Talking about the surgery with people
FluffyChix replied to JSSteinman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I decided pre-surgery that I did not have to be the poster child for bariatric surgery awareness. So it's Noneya. As in Noneyabeezewax. LOL. I just smile and say, "Yep, I'm working my ass off literally and figuratively. Who knew that diet and exercise really work?! -
I FREAKIN LOVE this post!!! Wooot!!!! We don't need no stankin' candy protein bars!!!! Go rip into 2 hb eggs and for 140cals you get 12-14g eggs.

Nutritionist thinks I should be eation 1000 cals a day!
FluffyChix replied to Briswife15's topic in Food and Nutrition
OMG yes! YES! HELL YEAH!!! (am I yelling? cuz it feels like it...) I could have written this myself. I just smile and nod. Smile and nod. LOL. My sweet spot for losing was and is 650-850. Truthfully, it's on the 650 side of it. My BMR is only around 1250cals base. So a 500 cal deficit? LOL, is right there in the ballpark. I think if you can pack the nutrition into 600-800 cals, there is no NEED to add extra crap in just to mystically up your calories. Now, if you squander that 600-800 cal window on junk food and highly processed, calorie dense, nutrient bankrupt foods? Then all bets are off. But if you focus on lean dense protein, low glycemic veggies, a bit of healthy fat, and a bit of low glycemic fruit here or there? Man...you're square, dear! -
Ok, yes! Be hard on yourself. WTF? Seriously. Call your surgeon and get a referral to your RD and to the bariatric counselor. Start therapy now. This may sound harsh? But you are 4 WEEKS post op! This is the "easiest" and the "hardest" you will ever have it and the time you will feel LEAST like eating in your entire journey. Cuz barring complications like it sounds like you're asking for, your restriction will get increasingly less and less as the months go by and you continue to heal and evolve. You either take care of your food/behavior problems now? Or you could be doomed to either never see goal, or regain. Tough? Fu*k yes. I am being tough and shocking. I hope it shocks you into getting a grip and getting real with your bad choices. It begs to be asked...Why did you have this life-changing surgery if you weren't ready to get serious about living a new life? Ask yourself, WHAT IS YOUR WHY? WHY did you want the surgery? WHY did you want a new lease on life? How important are YOU? How important is your marriage? Your LIFE? (Seriously one of the saddest posts I've ever read and I've read a bunch including a post-op eating pizza at 4 days.)

I used to be a low carb keto blogger (fluffychixcook.com) and so I was aware of all the new products on the market both for low carb keto and sugar free/grain free ingredients and food products. These came on the market a few years back and I liked that they used erythritol as a sweetener and were dark chocolate for extra polyphenol action and also had inulin in them as fiber for more pre-biotic support of your gut. I liked their taste as well, and if you do "net carbs", then one serving is only 2g of net carbs because you can subtract fiber and erythritol (sugar alcohol) carbs. Oh, and you can now buy them in many grocery stores with the other chocolate chips.

Started feeling a bit jittery
FluffyChix replied to ummyasmin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, many vitamin issues can as well. You should try 4:8 breathing, aka diaphragmatic breathing. It hacks your vagus nerve and causes you to engage your relaxation response. -
Huge congrats!! Thanks for all the inspiration!! What a great post!

Y-Connection issue with Rapid Weight Loss
FluffyChix replied to Ellf's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So it's a pretty rare finding. But if either of those things are happening, then you would end up in surgery to correct them. But most likely, you are either having gas, or maybe your full of poop. (I know I am...continually! ) Glad you're having it done. I think if it were either of the others in a serious situation the pain would be intolerable and you would most likely be "off your feed." Possibly throwing up. -

This is just me, so do your thang and happy you found something to work for you. But, my surgeon said no protein drinks over 200cals. At that point they become "milk shakes" and further, I didn't have bariatric surgery just to down massive quantities of calories and carbs in a protein drink. The purpose of protein drinks is to get nourishment down your piehole for the ABSOLUTE FEWEST calories while maxing protein. In a protein drink you want way more than 1g of protein per 10cals. And this is falling short. I can have a Premier for 160cals and get 25-30g protein. Or I can have an isopure for about 140cals and get 25g. Sorry. But I also don't want to activate the hedonic pleasure center by linking my "milk shake" with my protein drink. This is the time to retrain your brain.

5 years ago today...first day of a new life
FluffyChix replied to mi75's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Oh wow! Totally missed this thread! Congrats on 5 years and for inspiring me in the early days! I adore that you've been so successful addressing the regain and are living well!! -
@NightPilgrim How are you doing with your 5lb quest? Are you back on track?? Funny (notfunny) but at 18months, I too am struggling with the desire to eat at night--and eat not so great things!! Or eat too much of a good thing. One thing that is oddly satisfying to me again and is such a small snack that it doesn't hurt too badly is - Sugar free Jello Cups with a spoon of Greek Yogurt or an ounce of kefir poured over it. Use the unflavored and just let the sweetness of the jello flavor the yogurt or kefir. Here was my snack last night and it filled me up and let me quit obsessing about a square of chocolate. You could even have 6 Lily's Dark Chocolate Chips and a fresh strawberry on top for not much more! Thirty two cals is a bargain, right?!! Here it is with about 6 chocolate chips and a medium strawberry. Still a massive snack bargain for the ROI.

Dumping is different and involves your blood sugar going very low which causes nausea, sweating, throwups, shakes, fast heart rate. (It's usually a result for some people who have too many carbs/sugar at one time or who might have too much fat.) It can also result in big D. You're talking about foamies/throwups from not chewing your food, eating too fast, or eating the wrong thing that your tum doesn't like. It actually gets stuck in your pouch. It may also cause a RH (reactive hypoglycemia) attack which would lead to the dumping phenomenon...but only cuz it's stuck in your tool and your body released insulin on what it "thought" you were about to send down the pipes that didn't end up showing up.

🍽️ 🍽️ What's on the Menu? 🍽️ 🍽️
FluffyChix replied to ms.sss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
IKR? I know when I eat higher carb, I feel like crap the next day. Aches, and so so lethargic. Like there's no way I can do my "ralking". And so I just walk slowly for my time frame. It's very weird. And that's the only thing I can think of contributing to it?
