*lol* Yea, I'm partial to the EOD MOS, I can't lie. We're getting out of the Army before the end of the year, and he's going to look for a job doing it in the civilian world - they tend to come in handy. :tt2: My husband is just worried about my butt going. *lol* He said I could lose it everywher else, but leave the butt. But I agree on look like the cuddly lady thing - I like that persona in people. -

Me and my husband talked about the smaller body/guys googling issue as well. He said he doesn't really fear me doing anything - he knows I'll enjoy the attention, but who doesn't want someoen besides your husband to look you up and down? - but he doesn't want it to change who I am. He says he thinks I'll be ok because I do love the "fat girl" that I am, and that I'll still be her on the inside. Melissa -

We don't have any kiddos yet, but thats one reason for me getting the surgery done. My IIH (my cerebral fluid doesn't drain off my brain as fast as everyone elses, so it causes chronic headaches/migraines and vision loss, and in severe cases blindness) hasn't bothered me in a while, but it's still 'there', and if we want to have kids there are a lot of precautions to do. (Mainly with how much weight you can gain & meds you take) And I feel ya on the swimsuit thing! I have one right now I looove, but I only wear it around family. I have a friend who's lost 100 lbs twice (to get prego, and after baby), and I just can't bring myself to go swimming with her. It's really been the only time in my life that I've felt really ashamed of who I am. Hope to hear your success story surgery-buddy! -

:tt2: Sit & Wait - too true. I think thats what is going to get me in "trouble" the day of surgery. I'm a naturaly worrier, and then I start to panic. Heck, when I had my wisdown teeth pulled and they took me back without my husband, you should have seen the panic attack that ensued. So when I go in for my pre-op appt I'm going to ask for something before surgery to calme my nerves, or I'll hyperventilate - no lie. With this being my first surgery that I can remember (I had my tonsils/adnoids out when I was around 7, and wisown teeth under twilight sedation at 22), I'm panicking more about the surgery. I'm worrying about blood clots, dying on the table, it being botched for some reason, ect. But i'm assuming that that is pretty normal for first timers of anything. Yea, we're also going to ask for the RXs before hand becuase the wait at the base pharmacy can take hours. How lonog did your surgery take? Melissa -

I've got the support system, even though my husband loves me the way I am now, he's really excited for me to get this done. My Mom also had a gastric bypass done about 5 years ago, so we're prepared from her doing it. :tt2: I'm doing this for me, but also a bit for my husband. He wanted to ge the LB done, but the Army wont allow him to until he's out. When he came back from deployment in '05 they put him on med for his PTSD that made him gain around 120 lbs on his already 190 lb (which he fought through deployment to get down that low). So, a piece is to help him - and I don't think thats wrong, I even told it during my psyc-eval and reg dr appts. -

I think it took me this long to finally love myself for who I am, and now I'm going to change that. I can say that I am going to miss being who I am now, but I'm also looking forward to who I will be later. I think you do both. -
I'm TriCare Prime South, and overall I was suprised how fast it all went to get approved. I went to the seminar at the end of March, but their ladies who do the review and such had to have surgery so my paperwork from them didn't get processed until May. In that time I went to my psych-evals and got those done and had my first visit with the hospital. They called me June and said that they hadn't gotten the big OK from TriCare yet,but went ahead and scheduled the appt for Aug 27th. Less than a week later I got a letter from TriCare saying I was approved for one procedure with my doctor. Melissa

I've got 2 weeks for pre-op diet. Boo. When we did LA Weight Loss they had a liquid diet you had to do for a few days and I was a witch, so I can only imagine how I'll be for this after 2 weeks. *lmao* Melissa

Hi! I'm Melissa. 24. Army wife. Started the paperwork to get the lap band done. Have date with surgeon and hope Tricare will approve. Married for 4 years. Weighing at 275. 5'7"/8". Did LA Weightloss almost full year, ended up with stomach issues and quite this January. I was wondering if there were any other Army wives in here, especially from Fort Hood? Also, if there are any soldiers in any force who have happened to get it done? I'm trying to find a way to get my husband's band approved. The Army says "Heck No!", but his PTSD meds made him gain over 100 lbs in a years time, so he's topping out at 315. If anyone has any insight on that, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I didn't know Austin would be faster or I might have gone that way. I'll see if I like the doctor and staff in Temple, if not, I may change. The psych doc, was it Chupik? I'm going to that office, but I don't know which person there I'll see. Not sure what we may have to pay yet - I should find that out on the 21st. But I don't see why they wouldn't pay 100% of mine. Guess I'll wait and see. So how are you doing with yours? Liking it? I'm really nervous about the whole idea of it, but my husband is reassuring it'll be ok. I just want it done since we only have 16 months left and we're out of the Army! -

The lady who called me said that they may not pay for all of mine so I'm kinda worried now. *lol* I'm hoping they'll pay for all of it since I'm over the fat% and have other health risks. Keeping my fingers crossed. They're sending me to Temple to get mine done. -

Did TriCare pay for all of yours? They called me this week and I go in for my consult on the 21st and my psych-eval a week after that. -

Doesn't sound too bad, but I'd probably be hungry as well. When I made my psych-eval they told me it could take up to 2 hours, so for me to be prepared for that. Congrats on it all going great so far! :tt1: -

I actually grew up in Diana, which is around 12-15 miles from Gilmer, where my husband went to. Diana is a few miles from Longview. I had to find my referral papers, but they have me set up with Richard Symmonds. I'm waiting on the people to call me to set up the appt to see him. I went to the meeting on March 24th and they said it could take a while. I'm getting antsy, I just wanna know what he thinks. *lol* Which one do they have you seeing? Have you made yours psych-eval? -

LAWL didn't work for me or my husband. I only lost around 10-15 lbs and I've gained that back. The high Fiber screwed me up in the bathroom department - I would be lucky if I went once a week. So I had to be put on meds, so that was one reason we quit. I know it's worked wonders for some people, just didn't happen for us. I'm hoping TriCare doesn't keep me waiting too, too long. I'm still waiting to hear from them to set my appt with the surgeon, so who knows. Hope you have great luck with yours! -

What does the 2 week pre-op diet intel? Yea I'll be having it done in Temple. I'm still really nervous about the idea of it all. I go on the 14th for the psych-eval. How long did yours end up taking and are you happy with it? -

We strongly dislike being here - way too many people. *lol* We're from a town called Gilmer in east Tx and it's more mellow. I'm going to go to a second conference they're having and asking the surgeon if he requires the diet before the lapband and such. I've been reading on a lot of boards that some don't. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
