Eating past the 20 minute mark
JoyandLight replied to gotime0810's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How in the world do you make 2 oz of tuna last 20 minutes? I think I'd have to lick it! Lol -
No weight loss yet
JoyandLight replied to Nancyann617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw my doc a little more than a week after surgery. I had lost 4 lbs, and was not happy with that, given the very small amount of calories I'd consumed. She said she doesn't look at weight until a month has passed. That is bc you are still full of all the fluid they gave you in hospital, plus you are still swollen. She did warn 60 grams of protein is needed every day to keep your body out of starvation mode. I think you are perfectly ok, but call your doc if you are still worried. Congrats on the surgery! -
How is this for not ladylike: I am so jealous!! Which I could have done that!!

Mine went down about a week later. If you think it is still gas, walking helps.

No Seminar - Vitamins - Ocean/Swim - 9 days post: HELP
JoyandLight replied to AlabamaSleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 2 weeks out when I started taking (choking down) a bariatric multivitamin (capsule pulled apart until a month) and calcium citrate (different then regular calcium carbonate) 500mg 3x per day. Space the multivitamin and calcium 2 hours apart. Your body can't absorb any more than 500 my at a time, nor with the iron in the multi. No pills bigger than an aspirin. Ask prescribing doc about any extended release pills---can they be halved? I went into so much detail bc for me the vitamins and pills were worst part of surgery. I take mine one at a time, pretty much an all day affair. My doc said no swimming for six weeks, not just bc of incision, but bc of the different pressure under water. Don't really know what that means, just passing it along. That doesn't mean you can enjoy the water up to your thighs! Good luck and enjoy recouping on an island! -

Swallowing vitamins
JoyandLight replied to chamilton0323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found the multivitamin one of the worst parts of the recovery. I can gag just thinking about pulling the capsule apart. Then how it hurt. And I always took mine with something in my stomach and with a shake. Honestly, I took it about 2x a week. I'm 5 weeks now, and can take the capsule, so it gets better. I found the chewable just as bad as the regular ones! [emoji13][emoji13][emoji13] -
What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
JoyandLight replied to sunmeadow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You couldn't drink for 24 hours after surgery! Omg! I would have choked someone. Congrats on your huge loss!! -

What kind of issues did you have? I'm 5 weeks out, and I feel different mentally. I can't really explain it, I just feel different. -
Try something other than water. I find it very painful. Call you surgeons office. I agree with gotime, it's not something to play with.

Struggling to walk with pain in my side
JoyandLight replied to Jeaniered's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took OxyContin for at least a week after surgery. Seemed like everyone made recovery sound like a breeze, but I was in a lot of pain. -
Does anyone have issues with water hurting? No matter how small of sips I take it feels like a rock in my stomach. All other liquids go down fine, including crystal light. I used to love water, now I dread trying to drink it.

Six months post op questions
JoyandLight replied to Olypie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You ARE doing well! 80+ lbs in 6 months is incredible! Congrats, your hard work paid off! Your docs words were very discouraging. I've never heard it stops that early, loss just slows down. You've already lost 84lbs, if you want to be 150, you can do it! -
Hahaha!! Pre Op I had a 2 week clear liquid diet. About 10 days in, i raise a spoonful of broth with a shaking hand, and gagged before it hit my mouth. Never again!!!

No weight loss first week??
JoyandLight replied to dayoneyearone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my one week follow-up, I had lost 4 lbs. I'd been eating maybe 500 cals a day, feeling like crap, scared of failing, etc. I was very upset. My PA was with wonderful. She said it is the fluids they pump you with in the hospital, and everything around the site being swollen. She said to only weigh once a week, skip it when expecting period, and do not become obsessed with it; rely more on how clothes are fitting and measurements, bc weight can fluctuate so much. As long as it is going the right direction, it is good. She also told me not to go on these sites (weight loss surgery) because everyone's journey is different, dont compare yourself to others. Of course, here I am! But her words really helped. -
3 hr car ride day after surgery
JoyandLight replied to Sophie2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get one of those abdominal wraps (tight-to keep things from jiggling too much), and take a pain killer. The bumps are going to hurt, but bearable. Stairs will be fine. The pain comes in when you have to bend, but sounds like you have a good plan. Good luck! -
I was given adequate pain medicine, but still bending (to get out of bed/chair), coughing, sneezing, etc caused much pain. Not to mention gagging on the multivitamin!!
