    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I need to make my 1 yr appointment, I keep getting reminders. I was sleeved at the end of October....26th I think....I have lost 95-102 lbs, depending on the day ( my weight varies within a 6 lb range) I have a "normal" BMI. All of my skinny clothes are huge, I need to shop again. I am so glad I did this!!!

    Hair loss--anyt tips?

I am very happy with my progress. I am 5'10" and I am down to 179....I have lost 84 lbs in 7 months...which is pretty awesome. However, I have some hair thinning. Luckiy, I started with very overly- thick wavy/curly/somewhat frizzy hair. Now, it is thinning, and looks fairly normal, only because I had way too much hair to begin with. It is pretty dry & frizzy, mostly the ponytail and ends (I have past the shoulder lentht hair) What has anyone found that helps this? I have read that after 6 mos or so it should start to come back? I really don't think it is super noticeable, I am hoping the fact that my whole face and body have changed takes away the noticeability that I used to have full, crazy thick hair (think 1980's rocker-hair bands!) and now it is more like a regular/slightly thin look....but yeah, dry and frizzy. i really notice it when shampooing, it feels like I have hardly any hair! Any tips?

  4. This is one of the best decisions I have ever made. i am no longer a prisoner to food, my appetite, all of it. I had mine done end of October, I am now down 83 lbs. I am fiting into shorts from years ago, into dresses and shirts and everything...it is amazing. I am fitter, more energy, I am just so very glad I did this. Of course, everyone has to evaluate their own fears/choices/etc. But am I glad I did the VSG? Yes, i wish I did this 10 yrs ago. Also, people are opinionated and like to try to push it on others...this is why I did not tell my co-workers or really anyone except my kids and my partner. I didn't want to hear all the comments and opinions etc.

I am going to try to post some pics later. I have lost 79 lbs from my highest. I am 5'10" and now at 184....I look good!! My face looks a bit thin, but I'm ok with it. I was having a bit of thinning hair but not too badly...and it seems to be thickening up again. I am Soooooooo happy that I had this surgery. Like, ridiculously happy. 79 lbs gone! I am eating so much less, Mostly healthy foods, staying active. My goal is 170-175....so I am pretty close. 79 lbs gone in just a bit over 6 months!!!

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I am so impresed with everyone's progress! I have been following a lot of Dr Weiner's videos on youtube, and I am trying to think Veggie first....but veggies fill me up so fast. I am pretty happy with my progress....and.....very happy to say that for the first time in many years I am under 200 lbs! I am 198 as of today!! So total loss of 65 lbs. I had surgery at the end of October, I lost 10 lbs in the 2 pre-op weeks. My goal is 175-180 ( I am just a sliver under 5'10" tall) so i think this is a decent goal for me.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Oh, I didn't mean to lose 20-25 by March first, I meant like 2-3-4 pounds.......just getting the scale moving again. I'd like to be 195-198 by St Patty's Day, and I will absolutely allowing myself a drink that night!

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Testing to see if my ticker will show up. Also, time for true confessions: I have been dipping slighlty into a few cookies and M&M's, ever since the Superbowl (yay EAGLES !!!) and that stops today, I do not want to fall back into bad habits. It has been pretty minimal, but, still a slipperly slope. I need to refocus, and do my Proten and Veg meals, with minimal carbs. I always do my protein shake with almond milk and a bit of skim milk every morning. I need to stay the course!

    How normal is this?

You look great!! I know the feeling, I still wear some bigger clothing, at times, I feel like I still should be in them....until my Mom, my daughters and friends tell me things like: "umm, those pants are too big"..."you should think about gettting a new smaller coat'...etc. Time to shop! Congrats on your success, be Happy and Proud!!

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

You look great! ...and those baby blues, too....Keep on going, you will break through the plateau. I know the frustration. I have also lost 60 lbs. Which is great, but I need to keep on losing. One thing that I find very motiviating is that my dress pants for work are all too loose, and I am fitting into smaller sizes that were stored in a closet. Also, my scrubs are way too loose, I need to shop for some more. I was land-locked at 223-226 for a long time, now I am hovering at 201-202 forrevverrrrrr. But I am determined. I am 5'10" and my goal is 170. One day at a time. I am sporadic with exercise, I need more consistency in that area. Also, water drinking. So let's make a deal, we both exercise 5-6 days a week, and drink a sh*t tom of water daily, and check back in here on March 1, and let's see if that scale might drop a little bit.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Holy Shite....I have lost 57 lbs since my 1-week-pre-op weight (I count from there, because I dropped a bit that week of pre-op liquids, so I just count from that weight) I have an appt for follow up on Feb 6, my goal is to be under 200 for that appt, and I think I will make it to that wt. The other thing I need to do is get more exercise. Getting enough fluids can also be a challenge. But I am getting there bit by bit!! I am so very, very glad I had this procedure. My only issue (non issue really) is that I am one of those who kept this private. My kids and my partner know, no one else. I did this over a break from work and had some work-at-home days and went back fairly quickly. I never told co-workers and I do not want to tell anyone.....but I am wondering if this rapid wt loss is making it obvious that I had something done. When people ask how i lost the weight, I give a part of the truth...I am walking a lot, some light wt lifting, and I eat protein and veggies, very little fruit and no bready carbs, and I drink only water or de-caf tea. No soda, or juice etc. Smaller portions, focusing on protein and veggies. Either way, I am still just so happy I did this!

It's Ok to be pissed....I'm still pissed about my stall too!!

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I have to laugh all of us, including myself. So impatient, we are! I had a stall that lasted 2 weeks, at 223-225 lbs, now I am at a stall of 214-216 lbs. I know it is frustrating. And, like many of you I have said things like"I have only lost 40 lbs since my surgery" (although I lost 49 from my high 1 week pre-op weight) Anyhooooo......we are all nuts! This surgery is fricken'amazing ! I am not longer a prisoner to food, to a large stomach begging to be filled, to the effect of gherlin pumping out hungry impulses like the Bat-Signal.....I feel very fortunate. I am living life, and food is just fuel, not something i am stuffing my face with every 1-2 hours. When else could any of us, in the past, have complained that we "only" lost 30-35-40 lbs in basically 2 months?!? (give or take a couple weeks). We are all doing very well! My advice is to increase fluids, are you getting the needed 64 ounces a day? (I know I am guilty of rarely getting enough fluids) Are you skipping the crackers, the bread, the cereal and doing protein first then veggies? I know I try but sometimes am not perfect. If we continue to try to stick to these guidelines as best as possible, the weight will continue to drop. I know I am dying to get down to 175-185 ish.... I will honestly be thrilled just to be under 200lbs. And I will get there. Maybe not in a week, or a month, or a few months....but I will meet my goals...and so will you! Stay strong and stay positive! We are all losing a bunch of fat!! Just keep moving forward!

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I was sleeved 10/26.....I am down 48 lbs as of today! I was in a stall for a couple weeks, floating between 221-224 for days. Then , the dropping started again. I need to lose just 6 more lbs to go from Obese BMI to Overweight BMI. Then, 33 more lbs off, and I will be "Normal BMI". I am so glad I did this! I get fully pretty quick, if I eat a couple bites too much, it is an uncomfortable, achy heaviness....which reminds me why I should quit eating before getting to that point. I need to increase water/fluids, but since I cannot chug water, or drink after eating, I am finding fluids to be a challenge. I do try to sip all day.

    Weight loss depression

That is not bad for the first 2 weeks. In the beginning, I think the body needs to settle in from the operation, fluid shifting, etc. Feeling sad/depressed is something a lot of us have felt, I think the whole process is just mentally and physically draining, hormonal shifts, all that. Please know you are not alone, just keep moving forward and trust the process.

    Serious COLD FEET!!!!!

I had the sleeve, not the switch. I am 41 lbs down from my pre-op weight, and am 7 weeks out. I wish I did this years ago. I have another 40-45 to lose but here are my benefits so far: 1. Life is not ruled by food, i am no longer stopping for a snack on the road, or hitting drive thrus etc. I do not miss it at all!! 2. I am fitting into my jeans, and dress pants for work. Boots that I ordered 2 yrs ago from Zappo's sat in my closet...I could not zip them up due to my chubby calves. Well, they fit now and look great with leggings. 3. My face looks thin, sometimes I glance in the mirror and feel like, what the hell, I look like I did when I was 21! (ok, maybe not that good...but still....) 4. My knees do not hurt, I go up and down the 2 flights at work that we all frequent, from offices to classrooms. I do not use the elevator. 5. More energy, more motivation to focus on career and fitness and life goals. 6. I am getting on a flight in a few days...and I won't feel all squished in the airline seat. 7. I am saving a ton of money on groceries and restaurant bills! I no longer plan my weekends around going out to eat etc., we do other things, or I go and just have a small portion, take it home, I can eat of it for days. Things like a roasted veggies, or a can of peach slices or a can of re-fried beans sit in the fridge and I toss them before I even finish them. 8. So far, I have no issues with diabetes, hypertension, etc...mostly just my knees. Now that I am getting healthier, losing fat, I no longer wonder/worry about hypertension and diabetes. Some of my friends are dealing with these issues. So many positives, there are more, but that is a good start. However, there have been times I "miss" eating a bunch of good stuff at a party or going out. I have learned that I can have fun without using food as a crutch, as a buddy. I eat slowly, and eat a fraction of what i would have before. the whole process is really about changing your relationship with food, and how it runs your life, and your body. I am happy to say I think I am doing that. I highly recommend Dr Mathew Weiner's videos on YouTube...excellent topics and advice. I guess my question to you would be what is holding you back? What is fueling that "cold feet" feeling? I am so glad I did this, I cannot wait to hit my goal weight and really keep on enjoying and living life. Like I said, my only regret is not doing this years ago!
  18. No advice, but I am also feeling some frustration. I am 7 weeks post op, I lost 41 from mt 1-week-pre-op weight. The past 2 weeks I have fluctuated between 223-221. I am in a stall, and do not know what to do. My day is usually: protein shake soft cheese triangle and 4 crackers, 5-7 cashews and 2 baby carrots is usually my lunch, or slice of cheese slice of turkey, rolled together, and 1-2 baby carrots protein and veg of some sort for dinner water and decaf tea all day. I just started working out, classes at the gym or walking. Sorry for the Hi-jacking here! Hope you get som egood advice to get the loss going again!

    "Regret" stage

I am 7 weeks post op. I am mostly super-happy that I did this, but I do have those moments that you described. I also chose to tell a limited few (one very good friend and my 3 teenagers) so I do have support, but I really do not feel like discussing it alot, esp with my kids. Sooooo...this place comes in handy for support! Read other people's experiences, also watch Dr.Weiner's videos on Youtube, I find them very motivating. Now that it is the Holiday season, there are more opportunities where I "miss" being able to eat and enjoy eating. I made cookies with my kids last night, and had 1 cookie, a small handful of M&M's, and a few tastes as we baked.......and I was grossly stuffed. I was partly glad, because it stopped me from continued nibbling. What I ate was less than 1/4 of what I would have eaten pre-sleeve. I am VERY glad that I am not able to "go off the wagon" But there are a few times that I miss the eating. However, I am enjoying the new, slimmer me much more than the ability to over-eat and eat junk. My daily diet is very healthy, and small, (only 7 weeks post-op, so still limited volume) and I am really enjoying my loss of 41lbs (from my 1-week pre-op weight) and enjoying fitting into jeans and other clothing. Hang in there, you will get used to this way of life, I am super happy that I made this choice, the regrets are very, very few, and I hope you will feel the same very soon!

    Premier Protein

I hate the weird after-taste. I use Solgar Chocolate Whey-to-go Protein powder. My Nut approves of this brand. And it is farkin' delicious. I am 6 weeks post-op-sleeve, and I have this every morning, on my way to work and through the morning. Mixed with either skim milk or unsweetened almond milk.
  21. You look great! Great job!! Those jeans are cute too, I like the rippped look, but no gaping holes...lol

    Thanking Nurses

I've been a nurse for a million years (ok, not that many) and we did get Thank You's, here and there. A card, or even better, a letter, is nice. Food is always appreciated. Some things we got as gifts include donuts, cookies, bagels w/cream cheese & butter on the side, soft pretzels, a tray with nuts and cheese and crackers. Whatever you do for them, it will def. be appreciated.

    Sushi post sleeve?

I have a good friend, and we try to get together once every month or 2 for sushi. I like the California roll, and a few others. I am 3 & 1/2 weeks post op, so i know this is not happening any time soon. But, has anyone here tolerated/enjoyed sushi a couple months post op? Is rice ok for the sleeve ? (just rarely, not often)
