Threw up for the first time 2 & 1/2 Months Post-Op
FluffyChix replied to Ruby Hernandez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yikes! Sorry!!! You'll know soon if it's a one-off. Maybe take a small step back a stage at your next meal and see how you do with it, and also see how you do with fluids. A tough food can happen any time. Or maybe you didn't chew well enough, ate too fast, took too big of a bite, or are just having an "off" day where your pouch or esophagus are irritated. -

TY. I'd love to go but Mr. F. has fearsome allergies to asian food...some kind of preservative in the sauces. So if I can do a no frills version for him, and a frills version for me...well WIN-WIN-WIN fo'shizzles!!! Asian's "back on the table" then. -

At a KB place, can you choose as the cook, how much if any sauce to apply? -
Awwww man! SUX!!!! I hate when that happens!!! Hope you feel better soon. (P.S. Now you know it can happen to you, buy a glucose monitor and keep it beside you. Also buy glucose tablets. When you first start to feel "something not quite right", then you can take your BG. It will begin to show low <70 and that's symptomatic. So you pop a glucose tablet and chew and take the BG 30 minutes later and it should have come back out of the danger zone. And you may actually miss the dumping event!! Then it's important to eat some protein after that 30 minutes to keep your bg from rollercoastering again.) Hugs!!!

Stay the course. Fluctuate between 60-70g. NBD. Keep your meals the way you have them. TE (telegen effluvium) is gonna happen to most of us...it did to me. My hair loss is now back to normal/manageable. Congrats on your losses!!! Keep going. Cuz at 5'2" if you can get more (deeper) into the normal zone during the honeymoon the better! -

@GreenTealael This is for you snookums! I was gonna do an egg puff, but my inner Tea said, "No, no, no! Matcha yogurt please!" The rest is history. There were no survivors. (oh and this is an old pic. LOL...lazy much?) -
What to say to Dr?
FluffyChix replied to jackieecho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went from my oncologist (who had been trying for 2 years to hammer home that I needed this surgery), to the surgeon. And then I simply told my PCP what was gonna go down. He was only semi-jiggy with it, but skeptical. Oh well...good thing he didn't get a choice in it. -
Yay congrats!!!! (And on behalf of toe-jam phobics the world around, TY from the bottom of my heart for not photographing your feet in this photo!!!!! )

Great article, and it addresses specifically what I said. https://www.obesityaction.org/community/article-library/protein-supplements-weight-loss-surgery/ But nowhere does it mention the "advantage" of making your own "protein water" from collagen. LOL. Collagen is highly controversial about whether there is any intrinsic value to supplementing with it since our bodies are capable of making the 3 amino acids predominant in collage protein. So IF you're gonna drink clear protein, just go ahead and buy the REAL DEAL stuff that is made from isolate with all the ESSENTIAL amino acids. LOL. It will taste better and be better for you. And go ahead and drink some homemade or minimally processed bone broth. Eat a thing or two of jello. Collagen dilemma solved. If it does help, you've got it covered. But there is no need to "load protein" beyond what your normal protein goal is for the day...

Diarrhea and work
FluffyChix replied to Sharon B A's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Don't IF -- it's too soon. So is this gonna be a continual issue or is it only the result of the immediate surgery? Like with my emergency gut surgery, I developed an "Incomplete Ileus" which means I had large loops of bowel that were asleep and not having regular peristaltic contractions. So food, water, and poo would mix and sit and ferment until I'd have a "wave" of contraction that would cause me to have terrible and foul smelling big D. And I'd have them 10-12 times per day. Usually after any liquids went in my mouth or any food down my piehole, but sometimes for no reason at all. It goes away with time as your gut wakes up again. So I had to "try" to be careful about what and how much I ate--something I didn't do very well on lol since I wasn't healing like you. They didn't cut into my gut, only had to touch every inch of them to make sure they weren't dead/rotting, and untangle them. So it wasn't AS important to follow a liquid progression since I was moving things through--just spastically. So I think it should get better with time if this is what you have? You may also be developing some kind of dairy intolerance. Make sure your protein drinks are whey protein ISOLATE and not concentrate which has lactose in it. And avoid dairy. Also try adding probiotic capsule contents into your shakes. Also drink a spoon or two of raw sauerkraut juice 2-3 times per day to rebuild your gut. And go to the pharmacy and buy this: Alex sells it here on the BP store. https://www.poopourri.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwvo_qBRDQARIsAE-bsH-grA0qD5BVk6l_SQo7scnZx-oaFuUOdDbyEb3LTtIkVUL-GHa4UmwaAhygEALw_wcB -
Your RD is misinformed. Sure, eat jello, use collagen. Do what makes you "feel good" cuz placebos work too! But the real truth is that you need an assortment of proteins (most of them "complete" with the 9 essential amino acids=the ones our bodies can't make) each day--especially when we're immediately healing. And collagen consists primarily of 3 amino acids that we ALREADY make in our own bodies. They are not "essential."

I will just tell you that EVERY day you get stuff straight up front, is one LESS day you may potentially be in crisis on the back end. And I think your new doc may be right. I would want my meds taken care of up front and a plan in place for post surgery absorption before I go into surgery. ((hugs)) and seriously, 30-60days will pass in the blink of an eye girl!! Take care of your head first, so you can have the MOST optimal success with your tum!

Collagen is a fairly "worthless" protein source and is incomplete. There is SOME anecdotal evidence that it helps skin, hair and nails. You CANNOT game the system. LOL. You need as my surgeon said, one of two kinds of protein: 1. Whey Protein (preferably isolate, but it can be a mixture of isolate + concentrate) = most readily absorbable 2. Soy Protein Isolate (which is less bioavailable than whey) = 2nd most readily absorbable

I eat either Kimchi or raw sauerkraut/veggie ferments daily for my gut healing. They are a great source of pre-biotic fiber. -

@texasnewf So the thing we're all jumping on here to discuss is that this is the new post surgery honeymoon period. As a doc explained to me that in the first 2 months you will lose the MOST amount of weight you will ever lose as a direct result of this surgery. She explained that it was because of the extreme calorie/volume restriction. But any of us can game the system from the get go. We do that by drinking liquid calories, or eating "slider" calories. Even from day 1 post surgery! If you eat high calorie (dense calories) with high fat and high sugar and highly processed, it will impact your health and also the rate of loss. So in essence, you are trying to "game the system" because of your food addictions and food enmeshment. The honeymoon period as was said above, is to allow you time to begin breaking up with food. Embrace the suck. Embrace "boring" (ie not Chinese or Pizza). LOL. Embrace food antipathy. Keep your protein high, carbs and fat low and learn that life is about more than that next fix--that next bite. During the honeymoon phase you CAN actually rebuild your gut biome. By eating health foods: lean dense protein, veggies, healthy fats and a TINY amount of dark berries you get to where you crave THAT kind of food! You crave healthy foods prepared simply and cleanly. And at some point the cease to be "boring" and rather just "pure" or "cleanly prepared." But you don't get there if you continue to use your old food crutches of Chinese/Pizza/Mexican highly processed foods. And I think that's what we're all kinda a little "undone" about in your post. And with the newest batch of newbies this summer...
