ESOPHAGOGASTRODUODENSCOPY ( Do others have this done two weeks before surgery??
Apple203 replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My experience was like CreekImp's -- very quick, painless, and went out to breakfast afterwards! I had mine a few months before surgery, but then my pre-op period was the full 6 months. -
Any exciting Easter plans? Any fears of chocolate bunnies and beans?

Easter dinner at my niece's house -- I have to bring mac cheese. I love that stuff, but not at 3 weeks. Is anyone else getting snowed in today? -

How Many Days/Weeks Did/Do Your Stalls Last?
Apple203 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Following... I dread the inevitable stalls. -
Tackle the water in small, steady increments, and drink 1/2 protein shakes (or half bottle of premier protein) every 4 hours. I could manage 64 oz of clear liquids in one ounce increments by day 3, but not the added hit of the protein drinks, so good luck to you! Let us know what works for you!

What a great idea!!! You'll have to have your next birthday party there -
Today is Day 8 for me, and I started protein shakes yesterday. In general, it didn't go that well: my go-to shakes didn't taste as good, and I felt overfilled the whole damn day. Today I am trying a different strategy, with smaller serving sizes, and I'm going to incorporate a PP shake split at 10 and 2 (I'm instructed to eat four meals a day). So far, so good. My first shake of the day is 50% cold decaf, 50% skim milk, and 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, over ice. And I went to MoM to get things moving last night -- that may help, too!

Hey there, was that a DEXA scan?? This is something I'm interested in doing as part of establishing my long-term goal. Still on protein shakes, so I don know what works after surgery. But I plan on starting with stuff like cottage cheese, greek yogurt, eggs, mashed beans, tuna salad, chicken salad. My material says to add protein powder to things like applesauce, mashed bananas, etc.

Good point, sigh. If I could do a week with diluted apple juice, I can do this, too.

OMG, do I agree. I am really ready to move on to mushy food but my surgeon says 2 weeks of protein shakes -- and i just started those today. How are we gonna do this?!?!?

Out With the Old--In With the New!
Apple203 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That was a fairly epic rant this mroning, Fluffy! But seriously, I fear the stall after reading your post, 'cause it'll happen to me, too. Now have you checked your measurements? -
I had the same thing! When I started fluids, I literally set up a timer on my phone and had one ounce every 15 minutes. The next day, I had one ounce every 12 minutes. The next day, it was 2 ounces every 24 minutes. Now its 2 ounces every 20 minutes -- which is perfect for timing four 16-ounce bottles of fluids in-between four protein drinks, with 30 minute rest periods before and after the protein drinks. It sounds a little crazy when I type it out, but it works.

Day 8 -- protein shakes and vitamins start. Holy cow, I made my favorite shake pre-op and just couldn't handle it after a week of diluted apple juice. So I dumped it and made a nice mild shake (vanilla with a mandarin orange) and I am sip-sip-sipping :-) Who knew I'd be excited about a protein shake? Perspective is everything. ETA: after about 5-6 ounces, I'm stopping because I feel...satisfied. Is this the same as full?? I need to keep learning about my new tummy. On a negative note, I have a minor rash around my incisions, and my surgeon said to start working the tape off.

I have the same, but I haven't gone yet. My first meeting is tomorrow night. :-) If I came off glib, I apologize -- it may be my crankiness at play today. I am a huge fan of professional therapy. -

If you eat a pint 1/2 cup is 60, 1/4 cup is 30. -

Who didn’t/doesn’t have to do 2 weeks liquid?
Apple203 replied to canari's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maryland here: pre-op was two weeks of lean protein, veges, and 3 fruits/yogurts per day. -
I'm Week 1 with clear liquids (50% diluted 100% juice x 64 ounces) and I am getting about 400 kcals per day.

Following surgery 6 days ago, I've had some interesting apnea results: 90% pressure has dropped in half (from 16-20 to 10), and AHI has dropped from the upper teens to 1-3. ????? This isn't from losing weight or pain meds (stopped those on day 3), but could repairing a medium-large hiatal hernia cause this effect?

With linked studies: the evidence suggests that freezing can preserve nutrient value, and that the nutritional content of fresh and frozen produce is similar (2, 7, 11). -

Thanks for mansplaining without providing any actual evidence. You were making a point about frozen foods losing fiber benefits in the post I responded to -- not juicing, which can remove fiber.
