I want to do a preop diet for a few weeks before surgery too just to make sure my liver is in good shape for the surgery, even though it is not required by my doc. I have been wondering the same thing. I think i am going to go on a full liquid diet 2 to 3 weeks before surgery, and then clear liquids 1 week before surgery. that should help my body get ready.

i make cheese and onion sandwiches. that is what DH says is the weirdest. thick slices of cheddar on sourdough with fat rings of vidalia onions. vidalias are smaller in size usually, and you can eat a half of one pretty easy. I will also cut them into quarters and serve the wide "onion chips" with other dipping veggies in a veggie platter. But i seem to be the only one who eats them. I put finely chopped vidalias into just about everything for a kick of sweet flavor. Mac and cheese, Soups, salad, casserole, burgers, corn bread, you neam it, i have prolly tried onions in it or on it.

I too would die if I could not have my salads. I love them. And I make so many types of salad. It is one of my hobbies to find new salads to make and put my own twist on it. If I could not eat baby spinach or lettuce after being banded i would just go into a deep depression. LOL

getting an additional plan is tough. most of the places you go to are not going to let you pick up additional coverage because you are over weight. UHC does not offer additional coverage on their policies. As for the Mexico idea, at first I thought people were insane going to Mexico for surgery. But after a lot of studying and research I am comfortable with my choice. I am having my surgery done by one of the first surgeons to offer the Lap Band in the world, he has done over 5000 of the surgeries, has a low erosion and slippage rate, and works out of an American owned hospital in one of the richest cities in Mexico. The hospital itself is nicer than most hospitals here in america. Plus I get to recover at a guest house with a nurse on staff rather than in a hotel room by myself. It is just much more than I would get in america, but for half the price. I get everything, included the guest house and plane ticket, for $9100. That beats the $18k I would pay here in Tampa.

UHC is impossible to beat with their exclusions. I hit the same wall. I have to go self pay down in mexico because of it. They are really good at writing their exclusions to make sure that nothing gets covered. And they don't even look at your letter if they see the exclusion. I do not mean to be a wet blanket, but just letting you know what they are like. Its hard, but if there is an exclusion on there, you are pretty much not going to get anything from them. Sorry for the bad news. if by some miracle you do figure out something with them, let me know! LOL

ohmigosh you guys have me laughing so hard i just about snarfed (laughing till liquid comes out of the nose) my Waist Watcher vanilla Soda. I thought it was the lighting too. not sure how you turn a jade plant purple. I am very impressed with how good it looks now. I have some plants that are in desperate need of help, but I am waiting for a landscaper to come and just plant them all in my backyard. That will surely give them the room and care and sun and rain they need. at least I hope so LOL

TheBestMe, Good for him for holding it though. The first step is them realizing that there will be a mess if they don't hold it. I think in the next few weeks it will become easier and easier. The time just seems to drag out. Your little guy will make it though. An update on Andy. He is doing great with peeing, and pooping, but he has had an occasionaly accident. usually they are on the way to the potty, he just doesn't make it in time. we put pullups on him at night in case there is an accident, but during the day he refuses to wear pullups or underpants. He says he is a big boy at day, little boy at night. But every morning he comes running into our room and into our bathroom so he can go potty, and hasn't had a single accident at night. He refuses to use his bathroom though. We are not sure what that is all about. Even if our door is locked, he will just dance there and knock at the door till we let him in. I included a picture so I can share my little guy with you guys. This was at the beach last weekend, and he was so good. He was just wearing swim trunks, and at one point he yelled out for the whole beach to hear "Momma I gotta go poop!" and just took off to the bathhouse with the restrooms in it. It was hilarious.

yeah well love it up. I got on the scale yesterday and had a two pound GAIN. Son of a biscuit! I have been perfect too. And my workouts are not that muscle building, so I am sure it is not that. I think I am getting close to that time of the month, so even with all the water I am drinking I might be retaining. ugh. I hate my body. congratz though pn. glad you are back  funks suck.

ok, i have a theory. fat people get sunburns a lot worse than skinny people cause all the fat we have on us acts like an internal tanning oil. why do i say this? we spent 5 hours at the beach today. who sat down in front of us but 4 pretty tiny little teenage girls. they laid there and baked, but really did not show signs of burning or darkening. i sat under an umbrella and my leg was accidentally out in the sun for about 5 minutes. INSTANTLY BURNED!! Red as a cheap lobster. and it hurts. now obviously i do not feel this way truly, but what the hell. i used to spend days in the sun with no real probs. now that i am big i fry in a heartbeat!!

My PCP didn't like the band either. She said it wasn't fullproof enough. I had done lots of research, had the same problems with RNY as you did, and went to her, saying that my choice was the band. She said that if I did the band that she would not want me as a patient anymore. SO I CHOSE ANOTHER DOC! LOL I don't need to put up with bullying because of their inexperience, and you do not either. If you want to stay with him, ask him to do some research. Or better yet, send him some printed out research (I am sure Inamed would be happy to send you some!) and write a clear and concise letter explaining your feelings about the band vs. RNY. I say to do it in a letter because sometimes docs can be pushy and hard to talk to. You can't interupt paper. If this is what you want, then go for it! Its your body, and you are the one to ultimately make the decision. I wish you luck in this journey. I know I am excited about mine, and can't wait to have the band put in. I KNOW I am making the right choice for me.

lookg4me, there is a scar stages thread here that you can go through. there are lots of pics from bandsters who have been generous enough to show off their tummies and how they are healing. i would suggest looking in there as well. -
BigPaul always makes me feel really good about myself. He's funny and silly but really smart right when you need him to be. TellyMelly keeps me motivated on days I think I want to slack and theres always a smile on my face when I'm talking to her, she just keeps me laughing. She brightens my day! Cutiern reminds me of my daughter. I love how she is young, independent, and willing to make financial sacrifices to change her life. Dawg is a great husband. Selfless and supportive. He lives a banded lifestyle, without the band, so that he may succeed along side his wife.

***PLEASE! need advice on procedure!*****

Welcome to lap band talk! The decision is really a personal one whether you want to have the lap band surgery or a gastric bypass. If I were you I would call your insurance company and ask them what doctor they would recommend for lap band. Then at least you know that the doctor is in your network and will be covered to the fullest extent. As for the smoking, it is hard, and some doctors will require that you quit in order to have the surgery. The reason why is because when you smoke you lower your body's ability to fight infection, you can slow healing, and put yourself at risk for having a blood clot as you heal. A lot of doc's don't want to take this risk, esp with an overweight patient. Read the threads on the board. Use the search bar. Really go through everything and if you still have questions, post them. There is also a local section for your state, and I am sure that some locals in your area would be able to tell you who a great doc is in your town. You can also read up on docs outside of the country. I know you want this quickly. But make sure you go through and really research all of your options. That way you won't be left asking thousands of questions AFTER being banded. Just a few hundred. -
US holiday created to give us yet another reason to drink. I will be raising my rita to that tonight.

i think they were there for 12 weeks. then they went home and continued to lose. they were losing up to a pound and a half a day at the ranch i think. but they were doing crazy workouts, and eating around 1000 cals a day. we picked up the book. it is pretty interesting to read back through on what everyone ate and how much they lost.
