"Really, you have that much to lose?"

A girl at work told me yesterday that the 20 pounds she wants to loose is just as hard as the weight I want to loose (225 pounds). Right. (I wanted to say...) Because when you loose that 20 pounds then you are done, but 20 pounds off my 225 means I still have 205 pounds to loose. Right.
  2. Congrats on every thing going great!!! and making this change!!! I have really severe sleep apnea (AHI was 110) but dr hasn't said anything about having to spend the night. (Not having to stay is why I decided lap band vs gastric, with 2 little kids...)
  3. Lena- Thanks for the reply! I know it's the little goals that end up making the big one come true! I have been walking off and on at the mall since it is to cold to walk outside most days, especially with a 2 year old. He does pretty good walking but he also has therapies and other "school" like things (he has autistic like characteristics) that we have to do during the week so that makes it hard to get the walking in everyday...I know excuses. I am really trying to find something that works because I know I will have to after surgery. How did your surgery go? Are you still on liquids?
  4. Looking back at my post, not hungry wasn't the right words to convey what I meant. Thanks for those words of advice, that pretty much sums up everything lap band is about, imo. That's also where I get really scared. I have been trying to loose weight for 20 years and haven't been able to do it, so why is the lap band going to change it when I can eat around it too? I feel there is more support (follow ups with the dr) and it is a tool to control hunger. Somedays the mountain top feels so unreachable that I wonder why bother, but that is what got me to almost 400 pounds in the first place. I need to do this one way or the other for me, for my boys so they have a mom and for my husband so he has a wife. Thanks again for the reply.
  5. I just completed first month of Dr weight check. have 2 to go. I only lost 4 pounds for January and am hoping that I can stick to it better for the next 2 months. It just seems like I have sooo much to loose (225 pounds) and I just can't stick with it. The dr asked me today if I thought I could with the band and I said I hope so...I won't be hungry so that should solve the problem...

"Really, you have that much to lose?"

I totally agree and know what you mean. I work at a hospital and will be getting report on a patient and the person will say "she's huge, like 300 or more" and I'm thinking, I weigh almost 400, what do you think I am?

Not suitable for LAP Banding? :(

I'm 5'9" and 383. At my inital consult my dr said he wanted me to weigh in with my family dr for 3 months than come back. He said some drs would push for gastric bypass but that he would say that lap band was good given my age (32) and I don't want gastirc bypass (would love the immediate weight loss bus thats about it). Maybe try to get your BMI at a more acceptable level for the dr (I know easier said than done, I KNOW!!) GOOD LUCK!!

    It can be done!

Thank you SOOOO much for that motivation. I still go back and forth on weather to do it or not, I know it is what I need to do, just being stubborn. I am 383 now and it is getting worse...I have got to do something. It will be a while till I can get lap band though, due to insurance approval etc... THANK YOU!! Keep us updated please!

    100 lbs.!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing and for being an inspiration. I am kinda on the fence, leaning more towards doing it esp. after reading your sucess and knowing that it is possible!! I have 200 plus to loose, so the road seems really long.

    EKG Help!!!

Machines may be different as far as placement (I thought it was all the same but you never know...) Here is a link to a website that had a picture of placement ( I googled it) CompuMed, Inc.
  11. I would send the appeal. Good luck and hang in there.
  12. I told my mom I was thinking about it last night and have my initial consult tomarrow, she said not to let them talk me into it. WTF? She obviously wasn't listening when I told her everything involved in getting to surgery. I am pretty sure that I'm going to do it just a long ways off from surgery. She (and my dad) could use to do lap band too!! My friends I have told are supportive, the overweight ones are thinking about getting banded too.
  13. I agree, it takes a different way of thinking. Can't keep doing the same thing that got us this way...I will keep the quality vs. quanity in mind, that is a better way of thinking.

    New way of thinking

So I got my head in the game today...the statistics have been bothering me, not that I put much stock in any stats but when they say that only so many people loose all of their weight, or that at x amout of time, 50% of people of gained back x amount of weight...it starts to make you think that this really isn't going to work. Today, as I was thinking about that and if it is the right thing to do, and how fat I am and all that garbage, it dawned on me that those are JUST STATS, and it doesn't have to be me and that I really do want to do this because it does work and I dooooo really need help loosing weight. One problem (well many...) that I need to overcome and it is part of eating better anyway so...I drink ALOT of pop, all diet, but I love my pop. I think you pretty much have to give that up at least for awhile, which is better than for ever. Also, DH's favorite restaurant is HUHOT, which can be healthy, just get meat and whatever veggies I would be able to eat, but paying $8 to take 3 bites hardly seems economical. He might just have to go by himself, or I guess I could try telling them I am just there to watch and not eat anything. Eating out is going to be hard no matter what or where. SO, I am calling in the morning to make my appt. I really want/need to do this. GB would probably be better, needing to loose 200 pounsa and all and it would be faster, but you totally have to change everything drastically, where band is a more natural way eating. need to go to bed, falling asleep!

    A new question

I felt the same way about hearing that after 15 years, people had gained back 50% of their weight. Today I realized that that is some poeple, not all, and that I don't "have" to gain it back, that part is up to me. I think that not losing the weight and gaining it back are the 2 scariest things for me, but it is all up to me, it's not someone saying "ok, your done"
  17. I feel the same way about eating out, what am I going to do, not being able to drink my diet pepsi, eat the food I want etc. My husband's favorite restaurant is a mongolian BBQ, can be healthy but is all you can eat. Stupid to pay $8 to eat 3 bite... I am just starting this journey so have a ways to go on that part.
  18. I took a Dollar Tree prego test, it was + and he will be 2 in June!! They work just as well as the $20 ones and are even easier to use. My Dr. said a + is a + and those look +, but I would take another one, I bet it will be + now! The Dr office does the same test. Good luck!
