  1. WTG! Congrats! Learning the ins-and-outs of "living normally" and discovering your new normal is such a freeing experience isn't it? We're learning so many new rules pertaining to dining. We basically order for one and I usually add some kind of "side" thing. So dang cheap! Then I rob some of DH's plate to fill my saucer out a bit. Here's what we do on Mexican. Most stuff in Texas is served with either refrieds of borracho beans. I prefer borracho's. So hubs will order a plate. And we'll tack on either a side of pico or a side of guacamole, or side of extra avocado. So I'll steal about 1 oz of his chicken or beef from dinner, his borracho beans, and about 1 tbsp of Mexi rice for the beans. And I'll have about 1oz of guac. I also bring a small bag of pork skins so I can use them to dip salsa and queso (legally). Or for more carbs you could bring a couple of beanito chips. But that's for later once you're past purees. In the early days I stole his refried beans (no rice) and had a bit of guac. Was perfectly happy with the one meal and side!

    Curious question?

I never knew. I just knew it existed and partly because it did, I chose not to be that girl. I knew I only wanted 1 surgery. And if my doc did DS, I may have just gone for the gold right then. But she didn't. So I chose the next GOLD standard--the RNY. I'm a one and done kinda girl. No regerts.

    Interesting article

I was hornswaggled and bamboozled away from the primary argument and transported, LEVIOSUM, to the dimension where you're tugged into the bullying bs. (And I've no doubt there is a need to get down on REAL bullying, especially to kids in school and on the internet.) Sigh. I'm about as sick of this #bullytoo stuff as I am the #metoo stuff. Sorry. Color me insensitive. Apologies in advance. Anyone with four eyes (like Harry and me) can see that JK Rowling does not portray fat people well. She may very well have a bias against us. Who the frick cares? You do you. I'll do me. Didn't like the writer at all. Plus she KNEW that she could pick a bone with 'em and probably was going for the free rides at Universal angle for being thrown off HP...
  4. Beautiful area! I had friends who lived in Belton and my nephew did his med school at Temple Scott & White. Love Marble Falls too. We had my niece's wedding at Escondido. So. Much. Fun! We're going to be on River Road in June at my sissy's place!!! OMG. It's one continual party in the summer! And will likely go to the Grist Mill one night for dinner. I will wave to you! Prolly won't go to Gruene Hall, but will look at it and remember my college days there! Haha on enhanced hair!

One year later! Update and Photos

I always had straight as a board hair and tried to perm it for fun in my 20s. I was always envious of you curly headed chix! It went awry and didn't end well. Then fast forward to 50. And after chemo mine grew back curly! It's now straight again, but it has more wave and body than it used to. So can't wait to see yours and hear if it changed any! Maybe your's will come back in straight?

    Post surgery struggles

Weight loss isn't linear. It's hard to accept that, cuz stalls suck! You've lost about 2.67lbs per week. Average loss post surgery is anywhere between 2-4lbs per week. My doc says don't fret. In the end, everyone gets there around a very similar time. The ones that start early with a bang really taper off about midway and the ones who are slow and steady eventually catch them. Hang in there. Find a good plan online. There are so many you can Google and read about--one that works for you and then come here and post often! Also, I second books like Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, etc.
  7. Ok y'all. Ima tell on myself! I'm not an angel. I have tested things! But when I do, my tests NEVER EVER EVER end well! And by well, I mean, I stop eating and feel "good" like I had a healthy nourishing meal. Instead, I feel remorse like, "You stupid tool! Why did you just eat that crap? It makes you feel all squidgy bad inside like your mouth just molested your new pouch with food porn." And it ALWAYS makes my breastbone hurt! I also think, dammit, I coulda had salad and grilled X and felt great about my meal. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid! Today, we went to clean part of our storage unit for a garage sale on Saturday. So we stopped at Burger Barn for linner. And I decided it was a good time to try wings. Is there ever a good time to try wings? These were unbreaded, extra crispy, and nekkidy with garlic parm sauce on the side. We also got an order of bacon wrapped cheese jalapenos (unbreaded but deep fried). None of these were particularly greasy, so they clearly fry at the right temp. But I had the tiniest bwjalapeno, like 1/2 of a normal size. And started the remorse then. I ate it. But after was like. Just stop now. But did I? Fu*k no! I had 1 wing joint. Of that I ate 1 bite of the skin, then pulled the rest off and ate the tender, moisty and succulent meat inside. And that was it. Lights out for me. No mas. No bueno por nada! And it didn't make me feel good. I did not experience that loving feeling. Instead I just felt remorse and longing for a missed opportunity to eat my tried and true healthy food in a meal. It was totally craptastic. I now have pain at my breastbone and feel like I have indigestion from hell. I won't be repeating the meal. The interesting thing is, I call my new pouch, "Iron Will" cuz it's virtually indestructible and rarely complains. The ONLY time it has complained is when I've tried out former delish pub food or crap food. Then it raises a ruckus and sits up large and in charge to let me know not to eat that sh*t again! Honestly, I don't know how many more times I have to learn the lesson. I do much better with all the fresh and lovely, low fat, healthy veg and protein foods I eat every day! DERP!
  8. I'm only slightly pink. And it will turn to tan, even on lymphedema arm. But I never get really truly dark. I ket lots (more) freckles! We're coming to the hill country in June and then hopefully again in July to a different area. We spent most summers at the Frio! Woot! *********** Thank you and glad you're here! Hope you'll post often! Central TX and red hair and freckles is tough!!! Where in the Hill Country? No burn, just a little heat "tiredness" not even exhaustion. Just a stupid stupid move on my part. The shakes will be over soon. I still do 1/2 of a PP per day. I use it as coffee creamer and love it!!! I probably will still be doing it next year! It makes it easier so I get to eat 2-2.5oz of protein at a meal and have more room for veggies! Your broth sounds lovely. Greek yogurt leaves me too hungry. So I don't eat it often. Sometimes as dessert with SF choco syrup and low fat PB powder, but that's not too often. I do find it best to weigh daily. There was a study that says daily weighers lose up to 15% more weight than those who don't. I find it truly keeps me honest and on my toes. But the down side is it can be aggravating! ((hugs))
  9. For me, there isn't a soul satisfying eating experience where I lean back, loosen my belt, and sigh with "happiness." My goal theoretically is to stop eating EXACTLY at the point that I realize my hunger need is met, but before I feel the pressure at my breastbone. I honestly don't want to feel that "new fullness" because it's pretty uncomfortable. So I'm trying to learn the value of a new reward. I'm trying to incorporate that my new normal is the sense of pride that I take in eating a beautiful, healthy meal with the specified portion weight and stopping when hunger is absent. I get double points for accurately assessing how much to put on my plate for the meal and for meeting my protein goal for the meal--which hopefully will mean I make my protein goal for today.
  10. How terrifying about your son!!! As a mom that would scare the crap outta me! What did you end up doing? Did you go to the care tent? How did you get him to feel better? (Can I just tell you Murph is soooo dang cute!) Well, I'm thinking it may just be the smoothies. So today I'm going back to my tried-n-true menu. And no green smoothies. I think I may just still have so much hyperinsulinemia floatin' around that I can't do it, even if it is only a small amount of berries and frozen spinach--the protein drink itself lends some insulinogenic properties too. More so than just eating. But, it may be the extra walking and PT. So am being careful for the next couple of days to see if I spot a trend. I'm thinking the lentil soup and maybe the peaches and cc are probably doing it for you?? But you know, there are just hungrier days and leaner feeling days. Usually I get super hungry when I'm about to drop a couple of pounds, but things that make you go hmmm.

    Stall- need advice

Are you drinking alcohol or having any desserts? Is sugar back in your diet anywhere? Are your protein drinks low carb?

    Stall- need advice

Do you weigh/measure/log your food? How much protein are you getting each day? How many cals in a day? Maybe post your average food for a day or two? Are you drinking? Are you having any cheat crap foods--even a bite or two? Are you eating/drinking together? Are you focusing on dense protein first>>>low glycemic vegges second>>>tiny bits of healthy fats third>>>low glycemic fruits last if there is room?
  13. IKR???!!!! What a dumbass! I am feeling better and am eating my 2nd breakfast right now. All's good and will really knock the agua back today!
  14. Well, thought I would check in today. I just pulled an incredibly stupid and bone-headed stunt. I walked for 45 minutes without stopping and used an unknown trail by one of our big drainage ditches where there's a trail, but no shade. I wore thin ripstop shorts and a shell with spaghetti straps and no hat. No sun screen. It was like I was just beggin to die. I didn't notice the toll it was taking on me until I was 25 minutes out--at the end of the trail, furthest away from the house and in full sun. Fu*k me! I did have 3/4 bottle of water, but not enough...so I took it slowly and made it back, but dayum, shazam!! It looks like summer is here in full-measure and I'm going to have start walking about 2-3hours earlier. I now have a headache and am a tiny bit nauseous. So I am hydrating and sitting under a strong fan. And will take it easy to assess how much of a tool I actually was. But it could have been bad. Luckily, I'm keeping fluids down and will eat as soon as I know I'm hydrated enough. I may just have to suck back a PP and call it a meal. Also, the scale continues to make me it's little bio*ch this week. Still at 188.2 today (down from yesterday a tiny bit). Am eating great. Had a starvin' marvin day yesterday and actually ended up eating 2 dinners! I had like 96g of protein and 855 cals for the day. LOL. At least it was all legal food, just way, way, wayyyyyyy too much protein for me. Don't know what got into me. I wasn't craving anything other than meat (ie chicken, beef, fish, shrimp, hb eggs, whatevs, just wanted dense protein). Maybe I would have had a visit from the Whoosh Fairy if I hadn't eaten second dinner. Oh well. TTSP. Laters.

    Little Green getting little(r)

Sure it's post-prandial sweetie! Anything after a meal is post prandial, but at 4 hours it's almost pre-prandial too. Cuz at 4 hours you should def. be back to almost fasting levels. Did you feel good at 76? Congrats on being so close and for being able to check all that off your list. I swear it was the easiest surgery. I was like, are you SURE you did anything in there?? I woke up and was ready to go! No big dramatic pain events. A little nausea that the patch controlled. Nothing big at all. I hope that will be the same outcome for you hon! Get past the immediate hump of the surgery recovery and I swear you will only regret not having this sooner. It's such a game changer!!! ((hugs))

    I AM NOT STALLED!

LOL, he was that one magical charismatic kid who somehow knew all the angles and how to win friends and influence people. LOL. I was never that kid. And yes, poor Cameron. (love that actor though). And poor sister too!

    Not Crazy

I think a lot of us have 1 particular sore incision. I know I did. So I think they kinda adopt a wait and see attitude. But the huge diff is that your pain increased over time, as did the redness, the swelling, hardness, and the heat coming off your skin. So yeah, that shouts, look at me, look at me!!! Get me some medicine, I'm infected! But I am also so glad you posted this, cuz that does make others more aware to check their incisions for signs of one going rogue!

    I AM NOT STALLED!

Go! Go! Godzirra! You got this! (Oh and a friend of a friends, aunt's sister-in-law, whose mom's grandmother had RNY surgery last year said that there are 3-week, 3 month, 6month, and 9 month stalls that are pretty well-documented in the WLS communities. hehe...

    KETO

Yes. I don't know how it works with insulin pumps but I am pretty sure he works with patients like that too. Not sure how vegetarian works. He totally takes you off carbs. So it might be diametrically opposed. I think he as a T1, only takes 5units of long acting insulin daily. That's all he needs to cover his food. It's pretty amazing. Seriously. 5units. No short acting stuff at all. He works on the premise that every 10g of whole non-netted carbs will raise bgs 5pts. And that the body has a 24hour food memory. If your beta cells are still producing, they know how much insulin to pump out based on the previous meal from the day before. So if one day you give it a binge full of carbs and the next you are "back on the wagon" and at that meal, you barely eat--you will get an ass load of insulin pumped into your system.
