Execution takes 2 hours, 10 tries, condemned man given bathroom break in the middle
FunnyDuddies replied to marjon9's topic in Rants & Raves
actually, there are a great number of inmates that state their life is better in prison than out on the streets where they once lived. MSNBC runs some shows late at night about the prisons in this country. Each episode is dedicated to one prison. I forget the name of the show, but it is rather interesting to see what some prisons give to their prisoners. One showed that the majority of the prisoners lived in a dorm like setting. They had a big screen in a few rooms, lots of games and stuff, the prisoners were educated and got full health care, and they were fed 3 square meals a day. they were able to earn money doing work, and got paid vacation time after a certain number of hours. Most workers outside of prison don't even get paid vacation! they also had boxing, football, and baseball teams that would compete against other prisons. What happened to the times of penitentiaries that actually made a man penitent for the crimes he had committed? -
Comments like susannah's about the affluence of our nation, as well as some of the arguments to your one point on compassion is what my comment on duty is based on. No, your whole argument has not been on that, but i am addressing those bits of the comments that have to do with our nation's wealth, and the sharing that some people feel needs to happen. I have a hard enough time paying for the schooling of some drop out punk down the street whose parents are too high to care whether he gets and education or not. To pay for the education and healthcare and housing for someone who broke the law coming into this country makes me sick. If they are not going to pull their own weight then why should I take care of them? I am working for my family and those that are trying to make a difference in their lives. Not someone who is going to skirt the system and cut corners. vbmenu_register("postmenu_478697", true);

while this did take longer than normal, it sounds like he got what he wanted. assisted suicide is what it seems to be. he wanted to die, and refused an appeal. he was even joking with the practitioners. as for lethal injection, it is the most humane way of putting someone to death. it is the same way that assisted suicides are usually done. the patient is put to sleep, and the body is shut down by way of drugs. the prisoner feels no pain. except for the needle sticks. what could be more humane? hangings, gun shots, gas chamber, and electric chair are very painful ways to go, and can take a long time as well. Sunta, I am not sure in what form you mean "Fundamentalist Christian". There are so many levels of fundamentalism that you will have to be more clear before I take your bet. -
You can be compassionate and help those who are trying to come to this country by sponsoring them, or providing contact information and the rules on how to migrate to this country. But to say that it is our DUTY because we are wealthier is crazy! We have poor in this country that need our help as well, and we do not need to take in and support the rest of the world's poor. We should not have to pay for another countries mistreatment of their people. The govts which these people often come from are socialist or communist in nature. Those people need to stand up to their govts and force a change. In the meantime, if they feel that America is a better place to live then they should do what is right in coming here and follow the proper rules set. I grew up in the military, so I need help on this from you all. In the Dept of Defense schools we had ESL (English as a second language) classes for those students who did not speak English. We had night classes available for the adults, but it was a requirement for the children to take if they did not speak English fluently. This is a class that would start with kindergarten and go all the way up to 12th grade. Did or do they have that now for students in public schools here? I know there are some private schools teaching it. But I do not know about the public schools. If we do not, then we need to have them. DOD schools also would not allow a student to take their first language as their second language credit. For instance, if you were of Spanish decent, and grew up in a Spanish speaking household, you were not allowed to take Spanish as your second language. But you did get language credit if you took the ESL classes. I think this is great! And when did the second language classes go from the multitude offered (Latin, French, Spanish, Japanese) to just Spanish? I have talked to a few parents whose older children are taking Spanish because that is the only language taught. While I think that having a second language is important for children to learn, I think the particular language is an important choice based on their future career. Latin, Japanese, French, Italian, and Spanish are important to different career paths. And offering just one really does not help things. In our household we do language days with the kids. Honestly, we do a lot of Spanish language days because we know that it will be easier for them to deal with the aliens who wish to not learn the language. We also do dutch because so many islanders speak dutch. We feel that, here in Florida, if they know dutch and Spanish they will be able to converse with anyone, no matter what their language barrier is. But we also expect them to choose a language after those two that fit in with whatever career path they choose, should they need to do business overseas in the future. I have a very good friend who works on border patrol in south Texas. He says that the majority of the illegals that come across his border area that get caught are single males, usually smuggling drugs. He said that the border reports from other stations match his, and that a majority of the people coming in are not coming in to support their families or to make a better life for themselves, but to traffic drugs. Down here in Florida we have a lot of islanders that also come in to traffic drugs. But we get a lot of political refugees as well. I welcome the political refugees who come here and then go through the right steps to obtain citizenship.

because we are a tv society. we get most of our history and information from whatever comes across the little or big screen.

Well, as one of the people who created the cheese brigade, and one of those who was attacked during this time, i can definitely state that I am right.
-
do you see an abc with a check mark toward the right hand side? its next to some up and down arrows and a box with two a's in it.
-
In the text box that you use to put your message onto the board there is a little icon toward the top that has an ABC with a check mark. if you click on this you will be able to spell check your post before posting. you might have to download a program, but that will not take too long, then you can spell check all of your posts.

As part of the cheese brigade I can assure you that it was just a tactic to difuse the situation. We all knew that the fight was going to lead to banning and we all did not want that. So we tried hard to get the fighting to stop. unfortunately those who wanted to continue the drama got mad about the cheese and would lash out about that. I do not miss that time either sunshine. It brought out the worst in people, and it led to a lot of people feeling unwelcome.

I think that is a smart thing to do, honestly. but in certain cases it is not good. i hope that because of the severity of the childs abuse, the family is not given guardianship to the baby. it allows the parents close access in the future, which should not be allowed.

i am concerned about my child seeing both. we limit their tv time, and monitor what it is they watch. we also do not allow them to be around when Rob and I watch anything with even a little bit of violence or nudity in it. If you want to show your kids boobs, you have the right to. there are many ways to subject your children, and the rest of your family to nudity if you feel there is not enough of it on the tv. you can also subject your kids to less if you choose. i am not sure why it is an issue that we show too much or not enough of anything. if you watch over your kids and monitor what they see, then there should not be any problem.

Stop having so many damn kids; population control, anyone?

lol seems carlene and i were posting at the same time. -
LOL ok...so here are the cheese tales. There was a large feud started by a person on the boards that was very unhappy with another person on the board. The person who started it would create threads to tear this person apart and begin fights. The "Cheese brigade" would go into these threads and try to kill them by talking about cheese. Because they did not want to see the fighting continue. it was all truly a passive movement. Make cheese, not war. This fight also included the invention of the rants and raves section because the person starting threads would start them all over the board. Multiple screennames were created by the person picking the fight, and a few people joined her side and became quite venomous. All the while the cheese brigade would try hard to kill the thread. (the start of this thread was because of that fight as well) All told i believe 4 real people were banned. the person who picked the fight, two people who carried on the fight after her dismissal, and the person who was being attacked. The cheese brigade stopped their cheese throwing at that point because the fight was done. that is the history of cheese on LBT.

From Wiki In reality, having one child has been promoted as ideal and the law has been strongly enforced in urban areas, the actual implementation varies from location to location.[1] In most rural areas, families are allowed to have two children, if the first child is female, or disabled.[2] Second children are subject to birth spacing (usually 3 or 4 years). Additional children will result in large fines. The families are required to pay economic penalties, and might be denied bonuses at their workplace. Children born in oversea countries won't be counted into the policy if they don't obtain Chinese citizenship. Chinese returned from overseas can have a second child.[3] The social fostering or maintenance fee [shehui fuyang fei] sometimes called in the West a family planning fine, is collected as a multiple of either the annual disposable income of city dwellers or the annual cash income of peasants as determined each year by the local statistics office. The fine for a child born above the birth quota that year is thus a multiple of, depending upon the locality, either urban resident disposable income or peasant cash income estimated that year by the local statistics. So a fine for a child born ten years ago is based about the income estimate for the year of the child's birth and not of the current year.[4] They also have to pay for both the children to go to school and all the family's health care. Some children who are in one-child families pay less than the children in other families. The one child policy was designed from the outset to be a one generation policy.[5] The one-child policy is now enforced at the provincial level, and enforcement varies; some provinces have relaxed the restrictions. Some provinces and cities such as Beijing permit two "only child" parents to have two children. Henan province, with a population of about 100 million, does not allow this exception. Moreover, in accordance with PRC's affirmative action policies towards ethnic minorities, all non-Han ethnic groups are subjected to different rules and are usually allowed to have two children in urban areas, and three or four in rural areas; in addition, some couples simply pay a fine, or "social maintenance fee" to have more children.[6] Thus the overall fertility rate of mainland China is, in fact, closer to two children per family than to one child per family (1.8). The steepest drop in fertility occurred in the 1970s before one child per family was implemented in 1979. This is due to the fact that population policies and campaigns have been ongoing in China since the 1950s. During the 1970s, a campaign of 'One is good, two is OK and three is too many' was heavily promoted. Recently, the policy has changed because the long period of sub-replacement fertility caused population aging and negative population growth in some areas,[7] and improvements in education and the economy have caused more couples to become reluctant to have children. In April 2007 a study by the University of California Irvine, which claimed to be the first systematic study of the policy, found that it had proved "remarkably effective"[8]. It is not "against the law" to have more than one child, but you basically need to pay a fee to have more than one. The orphanages in china are filled with little girls whose families keep trying to have a boy. I think that the issue lies more in the social standing of females and the way they are percieved in china rather than the population issue. But one thing is for sure. If they keep abondoning or killing off the girls eventually the population will decline. gotta have someone to carry the babies. -

i must admit...i made a mistake. there is a "law" on the books in china. so there is a rule. it is not practiced as widely as it was in the beginning, and it is more to make life hard on those who have more than one child. I will do more research and post here. -

they don't have a rule, they simply make life hard for the people who have more than one child. and the sad part is in the early stages of this people killed off, or abandoned baby girls becasue they want a boy child. It is not a good solution. -
i doubt that the family will get the kid, but i am sure they will make a play for it. its sad when children are taken out of abusive situations, and put right back into new ones. i hope the judge in her adoption case is smart and gives the kid to a family that will treat this little girl right.
-
The kid is in foster care. More than likely the extended family will make a play to take custody of the child.

Jasmine, I hear ya. It is hard to look at the families in the countries that they are trying to escape and not suffer with them and all they go through. But at the same time it is their govts issue to deal with, not ours. If a poor family broke into a rich family's home, and squatted there because it was so hard to live on the street many would be outraged, while still have compassion for their plight. It does not mean they can stay though. Yet in America's situation, the cops are not removing this poor family from the rich family's home. Instead they are setting up the basement so they have everything they need to live, while forcing the rich family to pay for it and telling them that they will take care of it eventually. Its rough. People have hard lives. But you cannot expect those who are paying taxes and living a legal life in the US to front the bill for those who decide to cut corners and not do the right thing. Its not fair to those who work so hard to provide the life they want to for their family. As to the challenge of sponsoring a legal entrance family, we have done this three times. 2 times for families that were leaving hong kong before the change over. 1 time for a family that came in from indonesia. We were glad to support families that chose to come in legally. We are in constant contact with those families today. And they are all owning family businesses and their kids are doing great in school (all of whom learned english, not forcing others to learn their language.) We are in contact with another family from china that we will possibly be sponsoring. They are in the early stages of their application right now. We are excited to see what comes of it.

in my opinion this is NOT god's will, and for anyone to assume how a christian would feel about this is prejudice. These two should both go to jail, and if they are ever let out they should be ordered to be sterilized. I pray this baby can be strong when growing up and finds good parents to love her and care for her, and bring her up with all of the love every child deserves.
-
Well yes and no. Basically because they have to pay for all of the people doing things illegally. I have known a number of people who were legal aliens from working at microsoft. They were respectful, took the time to do it, and when they were done they said it was worth every penny and moment of their time. Those are the people I welcome into this country with open arms. If you do not have the time, or the commitment, to become naturalized, then you do not need to be here taking up the space that someone more deserving can occupy.
