Trying on smaller sizes
FluffyChix replied to SIPS in Seattle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
ROFLMAO! Thank you for making me feel like I'm not alone! True story and full confession, I have eleventy billion pairs of flannel pj bottoms and tshirts--my work clothes. The other day, I switched it up and put on some pull up shorts that are falling down around my ankles (practically) and Mr. Fluffy comes home and says, "Oh good for you. You dressed for dinner!" *snort* -
Should I be concerned? Incisions...
FluffyChix replied to SIPS in Seattle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@SIPS'ing on Sunshine I like the idea of the soaking with a washrag then using that to "tease" the scab away. That was an inspired suggestion by Sosewsue! -
@DropWt4Life How well do you like his book? I'm considering getting it. I hear ya on the 1/2 cup food at a sitting. I don't really get that either. I'll go rewatch that video too! I'm not really looking to go vegetarian, but in my old life before disease, I liked to take "meals off" from meat proteins. I used to love Boca Burgers and Morning Star Farms Griller burgers. Then I developed a hormone positive disease and my doc doesn't want me eating soy any longer. So that kinda sucked. It would be lovely to have some variety and have that flexibility when you just don't feel like making turkey, chicken, or fish! You know? And I eat tons of eggs and egg whites--which I still love, but still...

Have you seen Dr. Matthew Weiner's videos on YouTube? He promotes a "plants first" way of eating and has a book out. He's a bariatric surgeon. Here's one for the 1st Month After Surgery.

Medication Absorption Question Post RNY (accidental cross-post)
FluffyChix posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
(I accidentally posted this question to the wrong board--it should have been here, not in the complications board! Derp!) Hi guys. Can you help me brainstorm a medication "hack" please? I need to try to maximize the amount of time in my potential new "tummy." I know when we have RNY our "tummys" are MUCH smaller and we also have shorter duodenums. I'm taking an anti-cancer drug that is highly dissolvable/highly permeable (BCS Class 1) and is very quickly absorbed in the tummy and intestines, but it is a fat soluble drug rather than a Water absorbable drug. I know it isn't dependent on the pH environment for absorption. So my goal would be to get my drug to "hang out" in my stomach as long as possible. So to me, that would mean, I should probably take it with dense Protein, once I've healed to the point of being able to eat dense protein. But in the short term when I'm able to eat things like yogurt, ricotta, and cottage cheese, what do you think is the one food that I could "take a bite of" to get the pill swallowed that will stay in my pouch the longest amount of time (anti-slider food)--which is why I don't want to swallow the pill with water or other liquids? The drug I'm trying to max out on tummy time is letrozole (Femara) and is a tiny orange pill that is not enteric coated nor extended release. -

Best way to Stop Losing Weight
FluffyChix replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree wholeheartedly! I can tolerate 1oz of blueberries, or any other dark berry, 1 1/2oz of Granny Smith apples or unripe pear, and 1oz of peaches. LOL. I eat them about 2-3 times per week with something else--usually a mixture of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, or a string cheese + almonds or walnuts. Otherwise my blood sugar spikes to 170 and doesn't come down after 2hours! -

FluffyChix replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok, rather than delete my post, let me apologize to @Berry78 and @Apple1. I sound like an insufferable know-it-all prick (despite my lack of penis) here. Of course eating no sugar added dried fruit would be far superior to chowing down on an caloric equivalent of any processed candy bar. And absolutely, what works for 1 person doesn't automatically work for another. The dose does make the poison. If you're eating 1tbsp of this, it's roughly 2g of carbs and about 0.625g of sugar--well below the recommended sugar threshold levels given by most of our surgeons! And, more importantly, if it adds the necessary variety and satisfies while keeping us marching on our straight and narrow path, then awesome! I loves me some dried cranberries and miss craisin salads! What I don't know is if I have the power inside of me to be satisfied with 1/16 of a cup=1tbsp of craisins. You know? So for me, I would have to defer these until I have better control on my bad self. Again, my apologies for spouting off and sounding like a ginormous asshat! -

@Apple1 - here's a snap of the label for Whole Foods No Sugar Added Dried Cranberries. 10g of sugars per serving and a terrifying 32g carbs per serving with only 1g of fiber makes this something I wouldn't have even if the dose of poison was sufficiently small enough. Frankly, I'd rather tear into a Snicker's or KitKat bar! -

@MarinaGirl Then please share this secret Mecca of dried fruit? kthnx. Yours very truly, Doubting Thomasina @Berry78 ((hugs)). You know this makes a valid point! Who was it that said, "The dose makes the poison?" -
Left hip pain and down 60 lbs - advice please
FluffyChix replied to blev's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ha! I haven't had surgery yet, but my left hip also was so painful. With my left sided cancer history that meant I had to do xrays, ct scan and an mri. Turned out to be bursitis. I had a cortisone shot and am starting PT this week. The shot helped tremendously! -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight
FluffyChix replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@Berry78 This is a truly horrifying suggestion. I you dearly, but no one WLS or normie needs the sugars that are added to make dried fruit. Look at the sugar/carb content of dried cranberries and blueberries. They will scare you shitless, I kid you not! *ring. ring. hello, porcelain god? get ready for a REALLY big job, I've got the dump truck loaded and backing up!* *snort* -
Conquering goals is hard to do!
FluffyChix replied to Redoableme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yay for you!!! That's awesome! Well, for starters, you have to figure out from your docs what "protein adequate" means to them, with reference for you. My docs are happy with my 60-70g of protein/day. And that's not "that much!" Next, completely get rid of all high glycemic crap. No matter HOW good it tastes or how much your body is tellin' you you need it. Cuz it is a lieing liar that lies! Next go back to WLS basics. No drinking before meals, or 30mins-1hr post meals. Eat protein first...and SLOWLY. Eat veggies second. And that's it. Cut out the fruit except every few days you could have 1oz of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, or strawberries with some protein and fat (like walnuts or almonds and a string cheese). Eat only 3 meals per day. Eat as low fat as possible: use extra virgin olive oil spray, molly mcbutter, lean lean proteins, Real Egg Whites or eggbeaters, 2% cheese, low fat cottage cheese and low fat greek yogurts--but READ to make sure not high carb or high sugar. Here I get 2% Daisy Cottage Cheese and get HEB plain 0Fat Greek Yogurt that only has like 4g of carbs per serving. Think a serving is 1cup for each? Keep your calories around 700-800. I used lots of hot sauce bottles with stuff! My meals were like: B: 2-3 egg whites scrambled with 1 1/2 oz baby greens + mushrooms + 1 slice Hillshire Farms Ham or Turkey (3 slices = 50 cals), hot sauce L: 3oz lean protein, 1/2-1 cup of cooked veggies, or 2cups of mixed salad, plus 1oz avocado, Walden Farm dressing D: same as lunch S: 6 almonds or 1 serving sugar free jello The first 3-4 days are relatively painful. Drink lots of water! After that, you will lose your appetite and start feeling fuller--especially if you take small bites and eat dense protein first. This may all be different for you cuz of quantities. I am non-WLS and this is pretty much how I did it for the cancer treatment and any time I'm on steroids. IF I want to eat between meals, then I will ONLY eat a hardboiled egg with Walden Farms zero cal Chipotle Mayo. If that doesn't sound good, then I won't eat between meals. I am eating this way right now, and am now eating 1000cals a day pre-surg. I eat a LOT more veggies than are listed above, but I'm not on steroids (although I just recently had a shot to the hip of cortisone--I didn't have any weight gain or terrible hunger from that shot). But otherwise, I pretty much stick to this. I also eat a little more avocado now too (for added fat cals). -

I do have 2 pair of "magic pants" that have been with me for 10+ years. They've been with me at 325lbs and fit over my bootay, and bless their pea pickin' hearts, they are still coverin' said bootay at 238.2lbs this morning. *snort* I know when I get back down to 218lbs, their life will be almost finished and their magic will run out. I will pull up my big girl panties at that time and go shop for non-stretchies! (And who am I lyin' to? I will also get a couple pair of smaller stretchies like yoga pants just cuz I love livin the dream in comfy blumfies! ) But I do wholly agree that non-stretchy pants/etc make you think twice when they begin to feel tight and uncomfortable!! -

Congrats on finding a kidney and on getting the WLS and losing so much!!! I can't speak to you re: WLS diets since I'm still pre-op. But dayum, I'm a pro at how NOT to gain while taking steroids. During cancer treatment, I had to have steroid infusions every 2 weeks prior to chemo. I have also had prednisone for a blood disease on and off from age 6mos to 11 years and then on and off for asthma after that. So I definitely know what it feels like to have steroid hunger. It's like, "Hello hungry hungry hippo! Not pleased to meetcha...again...!" During cancer treatment, I actually lost about 60lbs while most people gain 20-30lbs. I was able to control my appetite. I still got the moon face and unrecognizable features, but didn't balloon up and didn't have intractable hunger. So it can be done! I know that people with kidney disease are often on specific diets? Are you on any special diets for the CKD? Do you have to avoid certain foods (i.e. purines, etc)? -
Yikes! Thrush sucks big ones! Congrats on the surgery and 1 week losses! Hope you get to feeling better soon!

I totally get this and I could have written this post! But I have to ask you, isn't this messed up? Why don't we (and you might, I just know I don't but should) look at so called "normies" food at restaurants or in shopping carts and say the same things, "Dude, don't you have any sense eating that way? Think of how it's crapping out your body inside!" Sigh. (Not dishin' on you hon. Just asking the question for discussion--it should probably be its own topic.)
