I'm Prime South as well and have never paid anything for any visit. S&W has psych's they like you to talk to (they give you their card at the seminar), and Tricare covered it. I didn't have to do a nutriution class though.

When I had the surgery (08-27), S&W were really good to me. I joked around with the nurses and doctors all the way until they put that mask on me. I only had one issue in recovery where I was batting at my nose because whatever was in it was bugging me - I thought it was a regular double nose breather for oxygen. The nurse got the hint and all of a sudden pulled a tube out without letting me know, hurt a little. Other than that, the were really awesome. I went in for my pre-op visit and asked Dr. Symmonds 2.5 pages worth of questions I'd typed out and he took the time to go through all of them with me to put me at ease.

Where all have you been stationed?
MrsEOD_2004 replied to armywife4life's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We still aren't impressed with Hood, and we've been here 2 years now. *lol* The only other duty station we had though was at Camp Shelby, Mississippi - and husband was there for 5 years before we came here. We liked it there though, it was pretty nice. We're both from east Texas orginally, and you would think their would be some big girls around, but, no. I've never been more self-consicious of myself until we got to Hood and I saw all these wives walking aroundwith shorts that looked like thongs. -

My husband is getting chaptered ("medically 'unfit' for duty") for PTSD and not his weight, even though he's been flagged for 3 years for it - weight gain happened when he got on his PTSD meds 3 years ago. *lol* But we did hear that when we get chaptered we get to keep Tricare for a short amount of time and ifyou get a PCM to work fast enough and get the referrals in to the proper doctors, he could possibly get the lapband done before they cut the insurance off. So that's what we're aiming to do when we finally know when we're getting out. -

Day of surgery: 275 One week post-op: 262 -
I didn't have an issue getting approved - my PCM was happy for me to get it done. I started the procedure at the end of March and got banded a week ago. I was todl the same thing about TriCare being pretty easty to get an approval through, I'm glad I decided to do it when I did.

My husband is active duty Army and tried to get the LB as well after gaining over 100 lbs because of his PTSD meds and he was denied. We were told that as soon as his chapter goes through for him to put his the LB paperwork through and try to get it done then. Until then I got the LB a week ago while we're still in. -
The other day when I was using the restroom, I leaned to wipe and I felt a 'pop' in my stomach - it didn't hurt, just took me by suprise. Has anyone else have this happen and am I ok only being a few days post-op? Melissa

To those getting banded on the 27th of August

I reported at 1030am and they took me back around noon and was home around 5pm. And I have to say that I feel like a truck ran over me. And since I'm allergic to Vicodin, they gave me Tylenol w/Codeine, so the pain isn't going away as much as I'd like. There's another 'and' in here as well, we found out that I'm allergic to the adhesive they used on me, so now I've got these God-awful raised rashes all over my abdomen, so I'm waiting for the hospital to call me back with some meds. Gaaah. *lol* But I stepped on the scale 2 days post-op and I'm down 6 lbs. I just keep thinking that I actualloy went through with this and I'm on my way to doing the right thing for my life. -

I've been doing the same thing - cleaning, cleaning, cleaning! My husband got all week off, so we've been doing laundry, bathing the dog, just anything that needed to be done so that he didnt have anything else ot worry about but me and the animals. *lol* I've been nervous this whole time... especially when I called today to find out the time of my surgery. I'm just hoping that I don't panick and back out at the last minute! *lol* -
I was wondering how bad the daily shots were? I'm terrified of needles, so I"m not really looking forward to my husband poking me in the hip for 10 days. *lol* Melissa

A pill would have been nicer instead of a shot, that's for sure! *lol*

I think I'm scared because this is my first surgery I can remember. I had my tonsils/adnoids out when I was around 7, but don't remember it - just getting to eat lots of mashed potatos and ice cream. :banghead: So this will be the first big thing I'm going into. Two weeks ago I did my pre-op stuff and went in with 2 pages of questions to ask the everyone to help ease a bit of my nerves. It took until last monday to get a 'sign' that this is what I was needing to do, so I decided then that I needed to stick with it - but if on the day of surgery I don't feel right, I will let the surgeon know and postpone it until I get a better 'vibe' - yea, I'm one of those people. *lol*
-
No, no history of clots - he said it was just to prevent clots and it's routine for all patients. I get a shot of it before going into surgery, and I'll have 10 shots of it to give myself once a day to prevent any from forming. I assumed it was normal for all lap band patients.

I'm Melissa and 25 years old. Married for 4 years to an EOD tech (Richard) in the Army, and we're stationed here at Fort Hood, Tx. We'll be getting out in the next few months and haven't decided on where we're going to plant our roots just yet. No kids - just a dog (Bocephus), and 2 cats (Jesse James & Diego) who think they are. I can remember the first time I knew I was a fat kid, my grandmother took me to a TOPS meeting with her... after that, it was all down hill for a while. When I was 16-17 and working I started taking "Ripped Fuel" and went from a 24 to a 14 in a year. Went off of it and graudually went up - then got married and got "happy-married-fat". :banghead: This past year me and my husband started LA Weight Loss - which was total BS - and it caused more harm than good. After that I decided to research the lap band and in March I went to the first seminar and it snowballed from there. My surgery is set for August 27th - one month to the day after my 25th birthday - and I can't lie, I'm scared out of my mind. I cried again today to my husband about the whole "dying on the table" issue. *lol* I'm trying to go into this with an open mind and heart. Melissa
-
I went to my pre-op appt last week, got started on my 2 week diet late, and I'm just feeling like I haven't seen the "sign" to get the surgery done. I know I'm terrified of getting this done (the whole dying on the table thing), and I've voiced that with my husband... but I can't tell if I'm just nervous since it's on the 27th and it's getting really close, or if I'm wanting to back out. Didn't know if anyone else went through the same feelings as well. Melissa
-
I got Dr. Richard Symmonds. My husband had forgotten his name, so last week at the pre-op appt he saw it and started laughing. :wink2: Who'd you have? I've wanted to back out so many times it's unreal - did you go through that phase? *lol*

I'm here at Fort Hood as well. I'm getting banded at Scott & White this month on the 27th.

We didn't realize how much we really enjoyed living in Hattiesburg until we left - now that we're about to get out of the Army, I've actually looked at houses there. :biggrin2: -
Hello fellow August banders! I've looked around the website and finally got to this section and thought I'd introduce myself. My name's Melissa, and I just turned 25 in July. My husband is in the Army and we're stationed here at Fort Hood - and thankfully we'll be getting out in the next few months and heading back to east Tx where we're both from. I'm getting banded in Temple at Scott & White by Dr. Richard Symmonds (I know, I know - the irony is just too much for a fat kid to take! *lol*) on August 27th. I've been nervouse - I'm a worrier by nature, thank God for Prozac! - from the start, and have actually put off reading all the materials until this week to not psych myself out. I have my pre-op appt this week, and a list of questions to go along with it! *lol* My mother had the gastric bypass done about 5-6 years ago (twice, first one was botched), and we still see how many problems she's had out of it, so thats why I choose the band instead. I've been a fat kid all my life, and have no issues stating, obviously. But I want to be around for any potential kids we may have in the future (for now the dog and 2 cats work great), and be able to play with them. Sorry for the chapter. Good luck to everyone who's getting banded, and congrats to those already done!

We lived in Hattiesburg for a while - husband was there 5 years, and me 2 - at Camp Shelby. We loved it there - but anything is better than Fort Hood *lol*. -
Got the surgery date - not very nervous!
MrsEOD_2004 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My names Melissa, 25, Army wife here at Fort Hood, Texas. I just got the final OK from TriCare and the surgery date is August 27th with Richard Symmonds - I know, send a fat kid to a guy named that... the irony is just too much. I've now started to get beyond nervous about the surgery (this being my first one that I can remember, I had my tonsils done when I was a lil'tike). My husband loves me being a fat girl, and pieces of me do as well, so it's a toss up emotionally on that part for hte surgery. Anyone else have this problem? Melissa -

My name's Melissa, I'm 25, no kids but a dog and 2 cats who think they are. :tt2: Husband is active duty Army, EOD, we're stationed here at Fort Hood, Tx - and the only perk is that we're only 4 hours from East Tx where we're orginally from. Husband has been in for 7 years (4 we've been married), after his 2nd and final deployment in '05 he was diagnosed with PTSD. We're now getting out of the Army before the end of this year and going back to civlian life. Got approved for the surgery at the end of June and scheduled for it to be done August 27th. Melissa
