    Eating Meat

Yes, but that's a full protein too. And you get other sources of protein as well!! Hey you should try the Good Culture Cottage Cheese--it's fermented and tastes lovely!

    snacks

Ok, so I'm gonna give you unpopular advice, but advice that comes from the men and women who give us these surgeries and the RDs who work for them... We will never be "perfect" but you can at least plan for "ideal" and accept that you are human. What the means? Don't look at mini meals as high reward events to "treat" yourself. Don't plan for maintaining or supporting the negative habit of "snacking" by making it a high reward event. Go for boring. Go for fuel. Change the thought and reframe it. Right now, you need to eat minimeals cuz of your volume limits and how new you are post op. So each meal should NOT consist of highly processed foods. It should be 3-6 pretty evenly balanced calorie/macro mini-meals. (And from my standpoint I try to do clean/low reward/minimally processed foods that still satisfy--but that's just me.) So mini meals now, since I can get most if not all of my food into 3 events, is actually 3 meals + 1-2 "snacks" of 100cals or less (think raw veggies and a yogurt ranch dip--homemade) if ABSOLUTELY necessary. Snacking is a slippery slope--especially if you can eat 1cup of food volume per meal. It just packs on mindless (often slidery calories) that will inhibit maximum weight loss. And it's so possible to have a 500-600 calorie snack from crap! And if we've made it to the MO Ball, chances are we KNOW how to snack. So a better question would be, what are some QUICK and easy mini meals? 1. Cheese stick/baby bel/light wedges 2. 1-2oz rotisserie chicken 3. L/F or plain yogurt with 1oz blueberries + PB2 powder 4. Cottage cheese + 1oz of some kind of fruit you can eat or some savory veg 5. Tuna/chicken/salmon pouches (2oz) 6. P3 (processed, but still sometimes necessary) 7. Lunchmeat roll-ups (processed, but still sometimes necessary) 8. Bone broth 9. Leftover meats from previous meals 10. SF Jello 11. SF Popsicles 12. 1 cup of raw veggies or salad with Greek Ranch dressing 13. 1 cup of cooked veg or salad of your choice with minimal calorie dressing 14. hard boiled eggs 15. 1 tbsp nut butter with veggie sticks 16. Iced protein latte or frappacino 17. cold boiled shrimp 18. meat stick/beef jerky (processed but sometimes still necessary) 19. hummus and carrots or raw veggies 20. thinking... I could go on and on...
  4. Awww! Booo on them! TY so much for letting me know! I wish I could take another type of iron that is as well absorbed. I'm not averse to switching!
  5. ((hugs)) You are right on time for the "Sophomore Slump". Come join us in the Sophomores thread! Honestly, it's a tough time. And your tool is maturing allowing less restriction. It's part of why it's so important not to believe the myth of restriction/malabsorption. At some point, everything in moderation will have a different meaning volumetrically and that could be enough to either derail losses entirely, cause stalls, or rebound weight gain. The things that helped me: 1. Planning, weighing, measuring and logging my food daily--good and bad 2. Following my surgeon's basic guidelines for the forever-diet including the 1cup max per meal; 3 meals + 1-2 VERY small snacks a day if necessary, protein first then veg then fruit and a tiny bit of fat. 3. Mixing things up to make them fun again--I added IF/EF to my plan. 4. Find fun peeps to hang out with who have shared goals/paths. Hope that helps!

    Eating Meat

Don't cheat eat meat! (so that all will be well in your protein world) Please make sure everyone that you are getting your protein needs met each day from many many different sources--not just meat! It all adds up! @Stephie626 and all, if you're not eating meat, how much protein are you getting in each day and from what sources?
  7. Congrats! Ok, here's your advice from me. Work your program. Follow your doctor's plan to a T. Don't wing it. Don't morph it to "suit you." Don't diverge. Maintain laser focus and follow the rules including his instructs for exercise. And you will not recognize yourself in 6 months! WTG girl!!
  8. @Alex Brecher I think having a warning and link to the study in a prominent place is perfect. There are so many people who are not able to get their vits/mins in any other way. And I think the fact that BP offers SO many variables for supplementation makes you the perfect guide for post op nutrition care. I love that y'all offer: The Patch Tespo Your BP 1-a-Day Multi Celebrate BariMelts/BariFusion ALL. THE. BARIS. (I wish you would start carrying Feosol-Bifera Iron (HIP & PIC Iron) ) Why? Cuz I'm selfish that way. Here's the link to it: https://www.feosol.com/en/save-big-with-coupons?gclid=CjwKCAjw-vjqBRA6EiwAe8TCk3jfW3ybzz77caRO407SjuILNYPPI0tWyudA-cYOGWpe6EC9ahHujBoCbJIQAvD_BwE

    food journal

Yep. Good or bad. If it goes in my mouth it gets recorded--with few exceptions. Some weekend days it's just too beyond me. My Fitness Pal free version--so so easy to use once you populate it with recent foods, favorite foods, my foods, my meals, etc. It also tracks my exercise, weight, measurements, nutrients, and stuff.

    Foods that make you dump

I get it (RH=delayed dumping) with all the same symptoms from: 1. Meals with way too much fat/richness. 2. Cheese/meat boards (too much fat in it and the cheese is an issue) 3. Too many carbs/sugar (real ice cream, desserts, too much sugar free dessert, chips, crackers, pretzels, popcorn, rice, bread, fruit, root veggies: potatoes, sweet potatoes) 4. Hidden sugars in restaurant food 5. Too much alcohol It's not enough to be a deal-breaker for me. Just gives me extra incentive to eat "on plan" healthy food that is very lean and low. I'm actually very very happy eating this way and don't miss the old ways. I think it's actually developed and gotten worse the further out I am.
  13. Not whacky! I bet it was delish?!! All you need is a bit of rosemary, maybe a little basil...lemon zest. YUM!
  14. Dang! That reminds me to start back on GS apples with peel and to try 1/2oz of almonds with them again! Woot! TY for that!

Calling all vets- where are you

TY! You must have read me on a "good day" when I've "taken my meds..." hahahaha (j/k--not that there's anything funny about being on mood-altering medication--just that I do "have my moments" of maybe..."too much truth". ) Great to be here! Let's get this board a hoppin'! (Cuz if the house is a rockin, don't bother knockin--just come on in!)

Here's mine. I was 137lbs...I'm 135lbs now, so not much diff, I don't think? This week:

  21. Tell us more about this splenic flexure, Mommy! What is it? Inquiring minds and all!
  22. Yay!!!!! Congrats on your 10lbs loss in a month!!! Way to crush a new decade!!!! Wooohooo!
  23. Ha! Here it is...the non-recipe! I just fill a large tumbler full of ice. I use these amounts to make 2 drinks. Sometimes I sprinkle in cinnamon and add a few drops of liquid stevia (your favorite flavor but I like chocolate, caramel, and vanilla). My favorites protein drink faves with the decaff coffee are either chocolate or bananas and cream PP ready to drink drinks. But there are other shakes out there that are low carb and low sugar/low cal that are ready to drink that work. I also like mixing the shakes with iced tea. Love the strawberries and cream and also the peaches and cream with decaf tea. I make a mixture of decaff green and decaff black tea and make it just like I do the iced coffee. I just take 1/2 a bottle of PP and 6-8oz of decaff plus any spice or sweetener and mix it with lots of ice. Or, I put it in a blender and blend with ice until it's the consistency that I like. It's a non-recipe really. And at the end of the two drinks (which go down very easily for me, I've got my 30g of protein in).

5 years out and trying to reset

Oh my gosh, yes! What @mi75 and @Stella S said! I am only 18months but I know with my personality that "everything in moderation" is a myth. I also have a larger capacity tool, so the myth of restriction/malabsorption isn't going to be a huge help going forward. So I just have to have a game plan and weigh, measure and log my foods daily to make sure I'm staying honest with myself. (Good and bad days.) It's a little terrifying to think of doing that forever. So I only try to focus on today. Tomorrow I'll worry about that later...
