    CPAP Nightmare?!?!

I got feedback today, too -- use auto-adjust for the humidity setting instead of a fixed rate -- no more condensation in the tubes. Just thought I'd share this tip if other new users are having this problem. I've made it 7+ hours for 4 days now.
  2. This is about what the orthopedist I saw recently told me, too -- he was incredibly supportive of my decision to get bariatric surgery. I have OA, so my knees/hips/lower back hurt, too. I just finished 4 weeks of PT and then I slipped and fell -- sigh. My poor knees.
  3. Just had my 7th and final nutrition appointment this morning -- 5 weeks to go!!  Paperwork goes in for approval next week.  Pre-op diet starts on Feb 27th.  Excited!!!  :D

Yeah, hear ya on the schedule being what it is! Glad there's no worries on the 2lbs. I was up 1.5lbs from Visit #5 to #7. She wasn't worried, said they expect those things. AWESOME that the approval is a slam dunk girl!!!

About the liquid diet...honestly it isn't that bad. It's more the habitual thing really. You're gonna rock it like nobody's beeswax. But I would start stepping down off the carbs soon, and also cutting back on any carbonated drinks, caffeine and alcohol. It makes Day 1 much easier to handle mentally.

      ((hugs))

Congratulations!!! You are almost there. You will have your Phoenix day soon. (That's what I call my surgery date because that was the day I reborn).

  4. I'm glad to read some positive experiences. My husband and I have been happily married for 27 years, and I just can't see surgery wrecking things.

    Calling March Sleevers

Hi, was the weight gain an issue? At my last appt with surgeon, I was up 5# from holidays (ugh), but I've almost lost it now. Still I worry that I havent actually lost weight. Still another 3+ weeks until I start the pre-op diet, where I actually get to eat food -- 1200 kcal, 60g carb, 120 g protein, 4 meals a day. For that I am thankful. OTOH, post surgery is 1 week clear liquids, then 2 weeks full liquids. So surgeon is easier on the upside and harder on the downside. Want to add, I personally am on the fence about Premier Protein -- its too thick for me.

    Dating Pre-Op?

So true, and so frustrating at the same time.

It's fun to play at the YMCA!

My husband declared he would never move from our house, so I said I want an backyard pool. Score! I can't swim in public pools anymore now that I know how to test my own water. Shiver. Ha! Everyone should have a backyard pool. ETA: just figuring out that I sound like an ass....
  12. Robin Roberts for me -- I get it, but I'd really like to know why its Fecilicia, and not, say, Amy? Or Amanda? Or Megan?
  13. Exactly. y'all. My physical therapist released me yesterday from knee/hip strengthening and recommended I get a brace for my left foot -- foot drop resulting from CMT. Sooooo, I think I'm gonna do it just so I can start walking more than a mile or so at a time. Dayum, my insurance must hate me by now, LOL. First, APAP, next Helios braces - ha! But, its for my health!!
  14. Check out this article and medical publication: "During peak training, they worked out four or five times a week for about 180 minutes in total — 30 minutes more than the minimum standard of 150 minutes per week recommended by many fitness guidelines. While 65 may represent an upper age limit for changes to heart function, consistent exercise can offer other health payoffs to older adults. A study just published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine investigated the walking habits of 139,000 Americans who were nearly 71 years old, on average, when first monitored. Thirteen years later, those who reported little to no weekly walking had died at a rate 26 percent higher than those who walked regularly, but for less than two hours a week. Those who walked two to six hours a week had a mortality rate 36 percent lower than the under-two-hour walking group." https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/wellness/middle-age-is-not-too-late-to-increase-cardiac-fitness-studies-show/2018/01/25/2708d116-faeb-11e7-ad8c-ecbb62019393_story.html?hpid=hp_weekend-chain_wellness-features1-0203%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.3e527e8df13f http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/early/2018/01/03/CIRCULATIONAHA.117.030617
  15. So who was the original Felicia?
  16. I just want to say, cancer happens to good people; nothing you did contributed to your BC.
  17. @FluffyChix Yes! Check this out (yes, I know these folks are older than us, LOL, but STILL) While 65 may represent an upper age limit for changes to heart function, consistent exercise can offer other health payoffs to older adults. Exercise tips for a beginner ?

So my pre-op orders are 150 minutes of cardio per week, 2-3x per week strength, stretching, and core stability. This may be a good place to start. There are tons of beginner free-weight plans online if you want to skip the gym. And online yoga classes, too.

Walter, I like the fish lips, LOL. Why do kids always do that??? WLS is elective, and I bet most heart surgeries are not (but I could be wrong).

    CPAP Nightmare?!?!

For those having trouble, do you have an auto adjusting APAP machine, or a fixed pressure CPAP machine? And do you have the ramping option? If you dont have these features, could be why you are having trouble. For the record, I am no expert with only one night under my belt so far, but it went pretty well. Went down from API 65.5 to 9.6. So I still have some work to do. Oh, and the heated air hit my cold bedroom and I had condensation problems until I moved the machine to the floor.

    Where does the Fat go?

OK, this is interesting! So what happens to omentum when you have a tummy tuck?

    Getting excited!

Well that is good -- the other option I was going to suggest was to reschedule to summer when he's off.
  24. Do you have ore percentages you can share? I know that I'll benefit from concrete picture of what to expect month by month.

    Getting excited!

Can't your husband take a week off FMLA? I know he's a teacher, but he can set up a plan with a substitute, right? I would do that way before I kept a teenager home from school...
