Frustrated because of stalled weight loss

I hear there are expected stalls: 3 week stall 3-4 month stall 6 month stall 9 month stall Maybe you are just in one of those stalls? I'd probably be tempted to go back to posting religiously and weighing and measuring to make sure I'm not eating more than I think. I also would try reducing cals by 10% and upping my protein portion of my day just to see if that helps. If it doesn't, then I'd maybe try the opposite! I'd try adding 100 more calories of protein to the day. Sorry you're stalled. They SUCK so badly! ((hugs)) Congrats on your success!!!
  2. Lovely! So to both @redhead_che and @KimTriesRNY - can I ask please? Do you remember the quantity you were eating at 6weeks? What did your day look like? Thanks for the meatball recipe! It's almost the same as my dad's recipe but with different spices! How cool is that?
  3. I really loved his distinction of 2 groups: those who've dealt with lifelong obesity and don't know what it feels like to live life as a normal sized adult. And those who were once thin and deal with adult-onset obesity. I'm the former and OMG. Is my outlook different from those who were formerly thin! I also loved how he advised that we do really have to examine our relationship with food and its importance in our life. My struggle IS to de-prioritize its importance without completely conducting an exorcism. I don't want to get to the point where food is ONLY fuel. I'm hoping their can be a balance. But maybe that's just my fat brain telling me lies still? Dunno. But I'll figure it out in this coming year.

    Face to Face Friday

Holy crap! Who are you? And more importantly, what have you done with your old man? Congrats dude!!!!
  5. Wow! Love the sound of your day! So about how much food by volume are you eating per meal? And will you please share your protein-bitchin recipe for those meatballs please? They sound fabotastic and I want to make some!! I also love the sound of your kale smoothie. I am excited to start doing mine again. I use spinach, and frozen blueberries with a scoop of Isopure Bananas and Cream PP--but any kind will do! I also love fiber one! I add slivered almonds to a mixture of 2% cottage cheese/Grk yogurt and frozen blueberries. So satisfying and keeps me full for hours!! Thanks for playing! I'm gonna check out Pinterest High Protein Meals for sure!!

    Excited but Scared

This is soooo soooo normal. It's our fat brain trying to keep us down on the farm with our old relationships with food and the stuff that got us to the SMO ball. ((hugs)) You gotta do the head work and really answer some tough questions to yourself. You could also start now and work with a counselor that specializes in bariatric care and food addictions. In the end, you have to consciously put your fears aside and make the choice to take a step out in faith. Get the surgery. And you will see, how silly your fears were. After the surgery, things for me were VERY VERY different. So much easier. Easier than I ever imagined and now I wonder why on earth I put this off for 2 years. I could already be at goal. You'll get there. Keep working at it. It is a job. It isn't easy, nor is the surgery a short cut. It's simultaneously the easiest and the HARDEST thing I've ever done!

    Almost a month

Yogurts and soups will NOT help you doll. They are slider foods and won't fill you up! They pass through your new anatomy very quickly. The denser and more solid the protein or veg. The more texture they have, the more filling it is and the more it stays with you. If you're hungry, eat more protein - dense protein. Try a hb egg and a cheese stick. Almost impossible to be hungry after that meal/snack at 1 month. You probably won't be able to finish it. If a hard boiled egg doesn't sound good to you? Then it's head hunger, rather than true hunger. Also, when hungry, try water loading. Sip your water quickly until it fills your tummy up. Then wait a minute or two until you can hear it draining, and then continue to take a sip-wait, sip-wait, sip-wait. Then reassess your hunger in 20 minutes. Works almost ALL the time for me! Plus it helps you get your fluids in. So many of us mistake thirst for hunger! Hope that helps!!
  8. Good Lord! The difference for me in limiting carbs to low glycemic veggies and some low glycemic berries is night and day. I'm VERY carb sensitive. So if I start eating that sh*t, I will start craving crunchy, salty, snacky food--or pasta, rice, potatoes, etc. I would eat them preferentially over anything else! As the others have advised, clear all crap from your home or give your hub a locked cabinet to store his crap in with instructions not to eat it in front of you!!! Then I'd honestly just use Atkins Diet to start stepping down and cold turkey your diet to a low carb one. Once you've been on Atkins and are feeling better, you "may" have some leeway to introduce low carb equivalents of the things you crave EVERY ONCE IN A BLUE MOON. If you do them every day? Your monkey will be back on your shoulders riding you. I've seen it too many times in almost 20 years as low carb. Once you've adapted to a low carb life then you can tailor your diet to meet your specific needs. BTW, Atkins isn't high protein and doesn't have to be high fat. You can use only enough fat to make stuff cook right. You can follow your doc's prescription for how much protein per day, serving sizes, veggies etc. Chiefly it's just a plan to limit carbs to 20g a day while giving you adequate protein for your individual needs.

    November sleevers here

Dang I hear y'all on the hair stuff. This will sound gross, but I've started putting it into a messy bun after washing and drying it and then I don't touch the main part. Just the small areas that wrap up and around it -- to smooth it. That way I'm not brushing it daily. I'm only washing it once a week. And I'm an old white chix. LOL! My young me is rolling in her grave at this omission! I think I may have officially become my mother?

    Feeling devastated

    It'll go quickly!
  11. Here's mine! I'm 6 1/2 weeks post-RNY surgery. I'm cleared to eat regular foods (even raw veggies and salads--hooray)!!! I'm supposed to shoot for 60-80g of daily protein and let the other macros fall where they may, and that's all the advice my RD gave. She said using protein drinks will help meet my protein goal. She also said that would take 3 meals + 2-3 snacks to do that and for now, that's ok. Portion Size: 1/2c by volume (about 1.75-2oz protein + .5-1oz veggies by weight) First Brekky: Protein Coffee (about 6oz Premier Protein RTD mixed in decaf with Miralax and 2 colace pills) - 15g P Second Brekky: Egg White Scramble with spinach, mushrooms, turkey sausage crumbles and Laughing Cow Lt Cheese Wedge - 12g P Lunch: Chopped Salad with BH blackened turkey breast and hb egg (red fat feta, baby spinach, shredded cabbage, cucumbers, rbp, grape tomato, WF Italian Dressing - 10g P AS: 1/2 HB Egg, Hillshire Farms Naturals Black Forest Ham; 6g lightly salted almonds; 6g Utz Pork Rinds - 14g P Dinner: 2oz Grilled Salmon; .5oz grilled asparagus; .25oz avocado; 1oz grape tomatoes - 14g P Vitamins + Water (120+ floz) Daily Nutritional Ave: 505 cals; 65g protein; 23g fat; 22g carbs (incl vits); 9g fiber (incl vits; 11g net carbs; 3g sugar

    Twilight

I think a lot of us have "sorta twilight" anesthesia these days. Propofol is used on a lot of us. And it results in quicker waking and gets out of our system quicker. The scary side of this, is that many people under propofol can respond to requests for things like "Move your fingers, squeeze my hand." That sort of thing. I have had it each surgery and do great on it. Wake up chirpy and talking and is if I've never been "out."

I agree it was much, much harder before surgery than after. I would serve him dinner and just go in the other room and do stuff like talk here, or do dishes. That way, his life would be normal--since it was me having the surgery. It was up to me to control what I could or couldn't handle. You know?

    Things moving so fast!

I had the same thing. The seminar, the questionnaire/intake. The meeting with the surgeon and 1st physical and discussion. Then scheduled all of my appts within the first 2 weeks basically. That only left doing 6 months consecutive RD appts and making my f/up visits with the surgeon. I met with the RD every month and the surgeon every 6 weeks. They explained that she wanted all the information she could get on us early in the process in case we were not gonna be good candidates for surgery. Time passed very quickly despite my eternal whining about delays! LOL. Good luck and welcome to the boards!!

Oh yeah. Maybe that is it? Also if you're up in the mountains and have little access to a big hospital, that may be problematic too. Damn, I don't even wanna think about the gas in the shoulders post surgery and high altitude. LOL! Ouchy!! Oh btw, Gas X strips were a life saver to me post surgery for bowel gas that happens naturally as part of the surgery. The wind usually dies down for people. But post surgery gas is different. It's the stuff they pump into your body outside of the bowels to separate the lining of the stomach from your viscera so they have room to work. It will migrate to your chest, and shoulders after surgery and cause chest, back, and shoulder pain as well as a distended abdomen.

Because your argument that A equals B is a false assumption. I just illustrated it. I took Zantac + Omeprazole and STILL had EGD evidence of GERD disease and inflammatory changes which occur over time. LOL. This is a forum. People have MANY, MANY differing opinions. This is not the Lollipop Guild where everyone mimics and reflects each other with rainbows and unicorns. You were ranting about your insurance and seeking people who could sustain your position. But your position is an erroneous one. I can see why your insurance would deny your claim. Unless you can support your position with empirical recent evidence, then you could "theoretically" just be making it all up. Despite the history you have, you are not currently showing signs of disease per the EGD.

I don't think there is a spouse board, but Welcome and post often in my opinion! You will learn so much here. I know I have -- and continue to learn daily. How come you have to be in the hotel for 10 days? People who go down to Mexico don't even hang out that long post surgery and most of those have an air trip home! I was out of the hospital (RNY) literally within 24 hours--gone by 11:30am so I avoided a 2nd day hospital charge. And was up walking at home (1 1/2 hours away) that same day as soon as we got home. I went back for a 1 week, 2week, 1month, and will go for a 3month, 6month, 9month, 12month check up. The drive will be way cheaper than 10 days of hotels and being cooped up in an unfamiliar bed/territory. My recliner chair made sleeping so easy and comfy. No way would I have been comfy in bed or on a couch. And having my own things around me made it easy. I really commend you for supporting your hubs and not eating in front of him, especially on the pre-op. I made dinner for my non-bariatric DH during pre and post op despite being on liquids. I enjoyed it. I view that I'M the one getting the surgery. No one's life should have to change because of my decision. So everyone eats their normal routine around me and I'm perfectly ok with that. It's life as usual. But DH is on a weight loss plan with me -- by choice, and it's just the two of us. I think the best thing Mr. F. has helped me with is just being a mental/emotional support system--allowing me to talk and process with him as a sounding board. He's verbally affirming, and shows emotionally and physically that he appreciates my efforts. He's one of my cheerleaders. When I am struggling with head stuff, he's there to help, but isn't pushy about it. He walks with me and is helping me increase my physical endurance. And we do fun stuff together again--outside the house that is not food motivated. Hope those ideas help you! Again, please post often!

Sorry to say, but your argument has holes in it. Zantac won't necessarily preclude showing esophageal erosion or reflux. LOL. I'd been on Zantac, and omeprazole for literally years and years lol, and my EGD showed pre-cancerous changes in the esophagus and duodenum as well as gastritis in the stomach--despite medicating morning and night.

1 week post op feeling terrible

I swear, being hydrated is the key to feeling good and healing fast. Neither @Creekimp13 nor myself had issues with food advancement or I think exhaustion. And I took her advice and treated the fluid like a job. I woke early (to take a medicine) and began drinking early 4oz per hour in the beginning. I would alternate as she suggested with protein drinkings and non-water liquids on alternating hours. And by the first day home, I had gotten in 64oz of liquids (over half of that was coming from water). I'm sorry you're struggling. ((hugs)) If you were heavy into carbs and sugar pre-surgery without going through the Atkins or keto flu, it's also possible, that part of your extreme fatigue is your body converting from being a carb/sugar burner to being a fat burner (which you want). It's a miserable 1-3 week ordeal but once you're through your energy rebounds as long as you don't revert to being a sugar burner again.
