Surgery in one week, freaking out
Neens replied to Kikidi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I'm 26 years old and almost 3 months post op. I can only talk to you from my experience with this surgery so far and I hope that helps. I got the gastric by-pass on Aug. 14th 2017, and since that day my life has improved in so many ways. You can see my stats on my profile but I started with 120 kg and I'm already down to 89, i feel lighter, i can walk all i want and i don't get tired, i am more socially active than i was a few months ago, i have more energy. I never had any regrets, except that I didn't get the surgery sooner. Before this I failed every diet I tried. I'm not saying everything with this surgery is great, it's hard at first, you have to learn how to eat again, there'll be times when everyone's eating burgers and fries and you'll be having a tiny container of broth, but things get better and you get used to eating less than you did and less than everyone else. You will miss some foods (you'll probably be able to eat everything again down the road but it will take time). And some of the foods you love won't taste so great after surgery. Just think about this will you be able to lose those 80 pounds by dieting and exercising? Will you be able to maintain that lifestyle? If you think so why haven't you done that already? For me surgery was what I was expecting, hard, not fun at first but totally worth it. -
I did suffer back pain after surgery, it started as soon as i woke up from the anesthesia And it lasted for at least a month (i always had back pain but that one felt different) i asked my surgeon and he said it was probably bc i was not standing straight, i’m almost 3 months out and sometimes i still feel it. I used a heating pad and it helped a lot.

I just got back from my 10 weeks post op appointment with my Nutritionist, and some things shocked me, like the fact she allows me to eat pasta (with no cheese and veggies but it's still pasta) and RICE. The rice part is the one that confuses me the most because I read a lot of you talking about how we shouldn't eat rice anymore after the by-pass. Of course I follow my nut's diet and so far it's been working great (I lost 31 kg between my pre-op and post-op diet in less than 6 months) so I trust her but why isn't there like a universal RNY diet? Why is everyone's so different?

Why are diets so different?
Neens replied to Neens's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah exactly! Also why some say you will NEVER be allowed to eat certain foods and then you find people that are allowed to eat it, in my case i’ve see a lot of people saying rice is banned, and yet two days ago my nutritionist added it to my diet. It’s a bit confusing, although as I said before I will follow her instructions and eventually will try it. Maybe the diet depends on the country i don’t know many people that got the surgery where I live so I can’t compare my diet with others. -

Neens replied to Neens's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Of course i trust my doctors and im following their instructions i was just wondering why there are so many opinions on what we can and can’t eat and when. But anyways, yeah what you said makes total sense, i hadn’t thought of the fact that its very difficult to find one universal diet. -
Why are diets so different?

I couldn’t eat solids until week 5 first two weeks were liquids then puréed food for two weeks and the i incorporated solids very slowly. This is what i mean with different diets. How can every profesional have such different opinions on this? -
Everyone: What was your turning point in your life that made you decide the wls route?
Neens replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For me it was two factors, my period stopped because I was overweight and I developed Metabolic Syndrome. And the second, my dad was diagnosed with Diabetes last year, and I was heading that way, my grandpa died from complications with Diabetes. So I decided to talk with my doctor and she agreed that wls was my best choice, so here I am 2 months post-op and about 20 kg away from my goal weight. -
Sleeve VS RNY (Any advice welcome!)
Neens replied to Road2Newme3's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well what happened to me was that I wanted the sleeve, but i had severe GERD and my esophagus was already hurt because of it, so my Surgeon advised me against it because I most likely would have to get a revision. This was not what I was expecting but I didn't want to risk going through this surgery twice. Today I'm almost two months post op and really happy with my RNY. So you do your research and make your own decision but also listen to your doctor's advice because they know better. -
I was the same when I was on the liquid stage, but once I started to eat real food, my restriction grew and I felt full. So don't worry it's normal. Liquid passes quickly and doesn't sit on your stomach too long.

Highest weight vs 4 weeks post op RNY. Still have a long way to go but this motivates me to keep going. -
Ok, I'm only on clear liquids, 8 days post op and I do not feel full, not even when I have Jello, I'm not up to testing it so I don't hurt myself but the most i've felt is like a grunting sound coming from my stomach so I take that as a signal and I stop, but not uncomfortable at all. I could eat like 2 cups of Jello slowly in 2 1/2 - 3 hrs and didn't feel full at all. Is that weird? Should I be concerned? I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow and I've written down a lot of questions but I just want to hear other people's experiences. I feel like if i wanted I could drink a whole glass of water with no problem in one sitting.

I'll be two weeks post op on Monday, for me I had almost no pain, maybe only the first two days but It wasn't terrible, the pain meds they gave me at the hospital were enough to control it, I went home on day 3 post op and didn't need any pain meds. I was uncomfortable for like 5 more days mostly because of the stitches, so I just spent my days on the couch watching Netflix. I'm going back to work on Monday, so far I still feel good, I'm taking my vitamins, protein shakes, broth, just fine (i'm on a liquid diet still). But I'd say take at least 2 weeks off... not less than that.

HEy this may be a bit TMI but I was wondering if this is normal or if i should call my doctor I have an appointment in 3 days. I've had bowel movement since day 4 after surgery today is day 6 (i'm on a clear liquids diet so not even protein shakes just water, jello, broth) i figured nothing solid would come out since all i'm getting is liquids but is it normal that i go to the bathroom at least twice a day and it's all diarrhea? (i was like this before i went two or three times a day with no problems) I'm concerned i'm not retaining any liquids, I'm not feeling sick, my stomach doesn't hurt, I feel pretty normal except for this. I'm sorry this is TMI

Hi! I'm 5 days post-op and I'm on a clear liquid diet for 5 more days when i have my 1st week appointment with my doctor. The first few days i didn't feel the need of eating food but yesterday everything changed, i try to stay away when my family is eating because i can't stand watching them. I know this will pass and i only have one more week until i can have pureed foods but it's getting harder and harder. Of course I will not eat anything, I don't want to do anything that will hurt me. Also so far I've only been taking water with no sugar flavorings which I'm allowed, but i hated the taste of broth and I can only take like a tiny cup of it and jello has helped a bit but it's not the same. I don't even crave junk food, I'd eat a scoop of cream cheese if I could. I don't know if this makes sense I just needed to get it out of my system because my family doesn't understand. Also all my friends and family that came over to visit me after surgery ended up staying for dinner and I just walked away while everyone else was eating, makes me feel so bad.

Hi everyone! I got home today, its my third day post op. Im very uncomfortable, which i expected, but its very hard to take my liquids, i'm on a clear liquids diet until next week, just water, jello and broth. My doctor told me to take two liters of liquids per day but i can barely reach one. Im scared i will end up hospitalized because of dehydration. Just wanted to share my experience. Hope everyone is doing great!

Today is day 4 and it was much better. I didn't reach my goal (I still have maybe 3 more hours left) so i'll see how close i can get. Thank you all for commenting!!

Not telling Mom/some others....opinions
Neens replied to ProfessorSlim's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did tell all my family and luckily everyone accepted it and were really happy for me, well except my dad he wasn't so sure but still kept his opinion to himself and is taking me to the hospital tomorrow (surgery day!!) I didn't want to tell people at work and i told only a few people including my boss of course but she has a big mouth and told everyone else. I work at the same hospital im getting the surgery so they were going to find out anyways, luckily the fee people that came to me to talk about it were really supportive and some even came to ask about it because they are thinking about getting surgery themselves. -

Im feeling really nervous and anxious
Neens posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started my pe-op liquid diet today (i'm one week away from surgery) and i've been feeling extremely nervous and anxious since yesterday. I also found myself giving really aggressive responses to people and I even dreamt about the day of my surgery. I'm not scared about anything going wrong during surgery, i'm more scared about afterwards. I kinda know what to expect because i've read a lot of testimonies and i've seen a lot of youtube vida to educate myself but each person is different so the not knowing is killing me. I'm just looking for moral support here and some advice. Thanks! -

Getting my surgery in two weeks + anxiety
Neens posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I'm new here. I started my process on May and last week we set my surgery date for Aug. 14th!!!! I lost around 9 kg since my first appointment but right after we set the date my anxiety took over my brain and i started eating junk, my excuse has been "well in one week you start the liquid diet so you should enjoy food now" which I know is stupid because i'm doing this to change my life and my habits, today i told my brain NO and went back to my diet, I hope i didn't mess up my weight this past few days because I have to stay on the same weight or less or the surgery will be moved or cancelled. Anyone else had this problem before the surgery?
