Sugar/Sweet Cravings
FluffyChix replied to dee0128's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You should check out a group I'm in on Facebook called Resetters with Dr. Mindy Pelz. She talks about progesterone loading the week before your period in order to help balance your hormones. You won't want to do the IF portion of it right now. Only work on getting WHAT you eat and when you eat settled. Right now your tool needs to do the heavy lifting. And, it's not a personality defect. It's being a woman. And have WLS on top of it all! You're releasing fat at a very fast pace. That fat contains wicked bad estrogens that cause your hormones and insulin to whack out. You bloat. You crave. You get cranky. You binge. You set up a repeating cycle. Break it. Weight loss will NEVER EVER be as easy as it is right now in this instant. It's like your one golden shot at WLS virginity. You can do this!! -
First Nutrition Visit Post op
FluffyChix replied to Jenaee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nah. It seems reasonable to me. That tells me they are gonna have you on some kind of liquid plan afterwards for about 3 weeks. And until you start progressing in the stages, you might not need the nutritionist yet? -
Sugar/Sweet Cravings
FluffyChix replied to dee0128's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm sorry you are struggling with this. I think it's fairly common? And I'm gonna (of course) take the other angle on this one. You had this surgery to give you an opportunity to REFRAME how you deal with food and to learn new behaviors and relationships with food. Right? You didn't get this surgery just so you could take yet, ANOTHER scenic route, meandering towards weight loss. Did you? Cuz I know I didn't. When you feed a craving you do a couple things...the biggest one is you behaviorally hard wire that action into your brain through repetition. That makes it even harder to break. And then actually using the substance like sugar makes it even worse. But also, using sugar free stuff STILL lights up your pleasure center and activates insulin (fat storing hormone). So.... My advice would be to break up with it. Get an action plan together. You are in WLM (weight loss mode right now). You need to be lean, mean, and green! Don't cheat. Eat meat! Right? So when you're hungry behaviorally, do something else. Get busy. Make sure you aren't thirsty. Deep breathe. Do relaxation practices. Change things up. Do a puzzle. Color. Do something that engages you creatively rather than passively. Exercise. Take a walk. Drink water!!! Pound the water down til you can't take another sip. Brush your teeth. Or drink black decaff coffee or decaff black tea unsweetened. NO sweets. Avoid sweets!!! Avoid sweet water, sweet vitamins, fruit, ANYTHING sweet for now. If you are wanting to eat at night, then consider adding a small mini meal. Make it only protein and a tiny bit of healthy fat. Or do a protein drink (yes, sigh, they're sweet. that's a b***h.) Eat a hard boiled egg. My rule during WLM was if I wanted to eat I got to eat a hard boiled egg, or a tuna pouch in water, or an ounce of turkey lunch meat rolled up, or a light string cheese. And if I didn't want any of those, then it was head hunger, not real hunger. And my rule was: I don't feed head hunger, that's what got me to the Obesity Ball. Hope this helps. Nip it in the bud. Once you hit maintenance you can set up a whole new set of rules to work with your pouch! -
Have fun with family girlie! We're here when you need us or want to play!!! Glad you're holding steady!

I still lost 0.2lbs (insignificant could just be water).

This! I love this one! Also the stress relief! When I feel snacky or feel stressed and anxious, I make myself get up and run for at least 5 minutes! It usually turns to 15 minutes. It seriously puts me in the moment, I can process things calmly cuz I'm exerting myself and I'm also deep breathing and focusing on how much more energy I will have after finishing running. But love thinking what I do today will translate into how I look next month. Pay it forward!

This is AWESOME!! And so true!!! Accountability is what keeps me going. I'm never gonna "lurve" exercising. Kserrynotserry...I wish I was that girl! But there just aren't enough hours in my day. But I made a commitment to walk 8-10K steps every day. And the end. No ifs, ands, or buts. I look it as part of my lifetime prescription to WLS that goes along with my Forever Diet. So to make sure it happens, I decided to get up 45minutes earlier every morning and do a minimum of 30 minutes of hard walking in the morning. Then I can walk in 15 minute bursts during the day or evening. By making it into breakable chunks, it's very easy to do. The payout is that by the time the day gets going, I've primed my metabolism with the cardio. The bonus is that my mind is more focused. I feel motivation to eat right cuz I am doing something healthy for me. And I end up walking more often 45-60 minutes at that time! And then I do some quick push-up/planks against the kitchen counter until my arms are fatigued. And I do calf lifts and leg lifts all in like 5 minutes. So it's done before I get ready for the day! Every day.

Hahaha! Steal away! BDG Goal. It's a thing. And I'm 57 and on a drug for breast cancer remission that shuts down my hormones into super-menopause. I still have lost about 155lbs. You can do this! -
Dang! How'd I miss this thread?!!!

Surgery Day! and beyond: Part 2
FluffyChix replied to mousecat88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Wow! Healing great girl! Look how the fluid has drained from your arms! You are tiny! And the scar is fading nicely. Go natural. Don't try to shave. -
I was and am a daily weigher. It keeps me accountable and connected to my data (food log, measurements, activity level, water intake, etc. ) To each his/her own. Do what makes you tick. Weight fluctuates daily. Impossible to determine without knowing more about your food log. Maybe you ate something salty yesterday like broth or V-8? Maybe you drank something that spiked your insulin and that prompted a refuel of your glycogen stores (2-4lbs btw). Some people have dramatic insulin spikes when drinking some brands of protein drinks. I know I did. I do better with a combo of concentrate and isolate rather than the isopure clear (pure isolate) that made me gain 9 lbs of fluid! Also, maybe you slept poorly the last couple of nites? You're about to get to the 3 week stall. It's normal. Relax into it.

Eight Months Out
FluffyChix replied to comingupmilhouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your great success!!! Yay you!!! I totally understand where you are coming from! I had those feelings too. I was crazy determined though! And I probably drove everyone here nuts! LOL. It's pretty natural. We've had a lifetime (most of us) dealing with the disappointment of "failing the present x-diet we were trying". And each time the pushback metabolically was worse. My doctor first set a goal of 156lbs for me. I thought I'd never see it--even though my goal was 150lbs (what I weighed in high school). But never did I believe I could reach 130lbs. So I made 3 goals and a 4th top secret BDG Goal (Barbie Dream Girl Goal) which I still don't fully believe in. LOL. You can do this. It takes fierce determination and mixing things up and not cheating. It takes doing the headwork and using this time to break up with unhealthy food relationships. If you emotionally eat, fix that now too while you have the honeymoon in your favor. I'm coming up on 21 months right now and I'm still losing when I go back into WLM from maintenance mode. This week I lost about 5lbs of bloat from Fatsgiving. I'm gonna see if I can break the 130lb sound barrier. You can do this! (OH and my doc nor my RD thought I would be able to lose this much weight. My highest was 325lbs and the most recent high was 287lbs.) -
