    Hospital denied my insurance

Jeeze! I'm sorry you're going through this. The whole insurance approval and hospital approval thing was maybe the WORST and most stressful part of the whole pre-surgery/surgery show. Hope you get it figured out!
  2. Just make sure you work closely with your endocrinologist, surgeon, and RD and understand all the risks/benefits of the surgery. Have you post-op plan on board BEFORE you ever go into surgery.
  3. I had an RNY with absolutely minimal pain. MINIMAL! LOL. I would tell myself, "Breathe, and relax...this will go quicker than you think and you're blowing things out of proportion. No reason to work yourself up over this. It's a cake walk."
  4. So maybe this is a sign to reign in your calories again? Although for a guy who exercises as much as you do, 990-1150 seems reasonable, maybe even a little low? I'm at 9 weeks now and I am finally able to feel my restriction. In the early days I could not really tell if I even had any. @PinkMints are you following the rules of surgery? (And what did you have done?) No eating or drinking 30-30? Proteins first (the denser the better), dense fibrous veggies, some fats, low glycemic fruit?
  5. I still have between half and a whole protein drink per day. I use it as coffee creamer and to make iced coffees.

    Post op

Walking, drinking my clear liquids, and Gas Z strips (it won't help the shoulder pain, but did help my gut gas).
  7. Ode to Toasted Almonds Hail! Toasted almond! Your salty crunch delights me My tongue leaps with joy!

    Amazing NSV

Wahhhooo! What a cool NSV! Congrats on your hard work paying off!!
  9. Awww! Thank you! I decided on capris and I might even need a jacket. High of 80 but going down to 55 tomorrow night. The park gets a big breeze.

    Stomach healed

RD said technically they consider it healed at the 3month mark.
  11. Oh also, check your food for hidden sugars! Check your protein drink for sugar and carbs! Check your vitamins for sugars. If you are consuming lots of things with small amounts of sugar that's not good and you need to find replacements for them. I think I saw on Big Ward where a patient wasn't losing and was having 2 huge smoothies a day, come to find out each smoothie had an outrageous amount of sugar and carb in them...she changed it out and began losing again!
  12. Stalls suck, period. ((hugs)) Hang in there, follow your doc's plan. Don't deviate. Log your food. Plan your meals for the day. And if remotely possible limit the scale time (not possible for me, but maybe you will be more successful! hehe). The 3 week stall usually happens anywhere between week 2 and week 4. Make sure you're getting your fluids in and walking each and every day!
  13. Congrats on your upcoming surgery! My recovery was very, very smooth and on track. I made sure to follow my surgeon's orders and had no issues drinking (getting fluids in) or eating. I drink about 120fl oz a day. I think that makes a difference. When you're dehydrated, there is usually more nausea and also your new tool isn't "slippery" and things get stuck more. Here's a thread we started for people who don't like to cook. I see it all the time--people eating on plan post-op and not cooking anything other than to nuke something. It would drive me bat-sh*t crazy, but it sure is convenient not having to cook!
  14. Can you move the date of surgery up a week?
  15. Very cool to have this info!! Yes, my water consumption is really important to the losses! Also sodium intake has a big impact. Oh man I'm facing the decision today about whether to wear a pair of shorts and a short sleeve tee in public or not. Tomorrow will already be hot at the ball field! I haven't worn shorts in public in almost 20 years!!

    Just starting out

Welcome Cara! I think being a T1, you will need to work very closely with your doctor and RD about managing the amount of insulin you will need to cover meals! But it should really help you to lose the weight and bring your med needs down! Good luck and let us know how we can help!

    My Journey

Welcome! Looking forward to watching your journey!
  18. I average about 3lbs/week since surgery.
  19. Just thought I would drop in and update on how the extra 200-250calories are fitting into my day. On Saturday my RD strongly encouraged me to add in more calories/protein. She told me that they rarely like to give caloric targets but know I'm a "special case." *snic* And as I already mentioned, she was a little teensy weensy concerned about the whole 500calorie threshold where I was a little stuck. I met with her yesterday and she agreed that I don't need to artificially "pad" my diet with fat just to get my calories to 800-850 per day. I explained that I'm already eating 6 small meals a day (and she is totes on board with that -- eating about 3 to 3 1/2hours apart) and that I feel maxed on volume at this time of recovery (9 weeks). I explained that I wanted that 800-850 level to be organically driven and for my days to fluctuate naturally according to different food choices. Some days might be "richer" and more calorie dense, others will be clean. I actually prefer eating clean and my body seems to respond better with that type of fiber rich, lean protein and veggie, low fat approach. I think that has to do with my post meno status, PCOS, and my hormone blocker cancer drug. So since Saturday I've been averaging around 725 calories per day and around 68g of protein per day. And as many of you suggested--the weight loss started again! I've lost about 1lb per day for the last couple of days. Maybe my body is sighing in relief and saying, "About dang time bi*ch!" I know that my meals are satisfying me, and I now feel tummy restriction upon eating. So those are both reassuring things! She said I'm eating textbook perfect amounts and that I should not worry just because I'm able to eat more than someone else at my same stage--we all have different levels of inflammation, rates of healing, amounts of leptin/ghrelin, amounts of physical stretch in our tummies. So no two will be alike. This made me feel more reassured and confident. She also said my goal of 150lbs is a little on the low side, but still should be realistic. However, more than the scale reading, I need to be confident in the physical and life changes this weight loss will mean to me. BS to that. I want both!

Feeling like my life is over

    Great post Matty!
  21. They are very motivated to get their surgeries done. You wouldn't be this far along if the doc didn't want to do surgery on you and feel you will benefit from it. They only want good outcomes too...

    Frustrated

Hey girl, just fyi, but Jimmy Moore has a very public struggle with massive over eating. I've read him for years and his serving size is ridiculous. It's well documented that protein over the adequate range can be converted to glucose in the liver by about 50% or so. Just putting that out there. IDK Shawn Baker though.

Feeling like my life is over

((hugs)) It's easy to feel overwhelmed in your situation. Just stay focused on the immediate next task and try not to let your mind wander to the "what ifs" and future. Take those baby steps and now you know about this issue, you can stay on top of it with your doc. Drink that water!!!
  24. Ouch! How frustrating! Sorry you're going through that! Be the squeaky wheel! Also if you have MyChart or anything, drop a note to the doc...explain that you only have 2 days in May...
