  1. Aww! It's sad they're gone. It doesn't look like the forum is quiet. I probably just scanned old threads. I found my way in there by accident by clicking on one of the "Hot Threads" to the right of the screen. I had answered before realizing it was a Guys' Only thread. But dang, there are some really cool new dudes out here in the General Weight Loss area! Maybe we should herd them towards the "The Dude" sign? (um, by-the-by, can't say Dude without thinking of this movie. Mr. Fluffy and I tried for about the 5th straight time to watch The Great Lebowski this weekend in our never ending attempt to find common ground with the younger peeps in our family. They always seem to think that movie is a riot. I think our personal best with it is 1 hour 12 minutes, 30 seconds...)
  2. I know the threads aren't racy, nor meant to be taken as such. I'm actually envious because you guys seem to have such a tight knit, supportive community in your forum. It's also very refreshing to have a glimpse into how dudes process this whole WLS information/process. You do an excellent job with the forum. I was just feeling silly this morning and in need of distraction from the advent of a really gruesome day. (Not saying the General areas aren't fantastic and supportive...) Is it hot in here? Cuz, it FEELS hot in here!

    Work functions: eating and drinking

I'd just laugh and say either: 1. I gave boozin' up for Lent. 2. I'm givin' my livah time off for poor behavior. I wouldn't comment about the small food consumption unless pressed to do so.

    What If They Ask?

I'd just say when asked, "Magic, baby! Pure magic!"
  5. I got to set my own diet...otherwise, the Nut's plan is a 1200cal/day Weight Watchers style plan. I am using a low carb approach that she approved. My doc didn't care which way I went as long as I was consuming the amount of cals she's told me to consume. ((hugs)) to you!

This liquid diet is killing me

@DropWt4Life You have such an awesome outlook and attitude! Congrats on your success and can't wait to watch the completion of your transformation!
  7. Ladies...what we have here is a failure...to communicate! (said in my best Carol O'Connor voice). bahahahahahahaha!

    New and Scared

Wow! You've got a LOT on your plate. Hang in there and try it one day/one meal at a time. I'd also purge my kitchen of all tasty yummies and clean out the fridge...I'd also eat on a very rigid schedules so I never got hungry.

New member: feeling lonely and scared

Wow. ((hugs)). I know this is an overly simplistic approach coming from someone who isn't a mommy. But I used to be a nanny to many different kiddos. One thing that helped with ADHD and ADD was to change their diet. I know. I know...but I swear you could see the difference within 48 hours. My suggestion would be to put both of you on a "healthy" eating program. Get ALL contraband "crap" outta the house. And start weaning both of you off junk (processed, chemical laden, artificial color laden, sugar laden, high glycemic) food. Start eating meats, fish, veggies, fruit, nuts, seeds, healthy fats. Who knows, maybe your son would also feel SO much better and become less of a handful, so that your aunt would be more willing to care for him in your home--while you are there to supervise them? You can hire drivers to get you to and from the hospital for less than $100. So that is easy. And we're here and can be your support group--but the cousins sound nice too. Everyone "should" have family, especially in trying times! Hang in there!
  10. bahahahahaha Berry78! Great point. It's too early on Monday for me to have been that clever! It was a serendipitous mistake as I was begging the dudes to step up and do their part to make this day a little more fun for me!

    Eating is a chore

I've experimented with a couple of different clear ones. When you freeze stuff it has a tendency to be less sweet--at least to me. Also, if the Premier Protein is too sweet for you, try buying some Peanut Butter Slim (Vitacost -- online) peanut butter powder and mixing it into the drinks. It doesn't have any added sugar unlike PB2 and really cuts the sweetness. I've tried the Syntrax Nectar protein powder mixed with water. You can dilute it as much as necessary. But the popsicles you might want to try with just the normal amount of fluid first. The tendency is for it to settle so you have some dense flavor at the top and it gets more like an ice cube towards the bottom of the stick. Syntrax Nectar: Grapefruit, Fuzzy Navel, Lemon Tea flavors are awesome. Isopure Clear Protein: dilute 50/50 with water and add Sugar Free Koolaid water drops to them. Alpine Punch--50/50 water to protein, add a squirt of Grape Koolaid and a squirt of Tangerine water drops (sugar free). Grape--50/50 water to protein, add 2 squirts of Grape Koolaid. Green Tea--50/50 brewed flavored tea (I love Celestial Seasonings Mandarin Orange or also the Apple Spice) to protein. Adjust sweetness if necessary.

    Eating is a chore

Wish I could take credit for this bright idea. But the vets here do it and so I've experimented so that I know what to do when the time finally comes! They taste great. I especially love the grapefruit Syntrax Nectar and the bomb pops.

    Eating is a chore

Yes, this is true...but try making popsicles out of Premier Protein. I love making bomb pops with 1/2 bananas and cream and 1/2 chocolate. That way, you change up the texture, you change up the delivery system. And, you can make them the size that is perfect for you. Need a 2oz pop? No prob. Can handle a 3oz pop--cool! Also make protein popsicles out of Clear protein shakes. I love the frozen grapefruit and also lemon tea and fuzzy navel from syntrax nectar.

    On word...fudgeeeeeesiclessssssss!
  16. From a pre-surgery outsider looking on, this sounds like a lot of food for so soon after surgery? Maybe the soup and tofu are sliders though?

    slowing weight loss

@ebroms17 ((hugs)) Sorry for your frustration! I'm terrified of this exact situation. You revise your entire digestive system and yet, the loss isn't the fantasy loss you see on t.v. of 15-20-25 lbs. I know this is unrealistic to expect--especially every month as others have mentioned. But still, when was the last time you've lost 31 lbs in 2 months? Right? That's outstanding. Congrats to you!! What are you eating right now? Maybe list a day or two of your meals? Maybe cleaning up your eating and looking at what you were eating in month 2 would be helpful?

    Hair growing back...different!?

Mine came in curly after chemo. Had not heard it could change color or texture after regrowth from WLS though! How wild and fun!
  19. I'm very careful to use the same pharmacy and I only let my PCP write my script for pain. There is a database that you fall into if you receive narcotics. If you jump from pharmacy to pharmacy, or have multiple docs writing scripts, you run the risk of being flagged in that database. It's possible for you to be banned from receiving any more prescriptions. I forget what that is called. With my drug, I have to have a hand written, signed prescription for the medicine. They will not accept a digital script. I physically have to deliver this prescription to the pharmacy. Sux that so many people have either lobbied to make narcotics the new cause de celeb, or that so many have abused them to the extent that we now have to suffer big brother telling us how much pain medicine we're allowed to take.
  20. Have any of you gained a pound or two or four between one doctor's visit to the other? Were you kicked out the program? My surgeon has me adding calories to bring my pre-surgery diet up from around 600cals (which I set) to 1000cals. Now she said I need to be eating 1500 cals/day--that 1000cals/day was still too stingy for pre-surgery calories. On my second visit, I'd lost 19lbs in the 6 weeks since she last saw me and am approaching being under 40bmi. I'd worked up from 600cals to 1000cals. Now I'm up to 1200cals and I've gained 4 lbs back. The last thing she said to me was not to gain weight. I'm like, "Well duh! I told you the first time that a 1200cal/day diet makes me gain weight." So do I continue to work up to her 1500cal diet and show her what happens with my weight? Or do I go back to eating around 850cals/day and get this excess weight off while I still have time to lose back to my weight level at the last appointment? (P.S. I really don't want to call her office about this if I don't have to.) TIA!
  21. Good for you. Love your attitude and self confidence. Did you already have VSG? Or are you in the pre-surgery stages?

    Pleasantly Surprised - Warning...Positive Blog Entry !!

What a great report. I LOVE happy blog posts! It's very reassuring to me to know that fellow "losers" can get through the first month (which I would hope would be the roughest) with very little issue--or no issue! Congrats!!! Can't wait to read more from your journey!

I did it!!! I'm sleeved my surgery.

Congrats on the surgery! Sorry you had that scare with the bloody drain and missed your daughter's surgery. I guess I'm the opposite of you, I will be like, "You sure you don't want to keep me an extra day?" LOL! I want that security of knowing I'm with peeps who actually know what the hell is going on, rather than me who has a huge imagination! Hope you continue to progress quickly!! So glad you're happy about the surgery.

8 WEEKS OUT TODAY - FIRST SICKNESS

Yay for the great report!!! Ugh though, sorry about your puke! That is a bummer. (Note to self: Learn from mama3brtn's experience! Don't eat too much or too fast! Always weigh and measure!) What is this "ThinkTurkey" of which you speak?
