  1. Only saw my surgeon while in Mexico. He dropped in on me every day, and before the surgery he explained it and what I could expect after. Haven't seen anyone since coming home, but everything is healing well. Saw a new PCP and told him about the surgery and that everything had gone well.
  2. My bed was hard, too, and I was at a real hospital. I think all hospital beds are that way. And don't get me started about only CNN. They really need to do better for American patients.
  3. Through BeliteWeight? Hospital Angeles or Star Medica?
  4. Same here. Juarez. I just told them I had nothing to declare. They ran our names, and waved us through. Getting into Mexico is easy - we drove right through. Getting back is what takes time.
  5. We had a 45 minute wait at the border. Once we got to the front it was quick because I had a passport for my friend had a Nexus card (better than a passport).

    No Travel to Mexico?

They think all Americans are rich. Maybe by their standards even those on welfare are doing well. And yes, they all want to sell us something. As we were waiting to cross the border, just on the Mexican side where traffic was a parking lot, tons of people were walking between the cars with their wares. We sat there for 45 minutes before getting our turn.

    No Travel to Mexico?

Same here. My friend didn't want to leave, so we just ordered from the hospital menu for him. It didn't look unsafe outside, but he refused to leave, maybe because he didn't know the language.

    Which hospital ?

I went to Star Medica through Be LiteWeight. This is in Juarez and is the hosital the U.S. embassy uses for American employees. It's a full service hospital with the second floor dedicated to American patients. The doctor spoke perfect English and explained everything to me. They kept me two nights and three days - no hotels or anything - you stay in the hospital the whole time. Very happy with my experience.

    Currency/Tipping

Anyplace on the border will take U.S. dollars. Heck - a lot of places further into Mexico will take them too. They prefer them over pesos. I went on a spring break trip once all the way down Baja California. We never had to use pesos even at our furthest point out

    Mexico

I did the same as Nova above. Dr. Rodriguez at Star Medica in Juarez, across the border from El Paso. I had a great experience. $6850 for the sleeve total including take home meds. I echo everything she said.
  11. My surgery was through BeLite Weight in Star Medica hospital in Juarez. It worked good for us as we could drive to El Paso and save flight money. They do a leak test, but it's while you are still under instead of the regular barium test. And like the other girl said, all testing is done when you arrive - blood tests, x-ray, etc. I arrived the day before so I spent a total of 3 nights in the hospital. Surgery was Thursday morning, and I went home Saturday afternoon (well, back across the border - then we spent the night at a cheap hotel). The first night I was in a lot of pain. I begged the hospital staff to give me stronger pain meds, and they did and I could finally sleep. By the second night the pain was better and their usual med was fine for me. They sent me home with 20 pain pills, but I only used 10 of them - after the first 24 hours the pain isn't that bad. The doctor spoke great English, and some of the nurses spoke some English. And they used Google translate when needed. That was cool. Only 1 TV channel in English - CNN. Ug. They had WiFi at the hospital so I could post stuff from my phone. We never had to leave the hospital. All we needed was food for my friend and the hospital had that. I just asked him not to eat in front of me, lol. The nurses used either gloves or some sort of hand sanitizer. I felt safe from any infection. It was $50 for the take home meds, but they told me that up front in one of the e-mails they sent me, so I came prepared with $50 in cash in an envelope.
  12. That was pretty much my view. I finally asked about Maria Bonita and if it was apartments or a hotel (it's a hotel) because it was all I could see from my bed.

I used Dr. Rodriguez at BeLite Weight in Juarez. Star Medica Hospital. I paid a $500 deposit online, and then paid the rest with a cashier's check once I got there. Great experience.

Is Belite Weight still in business??

I used BeLiteWeight one month ago and had a great experience! Dr. Rodriguez was awesome and told me what to expect after the surgery so I wouldn't freak out. So far I am down 20 lbs.

    Premier Protein!

Costco doesn't have it. I found it at my local grocery store in 4 packs and bought 2 just to change things up.
  21. I had a 9 hour drive home after surgery (not me driving). If I can handle that, you can handle a short flight. We stayed over one night in a cheap motel because the hospital released me too late to make the entire drive that day.

    Meaty Meltdown

I'm 2 1/2 weeks post-op and afraid of chicken. I tried it twice (too early) and threw up one of those times. The other I just had really bad chest pain. Seems to be how my body says, "Don't eat that."
