Need Help Understanding United Healthcare Policy Wording
skbishop78 replied to Watermelon's topic in Insurance & Financing
Hey, I have UHC with Best Buy (DH is Manager at BB). We had 5 plans to choose from and I chose the 4th plan knowing that I wanted this surgery and it paid 90%. I felt lucky getting that...wow i couldn't imagin 100%!!! NurseTeresa, I am so sorry to hear of the trouble you are having. I know you are a full-time nurse and mom, but if you could swing a part-time job at somewhere that offers insurance like Best Buy then you could get the surgery and have it paid for 90%...I know that sounds crazy, but it would be worth it in the long run to work a couple of months to get approved and get the surgey done and then quit. Sounds mean, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Let me know how it goes! -
Need Help Understanding United Healthcare Policy Wording

DId you find out about UHC, I have UHC and they are paying 90% no questions asked really. My surgeon got a pre-auhorization and that was it....I am in TN though, it may be different. They have several plans though, and different plans cove different things. I called everyday until I got my approval, it took them 2 weeks. I started the whole process on Jan 2, and am getting banded On Feb 20th, I thought that was pretty quick. Stay on them....call the back of your card, and speak to someone, they can tell you 100% without question what you are covered for. Good luck!!! -
That is too funny....love the pic

Thanks for all the suggestions...I am printing this off and adding them to my list. Some of them I hadn't thought of. I am hoping as far as the cost, that my insurance will pick up the fills. They pay 90% of my procedure and I have a $1500 out of pocket max for the year...so that will do it after surgery, so I am hoping they will pay for fills. Does getting fills hurt? They said it feels like a bee sting....sorry I am a little scared, can ya tell?

Hey everyone... I am getting banded on Feb 20th. (monday). My employer says I have 3 days including surgery day. So that means....I will be back at work Wed or Thursday. I work a desk job that is minimal movement unless I want to and our office is so small it is really impacted when I am not there so I feel kind of obligated to get back to work asap! What do you all think, can I go back to work on WED? I have had laporoscopy surgery getting my appendix removed and for endometriosis....and did alright with it...but this is totally different. What do you guys think?

I am getting banded by Dr Morton in Nashville and was just wondering if anyone had been banded by him. I hear he is a great surgeon.

HI, I am so sorry to hear of all of this happening to you. I too had a similar experience in 2004. I was 26 and they found a large mass with blood flow through it on my cervix. I had to wait 2 weeks to find out if it was cancer or not. They sent me down to the Vanderbilt Cancer center to meet with a specialist. Walking through the doors was the scariest thing I had ever done. I cried just thinking about it. I had an 8 month old daughter and all I could think about was her. BUT.....I had good news delivered to me from the specialist...she was 99% sure that it was not cancer after looking at my biopsy. So they treated me for endometriosis and It started to shrink. The reason I told you this is because it can come back to be good news, just because they suspect it doesn't mean 100% that you have cancer. I will pray for you and your husband and may God give you the strength you need. Let us all know how things go!

Going to work 2 days after surgery?
skbishop78 replied to skbishop78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the concern guys...my Dr only does surgery on Mon, Tues, and Wed. and he was booked up on the Tues and Wed, and I would have had to wait 2 more weeks to get the surgery....and I am so ready to get it done! I think I am going to come in on WED for a 1/2 day and see how I feel. I had a c-section and was walking at the mall 5 days later, so maybe I will be ok. I don't know...I might have to have a coming to Jesus meeting with the Boss!!! -
Hey everyone, I am getting banded on Feb, 20th and I have so much anxiety about it. I want to get this done, but I have read so much about infections, port pain, slippage, and thats only to name a few. I am really nervous, excited...but nervous. I go Feb 8th to have my pre-op appointment, I guess this is where they will put me on the 2 week pre-op diet. Is it really all liquids? Will someone post back with some insight as to what is a normal experience and calm my nerves some. I have had to take sleeping pills b/c I get so worked up thinking about everything at night. Don't get me wrong I want to do this, I just am a little scared!! I am having Dr Charles Morton do my surgery in Nashville, TN! Current weight: 210 lbs Height: 5'4 :omg:

I am getting banded on the 20th of Feb.....so I know the excitement you are feeling!! Good luck and keep on the boards!

Thanks Everyone....you have given me a better feeling about surgery. I have slept good the last 2 nights now without sleeping pills...so I think I am doing better. I have experienced the "every meal is my last" every since I got my approval.....I have to stop that! I will end up gaining 10 more pounds before I go in for surgery. Well....I start the Pre-op diet on Feb 9th....soooooooo we will see. I have alot of support so I think it will be OK. I will keep in touch!

My DR has not given me my diet yet....I guess I will get that when I go in on the 8th. We will have to keep in touch since we are getting it on the same day. Good luck!

I too am a new user. I don't have a scheduled date yet, I am waiting to hear from my Insurance. I spoke to them this morning and they said it would be 30 to 40 days to be approved, but they did not see why I would be turned down. I am so nervous but excited...I daydream everyday of wearing my "skinny" clothes again...and being excited about going out with friends. I can't wait to have my confidence back again. I love reading how much everyone has lost. Has anyone had a lap-band surgery in Tennessee? I am having Dr Morten in Nashville do mine. He has done over 500 and is a proctor for the Lap-band. I feel confident in his work.

I am also a new user on this site. I went for my consultation for my lapband on January 3, 2006. I was told that I have a 35.8 BMI and I have high blood pressure along with fatty liver, and a huge family history of diabetes. My insurance pays 90% of the surgery if I qualify, which the DR's office said that I do...so now the waiting game. I tell ya I am feeling a little wigged out about all these removals and erosion things i have read. I was under the impression that this was set in for life and that I would most likely have very few problems. I have united health care insurance and the dr's office said that was their easiest carrier to work with. I hope so...keeping my fingers crossed!!! I am 5'3.5 and 206 pounds. Joint pain on my ankles is unbearable. Everyone pray for me. :Bunny
