  1. My husband had his sleeve done in September. And was still in a lot of pain a week out. And yes drinking made his stomach hurt. Try different temps for the liquids. We found that cold hurt less. I had bypass in July and I couldn't and still can't have cold, i have to have room temp or start to hurt. Once you finally get all the gas out and the swelling goes down, you will start to feel better. This stage you are in is what my surgeon calls "swell hell" it does get better. This is just a bump, in the road. Warm showers also help get that gas moving and help reduce swelling some. Hugs...remember that pillow is your friend use it.

  2. I was going to lose my secondary, which was caresource, and the financial people at cleveland told me to use anthem that they cover it. I just have Medicare and regular Medicaid and mine was 100% covered. Also Cleveland clinic bought into Akron General, however they don't own Akron General, they basically have management say and that's it. So really research your doctor. You see I live in Barberton and the Dr at Akron requires and addition 3500 after the insurances paid. That's above and beyond what the insurance will pay she said and it's for fees. I was thinking I don't think so, it's also in writing. So it's been 3 years since I looked at Akron. I decided to go by Dr ratings and complication rates, and decided in March of 2017 to go with Cleveland Clinic Main campus. Remember just because the they have Cleveland clinic in their name dosent mean they have the same drs from main campus. My Dr is the director of the metabolic institute at cleveland and none of his staff travels to Akron. So really really do your homework as that can make a difference with coverage for you as well as it is imperative for your health.

  3. Medicare dosent require comorbs. I just had my bypass done on July 20th. And I also had Medicaid as a back up. Medicare pays for it all without any diet or anything. I was on the operating table 30 days after final Dr approval. Make sure you use a Medicare center for excellence and it's done. As long as it is a sleeve or bypass. And you meet just the bmi. If the Dr has it is medically necessary then it's paid. I had mine done at cleveland clinic. And my husband is having his done September 7th. Like I said no hoops to jump. Nothing. Medicare dosent have a requirement for diet or anything. You can also read that on medicare.gov

  4. OMG...same happened to me.
I was prior approved by insurance to get my band removed and now my insurance is saying they won't pay.
I sent in an appeal and they denied it again. $18,000. I have a message into my surgeon and my primary care clinic.
I am scheduled for RNY bypass surgery on July 10 and supposedly approved for that also. We will see!

They approve bypass revision but unless there is a complication with the band won't take it out. Insurance companies are stupid some times. They paid 47000 for mine. Double what private pay pays. Talk about abuse of the system.

  5. You're absolutely right I have a relative at the moment still in the hospital working on I believe it's 8 months now I'm losing track it's been so long. He had several leaks lost half a lung because of the leaks, has a fistula as well. This is a second attempt to fix the fistula right now that he has stitches and another which is also leaking. They're speaking about a feeding tube at this point if it doesn't heal up. It has been a complete nightmare and it has inspired me to search and look around more into this procedure of all kinds. Since I have I have found more horror stories then I found good stories. And what's weird about that is if you look at the statistics and you look online you don't hear about those stories. How are they hiding those stories and why. The only reason I post here is the hopefully help somebody else from making bad choice. There is a chance it could go well but what I have learned from my researches it's a 50-50 chance total different thing than what you're told online are on videos when your research it. Nutrition is the biggest issue with a surgery is people are so weak they don't want to live. Beware that's the only reason I'm posting if you have a good surgery good for you do not respond to me and tell me you did because I really don't care. What I care about is the people that didn't have it go well and how their suffering deeply and their families are suffering deeply it is affected there life and more than one way financially independently and their happiness if not their life. I think they need to do more research on this surgery before they do any more because they're not able to fix the problems and many cases. This is a voice type so do the best you can

My brother was a bad outcome. But I am post o.p 14 days and doing ok. It has a ton to do with the Dr you chose and the expertise they have as well as the prior medical issues. My brother and I did 2 different hospitals. 2 different out comes. Yes I was and still am terrified I messed up. But time will tell.

  6. Do you find that one day a food is okay and then the next day it makes you very sick? That's been my problem. I've been getting in my Protein and liquids okay but almost all food tastes sour to me. I am three weeks out from surgery...

I am already doing that at 2 weeks out. A friend of mine told me that during chemo, she lost taste as well. She said she played up the taste that she did like. Such as sour, she did a lot of things that were sour. If it was bitter she also did those. Just becarful, don't want ulcers from the acid. Hope that helps.

  7. Hi, I'm a week out from surgery and confused as hell! If anyone is able to help me and lead me in the right direction I'd be eternally grateful
I had my surgery in Belgium and live in the U.K. So I'm finding it hard to navigate when/what/how regarding intake and was never given any advice about daily Protein targets...
Any advice or support very welcome!
    Thx

Here is another page. I hope this helps. 1501746731210.jpeg 1501746780243.jpeg 1501746901305.jpeg

Oh my goodness. I had my bypass done on the 20th of July. I am 2 weeks out as of today. I went to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and had mine done. I can share with you what I have been shown. My Dr still has me on a full liquid diet. Your body needs time to heal. So let it rest and heal. Don't lift more then 5 lbs. The inside will take lo her to heal then the outside. Protein target should be a minimum of 60 grams and Fluid total including Protein Shakes, Water down Apple juice, or sugar free frozen ice, should be 64 ounces, (8 glasses) dehydration is the main reason people are re-admitted. Also by now you should be chewing 2 children's Vitamins. Iron supplement and Calcium.
