What did you wish you knew before surgery?
Smooter replied to boltsgirl1012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember having a lot of doubts about the lifestyle changes. Would I be able to eat less? Would I survive without fast foods? Would I be able to make better choices? Would I ever be able to enjoy my social activities again without the fear of food? The answers were all yes, but it’s normal to worry. This was a huge decision for me. My whole life, my culture has revolved around food. But that way of life got me to a bad place physically and health-wise. The changes were necessary and honestly I wouldn’t change a thing. I have been able to get off 4 of the 5 medications I was taking pre-op and that has been worth every penny I spent and every minute of pain/discomfort I felt in recovery. Great job! I’m 11 weeks out and down 34.5 lbs. Was in a stall for about 3 weeks but the scale is moving again. HW 205 SW 193 CW 158.5 GW 130-ish -
Struggling with fatigue and lethargy
Smooter replied to AbbeySteel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the others. It’s rough at first, every physical activity made me exhausted! It passes once you are able to get more protein in, more substantive foods. I didn’t feel energetic enough to exercise until about week 6. Go easy on yourself. It’s a process and you can’t rush it. Good luck! -
Probiotics After WLS
Smooter replied to Danny Paul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never took them before surgery but my NUT and Doc recommended probiotics for regularity. So far so good. -
Unexpected Hiatal Hernia
Smooter replied to MJP820's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said I had a hiatal hernia when she first examined me, but didn’t really say much about it in relation to he surgery. However when I was wheeled into the OR I saw on the board “gastric sleeve and possible hiatal hernia repair”. She did the repair the same day of surgery. The only change in my recovery was that I couldn’t do any intense workouts for 6 weeks. I would presume that most surgeons would just fix it since it could cause you problems later. -

Diabetes and high blood pressure correction? Sleeve
Smooter replied to key12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, I was sleeved 7 weeks ago. I was also at a lower BMI (33) I was taken off my Metformin when I left the hospital after 2 days. I’ve been checking my sugars and they do seem to be staying in the normal range. I also stopped my blood pressure med within 2 weeks as it was making my really lightheaded. Ive been able to get off all but one of my meds and that will be evaluated when I get to 3 months out. I think you should touch base with your primary care physician about your BP. The fluctuations could be normal because your body is going through such changes, but it should also be improving with weight loss. Good luck! -

August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Smooter replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 8/29 so almost 7 weeks out. I’ve lost 28 pounds and am in the midst of my 2nd stall. I know they happen and I’m continuing to get my protein and water like everyone says. I’m incredibly excited though that I’ve been able to get off my meds for diabetes, high blood pressure and high triglycerides since losing this weight. That was my main goal for this surgery, so that mission has been accomplished! I’m finally getting back to exercising regularly (more than just walking) so hopefully that will help break this stall. -
I was sleeved 8/29, so I’m almost 7 weeks out and I still don’t really have an “appetite”. I eat because it’s time and to get the protein in, but I haven’t truly felt hungry or craved anything yet. I’m sure I will at some point. I do understand though not wanting to chew. After weeks of liquids and mushy food it’s hard to start getting down the real foods. My only recommendation is to go slowly at first. Small bites. Good luck!

Not buying new clothes till at goal.
Smooter replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Gwynnie Bee is a really cool service. For a reasonable monthly fee, you can essentially "rent" clothes in whatever size you are. You set up a closet, with all the choices, outfits, pants, tops, dresses, suits, whatever, and they send them to you. You wear them as long as you want (2-3 items at a time), and then send them back to get new ones. You can buy things if you really like them, but if you are gradually getting smaller, you can just keep changing the sizes. I've been doing it for a month now, and I really like the choices. It's a great way to get lots of options without wasting money on sizes you won't wear for long. -
Iron supplements suggestions ?
Smooter replied to Amy1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm taking Iron+C from a company called Celebrate. They are the chewies and are pineapple flavored. Not bad. Like a little Starburst. https://www.celebratevitamins.com/shop/individual-supplements/iron-soft-chews.html -

One week! Is this really happening?!
Smooter posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone, I am fairly new to this site but I love it, and you, for bringing out so many great topics. I've scoured the internet for information for months, read the Big Book on Gastric Sleeve, and I feel ready for this. But then again, how can I know if I'm really ready. I suppose you can only prepare mentally and physically so much and then turn yourself over to the universe. I started my pre-op diet today, which is 3 protein shakes and meat/veggies for dinner. I'm really glad it's only one week. You all that have done 2-3 weeks of pre-op are real troopers. I'm trying my best to practice all the new skills: timing my meals, not drinking for 30 minutes after, getting all my fluids. It's a lot to work on. Any suggestions on how to make this week easier? I'm trying to get in the right head space over the next few days so I don't freak out next Monday, the night before surgery! Thanks! ~S -
One week! Is this really happening?!
Smooter replied to Smooter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! Hey--you were sleeved on my birthday!! I hope things are going well for you. Thank you all for the suggestions. I am keeping myself busy, work takes my mind of eating. I'll add the broth in, that should help keep me satiated until the next shake. -
One week! Is this really happening?!
Smooter replied to Smooter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, and believe me, I am so thankful. I know it would be tough to go straight liquids, but I guess that will be my life after surgery anyway, at least for a few weeks. I'll practice the chewing for the next week! -
Hi there! I just read your post and #1 you look fantastic, and #2 thank you for being honest about the rollercoaster of emotion. I am two weeks from my surgery date with Dr. Irani. So far, all my appointments have gone well, I feel really ready for this and I know I am making the right choice. If you have any tips for post-surgery, things you wish you had known or done--please message me! I would love to hear your advice. -Sandra

Smoked weed yesterday and my surgery is friday!
Smooter replied to torriqurll's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are going to find multiple opinions on this site. If you want the right answer, you should ask your doctor. Only he/she can tell you for sure. Good luck on your surgery. -
I'm August 29th too!
