  1. Hi All, My partner is the only one that knows I am going through with surgery. I'm happy with this as it's my business and my family can be judgmental and will say this is unnecessary/ extreme when I should just 'lose weight on my own'. I've been looking on the forums for a while, so I thought I'd make an account as I have questions and things I want to talk about. I am due to be sleeved in Perth in late October this year. I am currently sitting around the high 90kgs mark and am looking to lose 30kgs. Anyone else out there like me? [emoji4]

    Perth Sleevies?

Oh wow that sounds fantastic! 🤩So glad your recovery went well. Things were a bit hit and miss for me but I’m glad I kept pushing on. I had issues with medications, water intake then pace once I was on the food plan after liquid phase...I had a lot of vomiting but I’m getting better now! [emoji846] My Dietician has me lots of helpful tips and advice. I’m over the one month (5weeks) post op mark and down 12kg and now focusing on my protein intake and upping exercise! Looking forward to the next 17-18kg coming off and toning up (feeling a tad wobbling haha). All the specialists I’ve seen have been really great. I also started seeing a Psych a few months before o started my journey and that combined with the physical improvements... I’m feeling good! Time is flying past! Not long until I look back and I’m a year post op! [emoji33][emoji847]

    So. Much. Water!

My Dietician set a 1-2L (33-67oz) expectation daily with 500mL (17oz) of that being nutritional supplement like a protein shake or something. I’m finding it difficult being 4 days Post Op to even get 200mL (7oz) in! First few days I’d legit vomit if I had more than 30ml which is like a little medicine cup! I just feel so disgustingly full and I’m someone who use to be able to drink bottles and bottles of water. It’s super frustrating cause I know I’m dehydrated (breath gets bad, tongue gets coated and I have a gross taste in my mouth and lips get cracked). I’m hoping this is post op swelling and a week from now I’ll be hitting this no worries. Anyone else find in the early stages it was really tricky???
  4. Wow in Australia they want you to do 12-14 days on 2 Optifast shakes with water, 2 cups of allowed veggies and 1 palm size portion of lean protein (or two eggs). No diary, no sugar, nothing sweet and 1 coffee if you must. I was extremely strict and had stir fry’s every night, shake at breakfast and shake at lunch and snacked on veggies and peppermint tea during the day. I actually enjoyed the diet. Now Post Op, I’m struggling a bit trying to just get water and mini cups of apple juice down. Was sleeved on 31st Oct and vomited all night once I got out of the hospital. Very hit and miss with some of the recommendations (like Hydrolite icy poles - don’t think my body likes those at the moment). How’s everyone feeling about their upcoming surgery? I’m so excited to get past this swelling and ugh phase so I can start some small portioned thicker liquids like blended soups and positron shakes next week.

    Post op pain.

I’ve been home about three hours and am in a significant discomfort. Post Op has not been a breeze for me at all. Gas pains mostly collected under my breasts and in the left shoulder. Walking certainly helps and eases heartburn too. I have very little desire to drink as well. Taking Panadol tablets is really hard cause I feel so full I’m scared to vomit. I was lucky I haven’t had to vomit in the hospital but fear I may need to now at home. Sitting and laying down is pretty uncomfortable. Haven’t found a great way around either especially when I just want to sleep the pain away haha. How are you going??
  7. I brought: -Comfy clothes to go in and go home in -iPad loaded with shows -iPhone/ iPod with podcasts on it -Chargers (and a power bank) -Interesting Book -Journal and pen -Eye mask -Paw Paw cream for my chapped lips -Noise cancelling headphones -Slippers -Breath spray -Deodorant -Air freshener -Couple pairs of fresh undies -Soft bra with no underwire -Folder for all my documents (forms etc). Hope this helps!!! [emoji933][emoji161]
  8. I would have to agree. Get it in writing. I was told 1 palm size portion of protein (or two eggs) with one of the meals, loads of the allowed veggies and 2 Optifast shakes. That’s what I did - strict, VLCD for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I was only hungry some of the time but actually ended up enjoying the structure. Miss it now being 3 days Post Op and would give anything for a shake and to not feel like I’ve just entered a pie eating contest and feel so full and bloated I could puke (just from small sips of water).
  9. I’m 3 days post op, not reacting well to meds at all and feel so drained and awful but I keep looking at the positives about how I’m going to feel next week, then the week after once I watch this weight come off and know it’s not going back on cause I’m in a happy relationship. Gotta keep reminding yourself that there will always be struggles along the road but every single little story I’ve read of people having, even the most complicated recoveries, still would not go back and not do it all over again! That has to be a comfort!!! Hope everybody is going ok!
  10. I know that feeling! First day out after sleeve I could barely keep my eyes open. Anesthesia got me good! Hang on in there girl. You’ll get through it!

    Perth Sleevers?

How did you end up going? Did you end up booking in/ seeing anyone? In response to your other questions - Optifast was actually great (bar the first day when I had left overs from my “last meal” and wanted them but committed to the diet). I didn’t even have coffee w/ milk or anything. Straight veg and protein and now being 3 days post op - I’d happily have a stir fry instead of 30ml of apple juice and wanting to chuck up haha. I used my private health but still paid a pretty hefty OOP as well as expected hospital costs once I get sent my discharge account statement. But it will all be worth it. Wasn’t a package as much as going in through who you get referred to and being open and willing to pay the psych/Dietician/ blood tests/ gap/ hospital fees and meds post discharge I guess. In the long run though it saves money. I’ve hardly spent any money on groceries and will be pretty minimal once I’m having solids in a couple weeks. Always a bright side!! Hope to hear from you and provide any help I can!

Oh wow, that’s great effort! 30kg will be fantastic! Did you have a period immediately after surgery where you were feeling a bit off and then it picked up for you? I know a few weeks-month from now I’m going to be feeling great (that’s what’s keeping me going!)

    Perth Sleevers?

Oh that’s good to hear!! Did you just have yours done recently too? I was so nervous on the day - but now I’m glad and I know I’ll be so much happier once I get use to things but the last few days have been very rough for me. Pain killers haven’t worked well and getting the drain out yesterday was an experience. Keeping Panadol down is going to be hard when it feels like at every moment I’ve never been so stuffed in my life (and I’ve had a max of 100ml). It’s crazy! Once the swelling goes down things will get more manageable. Have you had anything like this? So happy you’re feeling positive! I’m keeping my chin up for sure!

    Perth Sleevers?

How’s everyone going? I’ve had my surgery and am 3 days post op. Feeling pretty rough but am home and hoping the pain eases off soon. Anyone else in a similar boat?
  15. I think it just makes you want to vomit. I know my Dietician told me anything with bubbles (alch/ mineral water/ sodas diet or otherwise) with gasses will jeopardize the sleeve and stretch it in time. So I guess following the advice of going slow and cutting out bubbles would be what I would recommend!
  16. Woah!!! Look at you go MS1776! Looking like a new man! Well done and good luck on the rest of your journey. Fantastic efforts for 15 days! [emoji1316]
  17. Mine was today at that same time as well! I was first on the docket at my hospital! Can’t believe after months of waiting and anticipating; it’s over now! Good luck! [emoji56]

    Anyone from Australia

Any Aussies getting sleeved this month?
  21. Yup I have these thoughts! I use to be pretty average 70kg (150-160 lbs) most of my adult life but in the last 18months have gone up to 90+ (210 lbs) and it's from the psychological connection I have with eating so I know this surgery will stop all this binge eating/ fasting/ disordered eating. I know if I tried I could lose this weight again on my own, however I am so tired of my psychological state impacting my weight loss/ gain. If I'm in a toxic, abusive relationship I am at my lowest weights, then when I'm happy, I pile on the weight. This surgery will just level this out so I can be happy in my relationship (current one is great) and no longer feel self conscious in myself. Actually enjoy the rest of my 20s. This is what is pushing me through! I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one having cold feet!!
  22. Really needed to see this! Thank you [emoji5]

    Perth Sleevies?

Oh that's how I'm feeling - wanting this to be the thing that ties it all together and stops the yo-yoing. When are you booked in for? Mines pretty soon (pre-op diet starts this weekend) all happening so fast!! [emoji33] Good luck to you too! [emoji1303]

    Perth Sleevies?

That's such great news! [emoji1305] My surgery is in 12 days and I've been so nervous. Had my Dietician consult today and I start my pre op diet on Saturday (last meal will be Friday night and then goodbye to Vietnamese for a while!) My concern has been constipation for sure too, Dietician said a stool softener is the way to go and I'll be using that for sure. 12kg is a great feat! Well done [emoji1319]
