Out With the Old--In With the New!
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Declaring victory over yesterday! Last night we went out to dinner with sissy and BIL for his birthday. We went to a neighborhood Italian place known for their pizza and pasta dishes. Despite being repeatedly offered wine and a slice of pizza, I had my portobello mushroom with provolone, chicken, roasted rbp, and spinach. I ate 1/3 of it and brought the rest home. I enjoyed the evening with everyone and had so much fun. And came home knowing that it's MORE than possible to have fun while eating luxuriously and healthy. Score one for the gipper! -

Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Rants & Raves
It occurs to me that I didn't make myself clear here. The underline bolded red part was NOT referencing the surgery. It was referencing me ALWAYS choosing the pleasure of the moment when faced with cravings and short term desires over the pain of keeping my focus on the long term benefits of reaching goal and maintaining my weight. Although my RNY surgery was uncomplicated and recovery was relatively easy, this IS the easiest weight loss of my life and by "easiest" I mean that the weight is coming off like a so called "normal" person's weight rather than only 2lbs per month--which for all the effort was always discouraging. But losing weight through WLS is far from EASY. LOL. Actually, this past year has been one of the hardest years of my life second only to fighting breast cancer. Yep. It's FAR from the easy path or easy choice. This path takes DAILY concentration on eating healthy, small portions, and keeping ridiculously low cals. It's taken daily exercise. It takes me fighting inner demons and working on my mental game. It's taken building new relationships with food. It's been HOURS of exhaustive research and reading. And in other words it's taken me being 100% all-in. And I feel like that will become my new normal for the future. But in saying that, I should mention it's also been one of the most joy-filled years too. I'm SOOO much happier now. I just wanted to clarify that I would NEVER EVER categorize WLS as taking the "easy way out." The End. -
Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?

I think I missed something in our debate. This IS the absolute easiest time (honeymoon period) that I will ever experience. And it's still fu*king nightmare hard. *snort* (And btw, am enjoying our socratic discussion. ) -
Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Rants & Raves
True dat. Lucky for me I got up this morning and made the committed decision not to let my self-worth be determined by how much people give a flying crap about my decisions on goal--or indeed, on anything I post here. -
Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Rants & Raves
Of course it's about long term goals, but we are all too often derailed and side-lined by transient pleasure or "treats" that can lead us down the primrose lined path toward rationalization. And I ABSOLUTELY see your point. And validate it. It's right for you. I get ya. I support you. So I just question why it isn't ok and my right to have my point of view and do me, too? Cuz for me, right now...I'm going for the prize. Once I get there, I might decide it's a giant PIA and like the Wizard of Oz, is all smoke and mirrors and no substance. Then I will reserve the right to change my mind. But if I've never seen that goal? How do I know it's not worth attaining? I want to see it just once in order to make an informed decision. I think all of us, ought to give it a hard thought. Cuz don't we all deserve to make a truly informed opinion? And I think to do that, if we choose that road less traveled by, we can't mentally and emotionally let ourselves off the accountability hook by saying, "Ohhhh don't worry, you'll still get a participation trophy even if you are still MO." And I can guarantee there will never be another time QUITE like the first time surgery to get you as far as you can humanly go towards realizing that goal. It will never be "easier" and by easy I in no way infer that this is the "easy" path. But for me, after my RNY surgery, weight loss has never been easier than it is right now in my virgin honeymoon period. And it's still a fargin' corkhole, ice-suckin' bastage lol. All 2-3lbs per week on average. And sometimes 0.6lbs per week. LOL. -
I said, well I'm glad the test is over, does it really take 400 questions to determine how bad of a psychopath I am? And he laughed and said, yes. At the end of our talk I said that I was very relieved to know I'm not a psycho and he said, that I wasn't, but that I wasn't completely devoid of a few "issues" either. LOL. I looked at him, winked, laughed and said, "Ya think?" *snort*

You take some tests to determine if you're a psychopath, and then you chat. I had a great time in mine!

Wow! Terrific work, man!!! Congrats!

Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Rants & Raves
Nice reply! So then here's the next question: If you have spent a lifetime of weighing the risk/benes and have chose the "easy" path that causes you little pain, little inconvenience, and little stress and it ended up landing you here at the obesity ball weighing 287 or 325 lbs...then don't you think there is something wrong with your choices? Didn't Einstein say that's the measure of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and over again expecting a different outcome? Cuz honestly, that IS what has happened to me over the years. I have gained and lost since I was a child. The first times, the regains were only within 25lbs of goal. But EVERY time, I would stop 20-30lbs short of my goal--cuz things got hard and I had to put real focused effort on the goal. And I chose to be swayed by the pizza, the beer, the ice cream. I felt good about myself. (or better) Felt comfy in clothes. Grew complacent. And BLAM!!!! Within weeks or months ALL the weight would be back + 10-15% more of its leetle frien's! LOL. And I yo-yo'd my complacent self up to 325lbs. And while doing that I supremely forked my metabolism. And don't say that doesn't happen here after WLS. Cuz it does. We see it all the time. And all it takes to be a success in WLS is to have LESS THAN a 50% regain at 5 years. But hell! Half of us will be back in either the obese or MO category again if we allow ourselves to regain 50% of our weight that we lost from WLS. I think the number is that as many as 50-85% regain >85% of maybe it's only 80-20. Can't remember... -
Because my primary reason for the surgery was to make sure I max out my 38% reduction in BC recurrence that happens as a result of RNY surgery. And since DS is even more correction, I would have chosen it. Also, cuz my hyperinsulinemia is so bad from the PCOS that I wanted to max my metabolic correction.

Should We Just "Accept Our Best Shot" and Not Be Bothered If We Don't Make Goal?
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Rants & Raves
I think that is the other extreme of course. And yes, I know people like that for certain! But if a goal is to get to the "healthy" range and there is a 5-10lb difference between the goal an RD sets for you and the goal you have--why wouldn't you shoot for the fences? If you find yourself stalled 20lbs short of your RDs goal and you KNOW you're not eating to your full capability and you've allowed "treats" to be come daily things or even at every meal...do you just sit back and lie to yourself? Cuz that's what I'm talking about. Why settle? Why placate and rationalize rather than using this amazing chance at re-writing your future to get to a healthy weight? I'm not talking skinny minny. I'm talking out of the obese or over weight category. At 140lbs I will be "normal" range. I will not by any stretch of the imagination be a skinny minny. LOL. So why would I allow myself to rationalize that it's ok to give up and stop at 160lbs? When I'm still severly overweight? That's all I'm saying. -

OMG! You ARE strong like bull!!! And I'm with @Apple203 on this one. You just gotta roll with it "as compliment." Jeeeeze! I'd start posting new skinny photos on the internet! Since you're already out there as a big girl. Awww! How lovely! I'm off to PT in 2 seconds! Congrats on your yard work and on a beautiful yard! The garden party sounds FAB!!!! And the menu? Hold me. Perhaps one of my faves. -
I have PCOS (lifetime member). It was one of the reasons I had bypass. I'm loving it. Am losing steady but not like lightening. My A1c continues to improve as do other symptoms like BP. My insulin is still high, but I am still VLC (very low carb). So the combination is going to help really well.

FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'll start the party off! I wake up each morning and despite still having lots of chronic pain, I feel energized and ready to meet the day ahead with positivity! Whhoooooooooohaaaaaa! Seriously. I am LOVING (despite all my jiggly puff and cellulite) wearing shorts, and short sleeve shirts (exposing everyone to the horrors of my lymphedema arm that is about 1 1/2 times the size of my normal arm). And I love that it's already eleventy billion degrees outside and I'm wearing these clothes staying cool, and FEELING NORMAL--whatever the fu*k that is! I just think that everyday, I will feel more and more and more freedom. And that makes me feel happy and whole again! Like people aren't staring at me and thinking ugly thoughts in their heads. (Well, they may still be, cuz I'm not a shrinking violet and am a bit of a loud-talker, LOL. But at least I don't hear or see em doing it!) Ok, now you go! Spill it! -
WTG!

Aw man girlie. Jumping the pre-op hurdles suck and are soooooo stressful. Hang in there girl. Nothin you can do but pray. Maybe you could throw yourself on the mercy of the doc's nurses and explain the hold-up. Maybe they would put you on the next available list or fit you in? Sending good vibes!!!

((hugs)) No advice. Scary Larry stuff though! Some might have an enteric coating (requires stomach acid to dissolve it). VSG does cut away some of the areas that produce the most amounts of stomach acid. Also VSG, allows for food to exit your tums much quicker--possibly before enteric coated pills are fully dissolved. So I'm thinking that's why. I know in my doc's practice, she cautions all of her baby-maker patients, to use alternate means of BC. It's mandatory for 18 months with her. On both kinds of surgery.
