    Calling all October sleevers!!

So to start a FB group, even a Secret group, you need to be FB friends with the person starting the group. If anyone wants to , please message me and I will get one started. You can then adjust your settings if you do not want your sleever FB friends to see all your FB stuff.

    Temptations

I am so sorry this is what it is...however you now have this wole board to rely on as support. I did not tell my Mom for similar reasons, she would say 'Oh you can just eat less, try to eat less..." etc

    halloween candy !

I did the same....skittles and sourpatch kids...I cannot have the snickers etc around. I am almost a week post-op and I am not going to mess this up...for sure. But I still feel better not having temptations around.

    Calling all October sleevers!!

I had my sleeve done, morning 10/26....now it is 10/28. I came home yesterday. Some pain, trying to walk and use incentive spiromotry, coughing is a bit hard due to sore abdomen. Not to be gross...but having loose liquid stools. I just want a few days to go by, so I feel more normal. It's not horrible, but getting a lot of belly gurgling and it is tough to take sips. ```````````````````````````````````````````````````` I wrote that yesterday and I think I forgot to post it...It is now the evening of 10/29 and I feel a lot better. I am contemplating going into work for a one hour meeting/presentation...then back home to rest Also, is anyone starting a FB page for us October sleevers? If not I'll set one up!

    Calling all October sleevers!!

Hello everyone Today is my last day of pre-op clears and protein shakes. Tomorrow at this time I will be getting ready to go into surgery. I need to drop my dog in the kennel today, go to work, pick up my kids, then later they are going to their Dad's for 4 days ( I did not want to have to be driving etc, bur I kind of wish they would be here) I will have support of my GF, but she will be working 3-12 hour night shifts, so mostly on my own. I think I will be fine, but I am sure I will be checking in here for moral support!

    Calling all October sleevers!!

My GF had the sleeve 2 days ago, on 10/19, it is day 2 and she is still hurting quite a bit. However, she is about 20 lbs down from pre-op diet and the last 2 days. Mine is next Thursday, 10/26 so I am a few days in to my "sugar-free clear liquids and 4 protein shakes a day" pre-op diet. #starving!!! But it will be all worth it. Healthy life, new chapter, no longer ruled by food. Anyone else on 10/26?

caffeine is allowed or not allowed in this pr-op shakes and clears phase? I think not....but I left my paperwork at home and I am at work, and I do not feel like calling the office....

    Stevia....yay or nay?

Thanks for all the great responses! I was watching one of the many excellent Dr Matthew Weiner videos....his opinion is Nope, don't use artificial sweetners, Put a bit of fruit into tea, or water etc, for a bit of sweetness. I think I am going to go with this mindset....I am a huge diet coke addict....I drink 2-3 per day, and i know it is crap, and makes you crave carbs, and I'll be done with it before my pre-op date and then never again with the diet coke! So, I think avoiding all of these sweetners might be my best bet.
  16. So, I am planning ahead for the mental part, that head hunger. This is where I almost wish I could start smoking again (quit 25 yrs ago, and not doing it again) However, I wish there was something else, obviously besides smoking. Is gum allowed after 1-2 months post op, or never? Also, what hobbies etc has anyone started, to fill that food-void. I am planning on getting a ton of good books, more dog-walking and exercise, using money saved on food & snacking and use it for pedicure or mani once in a while. I have a couple of games on my iphone. I guess I am just looking for other ideas, or reassurance, that the "hobby" of food will be able to be replaced by somehting healthier.

Question regarding weights, fluctuations, and qualifying

I have my appointment tomorrow, hopefully to see if they are ready to submit to insurance.....fingers crossed!!
  18. Soooo...my BMI is 40, and I dropped a bit of weight, and got weighed at a scope procedure, and it was under the 40 BMI.....My question is this, does anyone know if you need to stay over 40 to qualify ? Or do they generally go by that initial weight? For the group I am using, you need to go to several support groups, meet w the nutritionist, etc....and in 3 mos from initial appointment you can get the surgery. I am concerned about not being covered, if my wieghts show a BMI that varies from 40-30~something. Do I need to hit up Dunkin Donuts to stay fat enough for the 3 months? I have a sleep study coming up, and I am hoping I have obstructive sleep apnea, so I will be covered at a BMI of 35 and up with an added comorbidity. I'd like to not need to stay "fat enough" but I need the Insurance coverage, and I am very worried that I am too close to the "cusp" of that 40 BMI, and it is really stressing me out.....soooo...any insight and experience would help. Of course I will ask at the appointments too, but I do not want to sound like I am avoiding Nutritionist advice, in order to stay "fat enough" to be covered. Thanx!!! * This was also posted in support, but then I saw this Insurance section and figured it might be better over here :-)

New member: feeling lonely and scared

Hope your appointment went well. I am also east coast, Philly suburbs. I am pre-op, do not yet have a date, but I'm doing all the pre-op nutrition classes, etc. The first office visit was weight, height, discussion of your health, discussion of the procedure and a partial physical. Not bad a t all....hope yours went well!
  20. We see lots of people in their 50's, even 60's, returning to college, all the time. I love having "mature" folks in class, it is often a better experience than teaching the younger crew!!

Lost 40 pounds in two weeks

Do not let anyone rain on your happy weight loss parade! No one here has been elected to be the "wt loss posting police". Some of the commnets sure seemed snarky to me, and I think you handled it extremely politley. Best of luck on your continues journey and success!
  22. How old are your kids? I have told my partner (who is also having this procedure) and 2 of my kids, but not my 19 yr old...for a few reasons. I felt odd telling my 13 and 16 yr olds, but not the oldest. I will be hopefully scheduled early November. did you have your surgery yet? So my question is, how old are your kids and is it odd for you to have not told the one? I am not telling my Mom, brothers, co-workers, most friends. There are a few who I might mention it to later on down the road, maybe, but maybe not. edit---I just saw that today is your surgey date...my birthday! Good Luck!!

    Judgemental comments

This is exactly why I have only told my partner (who is also getting the sleeve) and my daughters. My Mom would be in the "just eat right and exercise" camp, and at work I do not want to be the "She lost weight...oh, well, she had the surgery...." as if it was just an easy way out. I would just try to focus on how proud you should be for valuing yourself, and making this brave move. I feel like doing this is going to prevent, possibly, diabetes, high BP, all kinds of issues. Congrats on making this choice, and try to minimize the importance of those comments. Another thing, maybe have a very frank talk, and tell them "This is a choice for me and my health, and I no longer want to hear any commentary about it. Please respect me and my decision and stop"

When will I feel strong again?!

You need to call your physician, like, now.
  25. So, I know people will have different answers to this. i am curious what different people did, or experienced with relation to diet and activity and work. I am pre-op, sleeve to be done late Oct or early Nov. I'm looking for your post-op experience, in weeks, like maybe.... week 1 liquids--felt tired but ok, not hungry Week 2 went back to work on day 9 after surgery Week 2-4 purees and liquid --craving real food but not truly hungry week 4-5---still working, but more tired than I thought I'd be.... week 5 ---started solids, 5-6 tablespoons So, if you would, please give me your simplified first 6-8-10 weeks, and what was going on for you in terms of post-op foods, work activity, hunger, feelings, whatever you'd like to share. I just get overwhelmed by the massive amount of info online, I am readin and watching videos (Dr Weiner on You tube!!!) But, I'd love to see some real-live-post-op VSG people break it down in a really basic form. Thanks!!
