2-3 weeks out, beginning soft solids

I was sleeved on the 14th of July. I've been able to eat like cooked salmon, scrambled eggs, boiled chicken, refried beans, string cheese, greek yogurt, meatballs and really soft stuff. I have noticed that my stomach can't tolerate sharp cheddar cheese because anytime I have put that on beans or eggs to melt...i get a pain in my stomach...Also, I need to remember to slow down and take smaller bites because when I don't, I get these painful cramping things in my stomach...its like a few stabbing pains like my stomach letting me know it didnt like it and then it goes away a minute or two after. I am not drinking nearly enough liquids as I should and not getting enough protein in. I've been at a stall for a week and ahalf. I need to be better about my liquids and protein and walk more.

    Sleeve and Hernia repair

I had the sleeve and hernia repair at the same time. I'm 3 weeks post op and still have a little pain...it's like a slight pulling sensation in my left quadrant of my abdomen and near my bellybutton too. I'm just assuming the surgery takes some time to heal - I've read some people said it took 9 weeks for the pain to fully go away and feel normal again. We'll see. Before surgery my GERD was terrible. Even if I wasn't eating anything, I would have heartburn and feel nauseous and short of breath. I have not had a day of heartburn since surgery. I feel so lucky because it was painful prior to surgery. Some people don't get lucky with this and their heartburn /GERD continues or gets worse though. I'm following the diet plan the doctor gave me (regular diet all VSG patients have hernia repair or not).

    Can I eat this?

OMG I thought that blanket was a very hairy leg lmao. Scared me for a second.
  4. When I woke up from the operating table, the anesthesiologist and I were really cool with each other before surgery but I was so loopy I guess my chest was exposed when they sat me up and she goes cover her up and close the door so guys passing by don't see and I was high from the meds and said "I mean I know I have nice boobs but what she said!" and the people in the O.R. were laughing...lol my experience of being naked on the table.

    Terrified

Soooo if I'm being completely honest here...my surgeon's office wanted their patients to do a week liquid diet pre-op. Then the night before drink 2 bottles of magnesium citrate and do an enema. The reason they want patients to do a liquid diet for a week prior to surgery is to shrink the fat around the liver to make surgery more safe. I did not do the liquid diet for the whole week. I figured "i'm not that big maybe that's just for patients who are super at risk on the table" so I did not do it...I only did the laxative drinks and enema the day before surgery. By doing this, I lost 7 lbs the night before surgery. However, if I could go back in time, I would do it the correct way. I put myself in danger with that stupid mentality. I do not promote this kind of behavior at all. I was really bad and should have done what was advised.

4.5 months Post Op.... 6lbs from "Goal Weight"

I feel like where we started was pretty close. Any advice? What did your diet look like and what exercise did you do? I'm in week 4 but at a huge stall but so curious to see how people achieved their goal so quickly. Would love to knoww

Yeah, I can't go to the bathroom. I'm the same way. I need to buy benefiber or something lol. It doesn't stress me out but maybe it's not helping my weight loss, The struggle is real. lol Does the stool softner work? I've never tried it...

    New around here

Hi Jasmine, I'm 25. From Los Angeles. Had surgery 7/14/17. I've lost 17 lbs since day of surgery...24 lbs since day before surgery (did a cleanse instructed by my doc and dropped 7 lbs). I'm losing slowly but I would have never lost 24 lbs before surgery so I'm grateful! At a stall right now but I'm just being patient.

    Terrified

This is totally normal. Before my surgery, I was binging hard at every fast food place because I thought...f**k i'm not gonna be able to eat this stuff ever again...I gained a few lbs before surgery and felt like **** about myself. After the surgery, I cried to my boyfriend about feeling regret. I felt so depressed that him and my family got to eat whatever they wanted and I was on a liquid diet. Even now, I can't eat the things I used to and after a few bites...I'm already full. But you know what? I don't really regret this surgery anymore. We CANNOT let food dictate our whole life or be what we surround our lives around. We gotta find hobbies and things that effect us positively! I had this surgery because I hated myself. I was miserable. I developed social anxiety and had the lowest self esteem. I ruined my body. I was disgusted with myself everytime I saw a picture of msyelf or looked in the mirror before the shower. Why would you want to allow food to do this to you or want to allow it to continue to do this to you? You need to build the will power now...preop so that it can help you have an easier journey post op. TRUST ME. I did not do that and maybe the liquid diet would have been easier for me post op. I'm 3 weeks post op and still struggle and feel tempted to try certain things but I say NO because that's a slippery and scary slope that I do not want to get myself into again. I'd rather stay away from it then get that one taste that makes me lose control and I binge again or I stop caring. I did this surgery for a reason. It has not been easy but I am sticking with it and hoping for the best outcome possible.

Going back to work Post Op

I had my surgery July 14th and 11 days later I went back to work on the 25th...I was not ready. My energy level was so low, I was still sore...I knew I needed more time. So I went back to work on the 31st of July. I returned to work after 2 weeks. Some people return to work after 1 and some literally take a whole month sometimes even 6 weeks off... The way I look at it, everyone is different. I really didn't have the vacation time to take more than 2 weeks off anyways, but I really think 2 weeks was good enough. I work in HR and sit at a desk mostly. I think it was good for me to go back to work after 2 weeks because it helped me with trying to maintain work and getting back into the groove of everything and pushing myself a little rather than laying in bed all day at home. It also helps you adjust to learning to get your liquids in during work hours! Not the easiest but I'm adjusting!
  13. lol i'm laughing because the same exact thing happened to me and I can relate....I didn't collapse but I threw it back up immediately. I was crying and throwing a tantrum like a kid because I didn't want to drink it lol. It was bad. I will never forget the smell and taste of that and how thick it was! Thinking about it makes me cringe. It was the worst. With all the advancements in the medical world, you figured they would be able to make the contrast better lmao.
  14. OMG I cried. I smelled it and saw how freaking thick it was and like begged them and cried like a little kid "no I can't do it". I took one sip and got goosebumps and gagged and cried again saying no no no I can't do it. They told me they cant discharge me without this and told me to chug it like a shot. I can't even do shots at a bar! It tasted like soap and a bitter drink....I chugged it, they got what they needed and I threw it right back up in the cup....never had anything so gross in my life. One of the worst experiences of the whole thing. Also, I had to pee constantly because of the IV fluids and felt annoying as hell for having to call a nurse in every 45 minutes to unhook me from everything lol.
  15. What is underneath the cheese and sauce? Be as graphic as possible. *mouth watering* lol

    Splitting Headache

I've been on the liquid diet for 3 weeks now...I have only had a headache once and that was when I hadn't drank anything in a few hours...as soon as I filled myself back up with fluids I felt better. Maybe if you were a caffeine addict before you are having withdraws. I was a soda addict prior to surgery but have not experienced headaches...everyone is different though. Hope things get better for you!

    GERD

I had GERD prior to surgery. Literally, heartburn all the time. When I did my endoscopy, they told me I had ulcers and a hiatal hernia. I had it repaired during surgery and even though I'm only 3 weeks post op....I have not had ANY heart burn or nausea (from the heartburn and stuff) like I did prior to surgery. So it may affect people differently...all I know is...I feel like i'm cured of GERD. lol

    Wtf man lol

So I had surgery July 14th, 2017 and I was 228 lbs at my heaviest and a day before surgery with the cleanse I got down to 221 the next day (surgery day)....crazy. lol Today I am 206...I've been 205-206 for like a week now...Per my doctor, I'm on a liquid diet for a whole month so I have another 11 days...I"m dying lol...I drink as much water and liquids as I can, get protein in and stuff but for some reason...this stall isn't breaking. Like hellooo I'm not eating, you figured I'd be losing weight right? lol My question is --- did this happen to you all post surgery and what did you do to break a stall and when did you start seeing the scale move down again? I miss food. I miss being able to eat with my boyfriend and family. I see everyone talking about their weight loss and just at a loss for why my progress came to a halting stop right now. I get everyone's bodies are different and we are all at different places in our journey I just don't know when this will change. I've been thinking to myself --- if i'm not even losing weight on this liquid diet, how will I lose weight when I actually start eating food? Talk to me people! lol
  19. Hi there! So I really think that we all get scared of changes that could happen and how it will affect our lives. I think that you have come sooooo freaking far, and way too far to revert back. You look so amazing and you're truly an inspiration. I think now what you have to focus on is self love and you obviously went to inquire about plastics because you want to feel more comfortable in the new body you are coming into and that is absolutely 100% acceptable. I know it's scary to adapt to a person you've never seen looking back at you in the mirror but if you think your thighs are a problem area to you and you think plastics would make you feel better about yourself, then reach your goal! Don't stop! I've been insecure my whole life...and in high school I had a teacher tell me "Every day you wake up, look in the mirror, and give yourself a compliment...say one thing you like about yourself". I never did it. I realize now that I have hardly any self love...so even if I lose all the weight, I'm still going to find something about my body that is wrong, that I don't like. I'm now learning, compliment myself, feel good about myself, love the body I'm in, stretch marks, cellulite and saggy skin because I'm not going to get a new body...if I can't love myself, how can I be happy? And I have so many fears about not being able to indulge the way I used to, how I will look after the weight loss, still being disgusted by who I see in the mirror, and sooo much more...but we gotta just stay hopeful and start to love ourselves and have more faith in ourselves! Don't look back at the girl you used to be, look at who you are today, and who you want to be in the future. Keep moving forward! <3

    Endurance sports post surgery?

I was advised to not do any real workouts until after the first month...just walk, walk, walk. I struggle to get in 40 oz of fluids in a day and Friday makes 3 weeks post op for me. Sounds a bit early if you're trying to do these things with your hubby any time soon post op. You should consult your doctor on this though. I would just be paranoid of causing damage to my healing body and get a leak or pass out from dehydration.

    Help getting the fluids down?!

Have you tried different temperatures to? Some people react to cold and room temp differently. Some people prefer super cold and some people prefer room temp. Also, have you tried adding crystal light to your water? Maybe try vitamin water zero? I'm in my 3rd week post op and my doctor has me on a liquid diet the first month. I mentioned at my one week appointment that I felt like I wasn't getting enough protein and he said don't worry about the protein for right now, just focus on staying HYDRATED. The last thing you want to do is end up going to the hospital because of dehydration. Every couple of minutes, take a small sip. I've been drinking water with strawberry lemonade crystal light drops in it, vitamin water zero and diet snapple. I put it in a small 8 oz water bottle because it's easier to drink out of and I don't feel overwhelmed or psych myself out that I won't be able to finish the bottle it initially comes in. Hope this helps you!

    Protein shake recommendations

I ordered these protein shakes on amazon and the company is Atkins and the chocolate ones are really good and haven't caused me to have a stomach ache. 15 g of protein and 1 g of sugar in each one.

    3 weeks post op

This Friday makes three weeks post op for me. I've lost 16 lbs since surgery. A day before surgery I Lost 7 lbs so total i've lost 23...but really only 16 lbs since surgery. But I just think to myself there's no way I would've had the will power to lose that before the surgery. We have to remember that this isn't magic. It takes time, hard work and dedication. Slowly but surely we will lose the weight.

    Scales

I have one from weight watchers...I weighed myself and it was accurate to the scale at the doctor's office a couple hours after I weighed myself at home. I've had it for a couple years and it's accurate and great.
