Like I have a choice!! Set points... you know, my current weight has been the "floor" for me with weight loss the few times I've tried. Glad to hear your weight is on the move again -- that must be nice for you!! My RD got back to me and had all of the same advice: water, exercise, track, carb restrictions. And be patient, sigh. If I lose a mere 1# per week, I could hit my goal by the end of the year...

OK, just signed up to get a Dexa scan and RMR test tomorrow. :-) I was looking for just the RMR test, but decided to go ahead and get a baseline Dexa at the same time. Results could be alarming, LOL.

4 weeks, sigh. I joined a gym late last week (great minds think alike...), so I have that underway now. Its always been extremely hard for me to lose weight -- my RMR must be rock-bottom low. Do you know where to get RMR tested?

Thanks for the post, Matt. Its really emotionally hard to stop losing weight for 4 weeks. There was a cruise in there where my weight fluctuated up then immediately back down. I joined a gym late last week, so its still too earlier to gauge how that is helping, but I know it was the right thing to do. My water intake...it may have dropped off, so I'll shoot for 128 starting today << that's a LOT, btw, lol, but I think I can do it. I see my RD in 2 weeks for my 3 month checkup, not sure what her advice will be.

Flying without a food net on a cruise to Bermuda and it's a challenge!! I feel so guilty leaving so much food on my plate :-( Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

How do you, personally, define a carb?
Apple203 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Once you are out of glycogen for energy, your body burns fat. When you burn fat, you produce ketones. Ta dah!! It really is that simple. This is my last post on the topic, 'cause you've issued a straw man argument suggesting I am recommending fried chicken and marshmallows. In my experience, once this happens, no logical discussions can happen. Bye! -
From Friday to Monday, the 6# went away. Thought I'd post this for other vacationers who relax a wee bit and see a gain -- its all water.

How do you, personally, define a carb?
Apple203 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
LOL, yes! I agree that your carb rich 1200 calorie diet works great at pushing you into ketosis and losing weight! YOur salad sounds fantastic. You may be surprised to learn that my favorite salad has quinoa, chickpeas and a homemade cashew-based viniagrette dressing. 2 more weeks... I wonder why the exclusion of leafy vegetables until 3 months -- do you know? -
How do you, personally, define a carb?
Apple203 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My diet is an open book, Creek. 20-40-40, 800 calories. Lean and nutritionally packed as I can get it in the limited space available in my altered stomach. If there is a god in heaven, I will be cleared for salads when I hit 3 months, because I miss them. If I ate 50-20-30, it wouldn't make a lick of difference -- I'd still go in to ketosis and burn fat. -

So... 600 calories worth, right? As I stated? -

You may politely disagree, but the facts are nevertheless the facts. If your carbs are so low that your body goes into ketosis, your diet is defacto low carb -- there isn't much room for disagreement. -

Oh, well then by all means, pardon ME, because I thought we were talking about energy balance and weight loss! -
How do you, personally, define a carb?
Apple203 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Um, wrong. CreekImp BURNS 2,400 calories a day (probably more -- that is what I burn a day at about the same weight and height, but she is able to exercise more than me). So, in terms of her caloric energy demand, her carb consumption is definitely on the low end of her energy demand. A typical person in maintenance at our weight/height would likely eat AT LEAST 1,200 calories of carbohydrates. A person eating a "fuque ton" of carbohydrates would likely be in a gaining scenario, or eating a very unhealthy, processed diet. CreekImp eats 600 calories of carbohydrates (probably). And here I thought my thermodynamics classes were a waste of time, LOL! -

No you don't. I bet you are eating less than 150 grams a day, which is waaaay less than a "normal" american diet -- and in the range of 25% of a 2,400 calorie normal diet. So, you are, in fact, a low carber!! -

I think with our restricted ability to eat a crap-ton of food, we all persist in a state of ketosis. I limited my diet to whole foods, mainly protein, veges, fruit and dairy. As much as I love bread and pasta, the nutritional payback (weighed against bulk) is sort of low (IMO). Today my carbs are from lentils, cottage cheese, mangoes, strawberries, and miscellaneous veges. Proportionally, carbs today are 20% of my calories, so I am technically a low carber!! My protein is from lentils cottage cheese, turkey, swiss cheese, and half of a PP -- and I barely cleared my goal of 60 grams. Oh, ETA, I love nuts and seeds, and regularly add them to my diet, but not today, and I feel as though they are best consumed raw as a snack (so I can enjoy them more!!!). -
Exactly! I've been using the interval timer to exercise in our pool -- love it!!

The final tally was +6 pounds, 4 of which are already gone. How shocking is that?? I was hoping to break even because calories were higher than normal, but evidently I retained significant water! I really do wonder if cruising is such a great idea for bariatric surgery people like us.

If you don't (track your food on an app like MFP) -- start doing it. Set a calorie target, set macro targets, and see what works. My pre-op diet was 1,200 kcals, 3 meals plus one snack, and I loved it. It would be useful to know what your starting weight and height were.

Let’s talk about sliming
Apple203 replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds awful, and I am thankful this has never happened to me. Does it relate to bougie size? Cause my bougie was 40, which is on the larger end of the spectrum. -
A Chicken Stir Fry Favorite
Apple203 replied to Creekimp13's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am a fan of cooking fish in foil pocket with veges -- so easy!! I always have the big bag of frozen stir fry veges from Costco, 'cause I'm lazy! -
I am following@Matt z around the board because I agree with everything he says, evidently. there is a sh**-ton of food we can eat and be within the lanes of a healthy diet. Just eat less of it. And if that doesn't work, focus on slowish carb macros. Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

Hang in there! The 2 weeks pre-op and first months are critical for your health, and then the real head games begin, cause you can but you shouldnt. Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

My story is very similar to Matt's -- my husband was reluctantly supportive. Just this week, on vaca and seeing a food number of overweight and uncomfortable people, he actually thanked me for having the guts to get the surgery. He gets niw that this surgery was for my health. It was very sweet and reaffirming, especially because I am only half way to my goal. Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app
