    Long term struggles

I think part of success is surrounding yourself with like-minded people who are experiencing success. I so agree with Danny and Sosewsue that the beatings must stop. Experience shows morale NEVER improves under these conditions. I think you have to re-believe you can do this and get hold of things. The first is with utter honesty to yourself and others. So start by making a ticker, posting your stats--take weight and measurments. Then plan, plan, plan. I completely agree with going to see your surgeon and RD for a check-up and to get a new plan. Haul out the old RD plan. And choose the day or meal and simply START. Commit to the one meal. And do it. Commit to limiting snacking and dumping the crap--kick it to the curb. Bring a cheese stick or an ounce of dense protein. And eat it if you feel snacky at first. Then commit to the second meal and third and fourth, then commit to the next entire day...then the next. And it builds up. Success is nothing more and nothing less than tiny, baby, consistent, actionable steps that are repeated daily/routinely. Don't look too far down the road. Stay in the moment and the do the tiny baby step work. The future takes care of itself. Also, never underestimate the power of a good walk to or a good fast workout with sweating and raised heart rate to lift the spirits. Research is showing exercise and getting out in the sun can be as effective as mood elevator drugs -- without the side effects of weight gain. Hugs and hang in there. You've taken the first step. Now it's time to take the next.
  3. Good morning everyone!! How did you do yesterday? Any good word for us? Yesterday was pretty easy. No hunger or deprivation--but come on, with huge meals like the ones from yesterday--how could anyone feel deprivation? But you know...whah! It didn't have cheese or gooey stuff, and wasn't in the form of a casserole! No pasta, rice, bread, or potatoes! The hell??? And it was a "feast day"=holiday. Bet you didn't realize Labor Day was a feast day. Right? LOL. ROFL! I got all of my walking in -- and beyond, but I was gonna do my core exercises and didn't pull it together to do it. This morning as expected after a day of clean eating and drinking lots o plain water, I'm back down a couple of pounds to 163.6lbs. It's not enough of a diff to go change my ticker. LOL. So I will wait until next Monday to change things up for the week. Today is an UD for me which means I get 1000cals. I'll still keep my basic proportions, but will use higher fat items/carbier items to use up the cals. In actuality according to the diet, my UDs should really be about 1200-1400 cals or more. But I can't bring myself to eat that many cals. I'm so afraid of gaining! So I may have to just take baby steps to get back up there so that I'm doing the full UD/DD rotation and getting the best metabolic benefit. *Forgot to mention, tonight is trivia night with our friends at a local wine bar. So I will have one glass of chardonnay and "whoop it up" then have iced tea in a wine glass. I'm so wicked. I used some of my fat for the cals in the chardonnay. Also, I will likely be adding my psyllium husks in to get more fiber and I'll be damned if I'm going to count the calories OR the carbs toward my daily totals goal. LOL. So I'll make my menu, then add it in to try to get higher in fiber. Ohhhhhh the little head games we play with ourselves--and the rationalizations... 09.04.18: Up Day (UD) 1000 cals: 30% Protein (75g); 15%Carbs (38g--total non-net); 55%Fat (61g); 25g Fiber; <15g daily natural sugars Brekky 1: Decaff; Colace; Miralax B2: 2 over-med eggs with sauteed super greens trio, broccoli and mushrooms L: sardines nicoise salad (sans potatoes) AS: mozzarella cheese stick + roasted almonds D: grilled chicken; steamed broccoli with butter; avocado/tom salad BS: Granny Smith apple with FlufferNutter Dip (Vitacost Peanut Butter Slim PB Powder + WF Marshmallow Dip) Vitamins: 2 multis, 1500mg Ca Cit, 18mg Iron + C; 100mg Thiamin; 1000mg B12 subling -- don't count the values into daily totals for cals/carbs. I guess I’m regretting a little...

Ugh. While I do sympathize and validate the feelings expressed here, someone has just GOT to talk about the elephant in the living room with the pink tutu on! Reality check here guys...your brains are totes SCREWED up! I don't know what does it. Maybe it's all the fault of My 600lb Life? Dunno... But OP you've lost 14lbs in ONE WEEK (by your words Aug 21 thru Aug 28--that's 7 days if math serves me). Let me repeat that and shout it out for you: YOU'VE LOST 14 LBS IN ONE FREAKIN' WEEK! Instead of being busted and down, you should want to turn cartwheels. That's amazing! Congrats! Turn that frown upside down and get ready for the very common "3 week stall" that happens somewhere between weeks 2 and 4. You will likely average anywhere from 2-4lbs/week. This is not magic surgery. And WL will never be linear. It's the best thing that's ever happened to most of us. (And for the record? I've NEVER lost 14lbs in one week. EVS.) . I honestly want to ask if you're pullin' our chain? Cuz let's do some more basic math: August 21 - Sept. 4 = 13days. In 13 days you've lost 20lbs. That is WELL over 1lb per day. LOL. That's phenomenal and you can't possibly hope to keep that up. It won't happen. Please read above at the 3week stall phenomenon. You ladies, need to reality check your brains and reframe how you look at this surgical intervention. This is usually about slow steady progress--not huge losses overnight. But some DO experience those dramatic losses. Hell. You are both experiencing it right now. Dig in. Sit back. Do the work and enjoy the ride. Cuz the weight loss WILL happen unless you screw the pooch. And nobody wants to screw the pooch. Congrats to you both. I'd trade places with either of you in a heart beat.
  5. I hear ya on the cooking for one! I usually cook meats ahead, then we have them to eat with different things. Like I'll boiled a pound of shrimp when it's cheap here and freeze them on a tray then bag them. That way I can pull out 2-3oz. Same with chicken breasts and this roast. It was part of a whole loin. So I cut it into about 4inch sections and freeze them. So they make 2 meals + lunch each. Then I only have to nuke veg and do avo/tomatoes. If you pair down any carbs to only low glycemic veg, limit fruit til you know if you have room left and go for lean proteins with almost zero added fat, you'd be amazed at the quantity of food you get for 500 cals! I will admit that I miss my PP in coffee. Since I have 24cals left, I think I will alter my plan to have a decaff with PP in it as my BT snack. Then tomorrow will just have to delay eating until 11:30am. No big whoop.
  6. Ok, so don't know that I will take pics every day cuz I'm compelled to go in and color correct etc. And I don't have time or energy for that. LOL. Here was today's food. I'd post afters but they were clean plates. The thing about being AR is that I know how much I can eat by now. So I only serve what I can eat. I probably won't end up eating the BS cuz I finished dinner at 8pm and it makes no sense to try to eat again in 1 hour. But I did actually have 3.25oz of pork loin. Cals were well under 500 for the day and protein was 67g which is fine. Carbs were under my limits as well and fat was fine too. OMG. I'm such a nerd. Breakfast - Egg White Puff Lunch - Chopped Shrimp Salad Dinner - Roasted Pork Loin with Broccoli Tomorrow is "Toosday" and is an UD. I will attempt 1000 cals that do not include a bunch of crap.
  7. LOL. What's toosday? Hope the colonoscopy went well!!!!
  8. @sillykitty I think you should totes get new girls. Mine is pretty atypical. 🙂 @green tealael that looks so yummy!! So is that a small takeout container and that's all you will eat today? I've said it before--I have restriction envy. I feel like I eat like a horse!!! 😦☹️😢

Damn that's gonna be Wednesday brekky2!!
  11. Haha! Well I have foobs cuz the original pair tried to kill me. Lol so they will stay the same but losses in my chest measurement really measure fat loss in my back and loss of lymphedema fluid in my left side chest. Lol. The PS made me get DD's even tho I wanted smaller ones cuz he said anything smaller would look odd cuz of my size and how wide my chest and shoulders are. I so wish they were smaller cuz I don't have much skin and they are painfully tight.

    Non Scale Victories

Look at you you pretty lady!!! And look at how skinny you are!!!! Woot! You inspire me!!
  13. I'm really looking forward to how everyone does it and seeing any changes and side effects!!
  14. Lol! 1-2 inches isn't significant differences cuz we both probably measure in different areas and with different amount of tension. I have one pair of size 10 skinny jeans I can get on but I can't sit down in or walk in. Lol!! What counts is the pattern of change over time using the same places and same amt of tension. We're probably close to the same size but you have a smaller hiney and legs than I do! 😂
  15. Well, I don't want to go to the extreme, but I'm thinking maybe you have a really hard stool or bad gas moving through? Especially if it comes and goes. But gosh, it could also signal bad stuff too...just watch how you feel today. Maybe see about your #2 train track schedule? If you haven't had a big job lately, maybe it's time to call MOM?

TIPS to get back on track!

For me, it's about mind-set. I get back, wake up, commit to the day. I can do anything for 1 day no matter how hard or uncomfortable. Then I make my plan for the day: food/exercise/work/relaxation with my honey. Then I drink water like a camel! LOL. Seriously. I may drink 6-8 bottles of water worth. Maybe more? Take ALL my vitamins. And the next day, I wake up and commit to the day once more. I do the same exact things. Eventually, I get the fire back. I feel how good I feel, how much better I'm sleeping, and I start seeing scale movement after about 4-5 days. Then it gets much easier.
  17. Ha! Yeah sure, with a linebacker's thunder thighs. LOL. I should go for the Heismann!

  19. Ok, I'll start this. I'm about 6 1/2 months out from RNY surgery. I'm down 123.6lbs from my most recent high weight of 287lbs as of last May 5, 2017. You can see my stats in the signature panel and on the left side of each post. I love my surgery and have few problems--in fact, my pouch is named Iron Will cuz nothing bothers it except a high fat diet--then I will wish I'd died. I'm starting IF because I had amazing results with it before a cancer dx and used it all throughout treatment. It protected my healthy cells and exposed the cancer cells to vulnerability. I am on a cancer drug that causes super-menopause--shutting down as much estrogen and progesterone as possible. So I'm terribly hormone-imbalanced and losing is harder than it should be. I also have thyroid issues that I'm dealing with as a result of life-long PCOS (metabolic disease). I will do a bunch of gyrations with my IF--far more than most would need to do--so don't think "my plan" is the proper way to IF. I think most people don't have to jump through the extreme hoops I have to jump through in order to lose weight and stem inflammation--my ultimate goal. I found ADF using the JUDDDD plan years ago. This doc who developed it was one of the pioneers in modern-day IF. JUDDDD stands for The Johnson Up Day Down Day Diet or ADF (Alternate Day Fasting Diet). You can get the book here. It's a very easy and effective plan and is based in part on the work of Dr. Valter Longo and his SIRT (longevity gene) research. It's based on growing telomeres to counter-balance the effects of aging. The diet also helps reduce inflammation and is very good for asthma/allergies in addition to helping a whole bunch of chronic diseases. Here are my beginning stats. I will weigh in weekly and will add my measurements every month on the 20th. I'm beginning this IF journey on Labor Day 2018. Cuz you know...why not do something fairly hard on a national holiday lol. My personal JUDDD plan will include alternate days of 500cals. The other alternating days will be normal eating patterns between 900-1200 cals. In addition, I will continue my low carb diet and will keep the following macros as much as I can. My plan says that being 100cals one way or the other makes little difference. So I won't sweat being a couple cals or grams over or under. Down Days (DD) 500 cals: 60%Protein (75g); 15%Carbs (19g--total non-net); 25%Fat (14g); fiber where I can; <10g daily natural sugars Up Days (UD) aka Normal Days 1000 cals: 30% Protein (75g); 15%Carbs (50g--total non-net); 55%Fat (61g); 25g Fiber; <15g daily natural sugars Intermediate Medium Day 750 cals: 40% Protine (75g); 15%Carbs (28g--total non-net); 45%Fat (38g); as much fiber as possible; <10g daily natural sugars Alternating Schedule: M-W-Th: DD Sat: MD Fri-Sun: UD Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm also going to be eating within a 14:10 schedule which means, 14 hours fasting (currently considered the optimal fasting/eating window for females) and 10 hours opportunity to eat scheduled meals. I eat roughly 3-4 hours between meals. So I will be available to eat between 11am-9pm keeping roughly the 3-4 hours between meals. 09.03.18 Weight: 166.4lbs 08.20.18 Measurements: Chest 40.5 Waist 32.5 Hips 41.5 Neck 13.5 Right Thigh 22 Left Thigh 22 Right Arm 11 Left Arm (Lymphedema from cancer) 12.5

    Intermittent Fasting

Ok, here's the IF tracking thread. We won't start a new one each week, we'll just stick with the one, that way all the info is there.

    Intermittent Fasting

Ha! You're so funny. More friends...I don't think so Felicia. Ok, I'll go do one and BBIAF.

    Intermittent Fasting

Of course it will still help. And it will be more fun than doing this alone. Other's might join in too. Do you take measurements? I measure every month on the 20th of each month. LOL. You would just post your last weigh-in with the date. Measurements for us now are really more telling about what's going on with our bodies now that we are so close to goal. Ok, I'll go start the thread and come back and link it up here. What should the name be? You want to start it since you really kinda kicked it off here already. I just hate to start posting my stuff here and poop all over your lovely thread about the wholesale discussion of IF and you're personal journey!!

    Intermittent Fasting

@Green Tealael-- Hey girl, I'm starting my first JUDDDD day today. 500cals. I think I will also do 14:10. I'm ditching the Premier Protein in the coffee and have gone back to black and am also ditching the stevia. So with JUDDDD (Johnson Up Day Down Day Diet or The Alternate Day Diet) you cut calories every other day and eat a "normal" plan on the alternating days. I'm pretty excited to try it out again! But I do think I will do 14:10 every day--cuz it's pretty close to what I do normally anyway. I think I'm gonna go back to posting on "My Story" area to track my daily IF experiment and food journal. Instead, would you want to do an IF thread in the Post Op Food area and post our daily food/sometimes piccys?

Knee surgery 6 months after VSG

I know you'll do this, but talk with your bariatric surgeon and RD about this and let them help you find the solution. Then get your orthopedist involved with them. I'd think that you might need to get in 80-100g of protein (maybe) and you'll be good to go. You have probably 14-20lbs of fat that can fuel you on those 2000 calorie needs if you're at least getting lots of protein and healthy fats for healing. Having said that, you can do a lot of "calorie damage" by adding in 2tbsp of peanut or almond butter per day + 1 avocado + lean protein. Just sayin... Hope you don't have to have the biggest of the surgeries!!!
  25. FluffyChix

    low energy

Well, part of it is normal. But I don't get why you can't get your 2 protein drinks down. It's 22oz over 24 hours. It's literally 1oz per hour if you had to? You can always thin them down a little with Fairlife milk if they taste too sweet or are too thick. Remember, they count toward your daily fluid goal. So if it were me, I'd go for protein drinks first until you satisfy your protein goal. I also would add protein drinks to cups of iced decaff coffee. Love me some BananaJoe decaff iced coffee. LOL. It completely cuts how sweet the protein drink is! I had decaf from day 1 post surgery. It also counts toward your liquid goal. I was totes exhausted for quite a while. I still have times when I am. But the things that will add to the tiredness are: 1. Dehydration (not getting as much fluid as you think you're getting). 2. Not getting your protein in. 3. Not taking your vitamins. By your time, I was already taking all my vitamins and getting 60g of protein + 100oz of fluid and I was still a whipped tired-ass pup! Some of it is surgery recovery and recov from anesthesia too. Just keep working on figuring out how to get your protein down. Oh and if cold doesn't work, then add it to hot beverages. Make hot chocolate even. Add it to decaf hot tea to make chai lattes, etc.You can do this!!
