Completely over the darn scale
Tracyringo replied to AlleyKitten46's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
First your Dr. is an ass and doesnt know what he is talking about. Dont worry about him. I kept a journal and I was a slow loser too. I also lost 19lbs the first 6 weeks after surgery. Slow losers cant compare themselves to others but you can make goal sticking to the plan. I also was 48 when I had my initial surgery. Hang in there !! You can do this. -
I have the same thing going on with me. I am 4 years out 8/9 VSG and 14 months revised RNY. My relationship with food has changed. Its a chore to eat and I am not in the mood most of the time. My weight is starting to drop again. I weighed in at 148.8 this morning. So I made some mac n cheese to go with some leftover meatloaf. I was actually excited to eat, lol. Yeah, so depending on what the food is makes a lot of difference too. I didnt have this issue with VSG and I think its because I still felt normal when I ate and could still eat what I wanted just in smaller portions. My views and relationship with food in maintenance were the same pre surgery as far as what I ate. RNY not the same. I dont have the same sense of fullness as I did before I ever had surgeries or the way it did with VSG. In fact I mostly dont feel anything but if I eat one bite over I am deathly ill and the same thing goes if I eat the wrong foods. So I feel this is why I not interested and I rarely feel hungry so why bother . SIGH

Sleeve to bypass revision with arthritis

I still have GERD and take a PPI twice daily with the RNY which sucks but my esophagitis when last checked went from a grade D to a grade A which is really good. I also have no problems with keeping my weight stable. The VSG was great but I struggled in maintenance keeping it steady. My weight fluctuated a lot more and the lowest I got was 164.8 for a day, lol. I could usually maintain 175ish but was constantly stressed out. I would say I ate around 1000-1200 calories to stay in that range and under 1000 to stay in high 160s. RNY has been much easier to maintain my weight. I now weigh 154 and my weight fluctuates between 152-155. I have no problems or stress maintaining it !! This makes my daily life much easier because I dont constantly think about it anymore. I would even say I eat more now then what I did with VSG which sounds crazy but its true. I have dumping syndrome which keeps me away from heavy carbs and sugar. I do eat these things in small amounts and usually dont have any problems but I have to be very careful of when and how I am eating those things. I am less interested in food with RNY. Some days its a chore to eat ! I think this comes down to not being able to eat whatever I want when I want so if the food isnt great I really dont want to bother with it. My mind set has become totally different in regards on how I view and look at food. I am 14 months out from my revision and 4 years from my VSG. Good luck to you ! -
What’s your revision story? Was your revision as effective as your first surgery?
Tracyringo replied to Thisisgonnabegreat!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I disagree on losing less weight 2nd time around. It may be harder but if you follow the rules you will lose the weight. Example I weighed 296 day of surgery VSG I lost 14 lbs first month. I weighed 180 day of surgery RNY I lost 12 lbs first month !!!!! There is 116 lbs difference in starting weight for those 2 surgeries and yet 2 lb difference in weight loss. -
You just had surgery 3 weeks ago and you have no feeling back yet. It takes a good 6 months if not longer to heal. I know it horrible and scary not feeling anything but please measure and weigh all foods. Have you gotten sick at all after eating?

As far as weight loss goes I constantly struggled to keep myself under 175 with the sleeve and I was only eating around 1000-1200 calories a day. I lost 131 lbs with sleeve and I stuck to the plan that first year. I revised because of GERD weighing in at 180 in 5/2020 I lost an additional 28 lbs and my weight is stable for once !!!! The best part about this bypass so far is my weight is stable and I dont struggle to stay at this weight which is 13lbs less then I got with VSG. Good luck to you. -
Severe Gerd/esophogeal dysmotility. Revision vs nissen or just hernia repair?

The pink capped stuff worked wonders for me and I am still using it and have no more issues. I went through hell for 3 years before I started using it daily in my morning coffee !! -

I think your body stops losing when you hit a weight it likes. I would think you would keep losing as long as you stick to your plan. -

Good luck on your revision. I was one of those that was freaked out after having it done and having no restriction. It turns out this RNY was better for me with maintaining weight loss and I actually lost 25lbs more. Its crazy how it has all worked out and I am very happy other then I am still stuck on a PPI twice a day !!!! -

How long ago were you revised ? I lost a total of 25lbs and I thought the RNY was easier and I am able to maintain my weight without a lot of effort. I hope you find this to be true for you too !!! -

Sleeve to bypass revision with arthritis
Tracyringo replied to Frostyauggie's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have arthritis that took out both my hips in my early 40s. I have it in my back and joints too. I get steroid injections in back and neck when I absolutely have to. I cannot take pain meds except for tylenol and when its really bad I get norco. I also had the sleeve done but revised to RNY last year because I ended up with really bad GERD that gave me esophagitis D. Good luck -
I had the gastric sleeve and am disabled. I did not exercise and lost 131lbs the first year by sticking to the plan. I did however have to revise due to GERD last year.

Sleeve 2011 and just had the Roux en y bypass questions
Tracyringo replied to wendy100's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
No restriction going from VSG to RNY really bothered me for a long time and was the worst. Best thing for me was that I am a dumper since I have no restriction and this keeps me in check and its much easier to maintain weight loss. -
VSG to RNY 9 days PO
Tracyringo replied to meressa's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I lost 12lbs the first month which I thought was fantastic. I ended up losing 25lbs total and have no issues so far with controlling my weight. It was a constant struggle to keep myself at 175 with VSG and I sit between 153-156 now. Good luck ! -

Yes. I had esophagitis D.. I have bad episodes with dumping so I do have to be careful. My dumping is intense cramping in the abdomen and I cant vomit, so I usually lay down and cry for a couple of hours. It has gotten better though the episodes are not lasting as long. Very helpful deterrent for sure. I dump on sugary carbs, cereal of any kind, ice cream, or if I overeat. On occasion I will have a frozen yogurt and seem to do okay with that. I had an obsession with cupcakes and after a meal I can have a few bites. I dont do cupcakes anymore its too much of a waste. I am still on the same PPI but it works much better now and my esophagitis is an A now, so that is good. Good luck with your revision. Love to hear what ya think. -

One month tomorrow and haven’t lost a pound in three weeks
Tracyringo replied to ramirezchana's topic in Food and Nutrition
My nose ran when I was full even though I didnt feel full. Dont listen to all the stories of people losing 20lbs in the first month. This is your journey and it doesnt matter how long it takes you to get there as long as you get there !!! I only lost 14lbs that first month after VSG and heard all those same 20lbs in first month but I stuck to the plan and lost 131lbs the first year !! You can do this ! -

Well well well, its been 1 year ago today had had my revision to bypass !! I weighed in this morning at 154 !!! I still am on my dexilant 60mg for the GERD. I talk half in morning and half at night and it keeps me from burning. I dont see myself ever being able to get off of it at this point but that is okay because my last EDG showed esophagitis D down to an A. I had so much anxiety about doing this revision because I liked my sleeve so much and I missed the restriction I had with it. I wasnt sure how I would maintain my weight loss without it. Well I will tell you that the dumping has been no joke for me and I have to watch it. I also think my metabolism had to have changed and the malabsorption of calories did something also. I started at 180 the day I had the revision and lost 12lbs that first month. I lost 25lbs around 7 months which was 151lbs total and I started at 311. I have pretty much maintained without too much effort, which I never could have done with VSG. I ate around 800 calories just to stay under 170 !!! I would have gone with RNY to begin with had I known how much easier it would have been for me. Good luck to all of you on your journey !!
