  1. My husband has been so supportive through this journey - bless him. Since my carbs are way low, his are too and he's managed to lose 2 waist sizes in pants since my surgery. However, he calls me "puny human" at least 3 times a day and tells me my butt is getting smaller. I'm pretty sure it's all meant in the best way We went through part of our closet this morning - me sending things to charity, and him switching out smaller sizes for the bigger, but saving the bigger ('just in case' for him). While we were trying things on I told him that my goal for the summer was to get collarbones. His response "the order has been placed - they're in shipping. we just have to find the tracking number" Such a goof, but exactly the sort of light-hearted support I need today! The number on the scale is great. Comparison pictures can be helpful, but trying on clothes and realizing they will fall practically off your hips = the best!
  2. This is a huge decision so no surprise that you're having second thoughts. However, I wish I'd done this 10 years ago when a doctor first suggested it! Your co-workers are well-meaning but not well-informed. They haven't done the research and have likely just heard that you can only ever eat a tablespoon of food ever again (I had someone tell me that). The first few weeks are tough. Won't lie and say they're not. But 15 weeks out, I went out with hubby last night, had a bowl of chili (well, not all of it - big bowl) and even had my first drink post-op. Life is "normal" but I would say I eat like those "skinny b*****s" we used to see out. No one at work knows I've had surgery and they just think I've reduced my portions, but they see me eat and don't bat an eye.
  3. I'm so sorry to hear this. But I do understand. We're estranged from hubby's sister and her family. Her choice but I often wonder if she regrets it (tho my life has so much less drama now). We have friends who refer to our relationship as the "no drama family" that we all chose.
  4. I haven't ventured to CO wine country yet. It's on the other side of the mountains, cuz on the eastern side, nothing grows but prairie grass! I did break the taco trend last night by getting bison/prickly pear cactus chili. It was tasty! Hubby tried the 'devilled egg tacos' which were, as I expected, weird and unsatisfying. I did do a bariatric no-no though. I ordered a drink with dinner - drank some beforehand but did sip some in between bites of chili. I'd had over 60g protein earlier in the day so didn't feel too bad. First alcohol since sleeve! It was a cider made with CO peaches (which are awesome - from the other side of the mtns of course) and 'high-altitude' apples. Not sure we have any other kind in this state! I didn't finish the pint as tiny tum was full, but it was tasty and didn't immediately make me fall off my bar stool. I think 2 would've done it though! Re those jeans - I haven't tried his jeans yet, but a couple years ago we got quick dry pants for kayaking. I had xxl and he had xl. I tried on the xl yesterday and they fit! So in a way, I'm now wearing his pants And now, talking about wine tasting, I want some good salumi and cheese for dinner.... I can live without the baguette and sweet butter, but damn..
  5. Looking great! It's not a race, so being a turtle is just fine! Keep up the good work!
  6. My weekend check-in Fluff - glad to see you're still doing great! Hubby has lost 2 waist sizes since I've had surgery and his carbs went waaaay down (he's pretty good about eating what I feed him. We're neck and neck right now, trying to pass each other in weight. Can't remember the last time I weighed the same as my husband! Greek salad sounds excellent. Today is all taco/fajita all day for us (Happy Cinco de Mayo!) but I'll be grocery shopping tomorrow....
  7. Also a fair-skinned redhead here. At least I'm not the only member of the fish-belly white club!
  8. Hey all - thought I'd check in with an NSV this morning! Struggling with a stall that seems to be lasting all month, so turned to clothing instead. One of the things that always made me sad while on vacation was not being able to fit into cute souvenier t-shirts in women's sizes. I don't usually care about brand names, but in particular with tees, I've always wanted a "life is good" shirt. Well, at Cabelas, checking out the life is good section a couple, I couldn't decide on short sleeve or long sleeve would be my goal. Wasn't planning to buy because surely they wouldn't fit! Hubby threw both in the cart and checked out. Tried them on this morning and both fit perfectly! Woo hoo! I was going to wear an old, too big shirt today, but screw that - Life is Good! Also had one of my employees approach me this week and say "I don't want to be weird or anything, but you look fantastic". trusting the process.....

    Non Scale Victories

3 months post op. Most of my NSVs are clothing related - down to a 1x from 3x. Shopping starting to be fun again! Just bought a shoes in W rather than WW! Can cross my legs! And my primary care doc reduced my bp meds last week and so far, so good on the bp! Hubby calls me "puny human" because I'm getting small. He sees it more than I do - body dysmorphia!
  10. about 12 weeks out here. The first week it's normal to feel like 'what have i just done?', but no regrets. I'm on a "normal" diet now - which is not exactly what i used to eat, but is really quite manageable and enjoyable. I eat everything I want, even candy, in moderation, with emphasis on protein. I have avoided a couple trigger foods, but go out to eat weekly with my husband and have not felt like I suffered. Often my meal is better than his! AND - shopping is starting to be fun again!

    No regrets guys!

    amazing!

NSV (since the scale seems stuck)

So now instead of regular size stores ignoring you, plus size are rude? Weirdly awesome! But seriously, never acceptable for a store clerk to be rude to a customer

    I wish I never had this done...help!

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

    Introduction

Welcome! I'm 53 and wish I'd done this several years ago when a doctor first recommended it. Start saving - even just loose change adds up over months!

NSV (since the scale seems stuck)

Thanks! I treated myself with a trip to TJMaxx to try on work blouses Came home with just one! I should check my profile and see if that 40 pounds is still accurate....
  16. I've been trying to do less computer time in the evenings, but I missed you gals for support! I think it's as important as exercise for success in this!
  17. Miss Topaz

    Normal BMI!

    Fantastic! congratulations!
  18. Back on after too long away and catching up. I was really happy to read your RD saying this. At 3 months out, my RD told me that I was eating too many calories (averaging 700)! She thought I should be 600 or less. I couldn't believe it! I've continued to average 700 and am now feeling pretty justified after reading your post. Keep rockin' Fluffer! You look great!

    Weird Happy Surprise

she said 1/2 - 3/4 cup, which is pretty much what i have been following. i asked about carbs and she didn't really seem to have a limit, so told me 50g or less per day "that shouldn't be too restrictive". generally she's really good, but yeah, 300-600 is crazy. there are days I get 600, even less but definitely closer to 700 most days

    Weird Happy Surprise

Thanks for reminding us it's not linear! I envy your 1200 calories. I saw my RD at 10 weeks out and she was not happy I was averaging 700 calories (with a couple restaurant 1000 cal days). She said at that point she expected me to be at 300-600 calories. WTF? 300 isn't even 3 premier protein shakes! I suppose if I were super duper good and only ate chicken breast and baked fish (and I hate fish) it would be possible. I'm comfy with my 700 calories for now, and losing, albeit not 4 pounds a week. I'm with you - consistent and it will come. I need to up my exercise intensity though. Too bad my sweatin to the oldies was on VHS and didn't make the move to CO with us!
  22. Ok, you were accountable. You figured out what's setting you off. Now you get back on the down-filled (very fluffy) wagon and get back to business! She says, knowing she ate meatloaf made with italian sausage rather than lean meat yesterday.... I was at a sports bar and even their chicken sandwich only came fried! But hubby has claimed the leftovers and I'm moving on - as should you! Weekends are toughest for me. Home with food and out for lunch and/or dinner. and let's not start on a trip to Costco where the sample pushers work overtime on the weekend! My work week routine and packing my food saves me on those days. taco salad does sound good though!
