2 tsps of benefiber dissolved in it - to avoid some of the other postop woes Sent from my SM-G920V using BariatricPal mobile app -
