Acronyms - Lets Make A List...
GeTnBackuP replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Best. Answer. Ever. Am pre-op (10/17) and this is the exact information I am looking for to educate myself about my soon to be very different life. Thank you!! I thought a slider was food that “slid” down your throat easy peasy since many experience gag-like symptoms right after surgery. Now I know, especially with my tendencies, it’s something I need to be cautious of. Thanks again!!! -

Not an acronym but what is a slider? -
Items to have on hand post-op
GeTnBackuP replied to allie2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m probably going overboard but I’d rather have something at home than not especially since I’ll be alone for a day and a half....I also got things that will transition me from phase 1 into phase 2. Liquid Tylenol, sublingual B12, multivitamins, papaya tablets, milk of Magnesia or GasX, ginger tea, G2 Gatorade, pill crusher, SF jello & pudding & popsicles, chicken broth, canned beans, tuna and chicken for puréed protein, powdered peanut butter, cream of wheat, powdered milk, applesauce, almond milk, all ingredients for the famous ricotta bake. I’ve got a couple books off Amazon and have stocked dry items or made a list for perishables for the recipes I’d like to try. They sound appetizing NOW but from what I’m reading the tastebuds may change... -
5 1/2 months 86 pounds down with pictures
GeTnBackuP replied to Moving Mountains.'s topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Wow, you look amazing, great job! Really, you’re such an inspiration. My surgery is a couple weeks out and I’m not really having doubts about it, more like questioning whether I can do it and follow through. I hear such horror stories about how difficult the transition is from us eating too much to not ever being able to overeat again, the restrictions and just adapting to an entirely different lifestyle. I KNOW I can do, guess I’m just scared. Like you said, I want to feel better too [emoji4] thanks for sharing! -
Post Surgery Tastebuds Changes: tell me yours
GeTnBackuP replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love fries but never really ate them so that would be no loss for me but I do love cake and do have the occasional sweet tooth after a meal but HA now that I type that I suppose I wont be having a whole lot of meals in the next few months so takes care of that after dinner treat! I love my Premier shake sand just bought 3 cases of them so I hope I can get them down. Because I pretty much love all foods now I am fearful that I wont like much of anything post surgery. I wonder if this is a permanent thing? Will you ever love french fries again? hmmmmmI cant imagine a life without an Eruption Cake -
Vitamin and B12 patches
GeTnBackuP replied to HDScarlett's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery is October 17 so I’m still pre-op but I bought a pill crusher to sprinkle into whatever I can get down. I was thinking more for pain meds but can I also crush vitamins? -
Can she (we) drink Pedialyte? Lots of electrolytes there.....

Anybody on the pre op liver shrinking diet???
GeTnBackuP replied to juju7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the Bariatric Fusion liver reduction diet. I had a few roasted chick and broccoli cheat days mixed in. Lots of broth, jello and tropical popsicles, black coffee. I struggled some but after a few days I did fine, I think mind and body just got used to it. I think it’s a good idea to prepare ourselves mentally for what is to come. -
I was in CVS yesterday and heard a few kids talking about how they use Pedialyte after drinking to help with hangovers!! So many mornings I wished I’d known about that! Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here has drank it in their early post op liquids stages. I would imagine it’s good for us with all those electrolytes. Any thoughts?

All of the sudden I can stand protein shakes and anything dairy
GeTnBackuP replied to dennisdj's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I actually really like the Premier shakes so I ordered three cases from Costco. After reading all of the horror stories about our tastebuds changing I thought holy cow, what if I end up hating these things post op!!!! Yikes!!! Hang in there, hopefully it’ll get better for you...gotta get that protein in!!! -
I'm not sure the "meeting your deductible or Out of Pocket" expense is part of the actual approval process or its criteria. I started in May 2017 and had to go through the blood panels, exercise evaluation, colonoscopy, psych eval, several consults with a Nutritionist, and get a letter of recommendation from my PCP, two sleep studies for apnea and of course meeting with the surgeon several times. This actually took about six months. I did the sleep study early on because I knew I had severe apnea and needed to be on a BiPap machine for at least 30 days prior to being submitted for approval. On the 3rd and last pre op visit with the doc he told me to lose 10-15 pounds then sent me to his affiliated Nutritionist who set me up with a Keto diet. I failed that because although I was in ketosis many times, I still ate too many calories. I decided to go on the Bariatric Fusion website Liver Reduction Diet. It sucked but I ended up being OK with shakes and homemade chicken stock. I lost 13.5 pounds and at my next doc visit he submitted me to my insurance and I literally was approved within 72 hours. I am in California with Anthem Blue Cross. It's end of year and my OOP will happen to be less than $500. I know it's not what you want to hear but what I'm learning here is if you're self pay, almost anything goes. If you're insured (and their rules vary wildly) we have to be patient and abide by what they tell us to be approved. I've actually taken this time to "try" to reprogram my stubborn mindset into learning another way of thinking about food and my eating habits. This site is an amazing resource and I think the most important take away is that I need to realize my life will forever be changed the moment I come out of the recovery room and I truly need to be committed to a healthier lifestyle. I'm 53 and it's my time. Watch out [emoji8][emoji8][emoji8][emoji8]

Hello all, October 17th here! Bags of mixed emotions but I can't wait to start this journey!!! Check this out- I had to work the past two Saturdays and so I took the liberty of printing out this lovely blogsters (is that even a word?) recipes and happenings Phase by Phase. I put it all in a lovely binder for later reference. (Please note that I worked from home for over two months with no reimbursement for paper or ink so HA no guilt here!!) She's amazing, funny, sassy and oh so yummy. The creator, I believe, of the now famous Ricotta Bake. She provides way more and much better information than my surgeons affiliated weight loss center does. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/?m=1

Full Fat Mayo, cottage cheese, and yogurt
GeTnBackuP replied to Nancy MBGC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Huh, I never did non/lol fat and I had a terrible gallbladder emergency, out it went. So the avocado thing- you mash it and mix it in tuna? No mayo? Interesting....crazy, I'm such a foodie and now I have to relearn a whole new way of eating! -
Ticker....I'm on my phone app right now and I don't see that here but if you're on the computer go to your profile settings where you add your stats and you should see the ticker section there...I kind of stumbled into it but it's there.

Can I puree anything and would it be acceptable?
GeTnBackuP replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in Purée (stage 2)
I was thinking mainly for the pureed stage to supplement protein shakes but, yes, I did forget about our credo: Protein First. Thank you!! -
Just want to say THANK YOU!!

Ah, yes, I have seen some of those posts and honestly, they're too painful for me! It's the encouragement and inspiration I come for. Take what I need, offer what I can and leave the rest.... -
Stuck at work second Saturday in a row and I'm gettin me some good B-Pal time in!! All I can say is WOW WOW WOW THANK YOU Your stats are blowing me away.
