Frustrated with "I know someone who gained it all back" reactions
FluffyChix replied to Basham53's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sorry to say but this is incorrect information. The sleeve was originally designed to be the first step in the DS operation. Not the bypass. It's actually quite complex to do an RNY following VSG. -

Yes I think it's people with hormone imbalances especially: PCOS, peri meno and post meno who seem the most effected. Also people with underlying kidney/liver issues as well. -

So, sadly, this is a reality. The ASMBS places much higher success rates on surgery. But that is because their definition of success is "people who maintain a 50% EBWL over a 5 year period" post surgically. That mean that people regain 10-20% based on their original average expectations of weight loss. I think it's how we choose to perceive and frame these comments. I hear that a lot. And it makes me: 1. Continually aware of the existence of this being a possibility. (AKA Scared Straight! Cuz I think of this potential any time I face a choice to eat calorie dense, emotionally vacant meals--oh I'm talking bout you French Fries & Pizza. It helps reinforce my behavior to eat mindfully with healthy choices. It's not 100% but it's at minimum 80-90% and works for me.) 2. It makes me exercise every day to keep my metabolism up and to not rescind into old slothful habits. 3. It keeps me connected to my support system (support group in real life and online, and to BP forum) + doc + RD + psych 4. It keeps me focused on building new health living skills and having a barihealthylife! 5. It makes me determined to not be a statistic anyone will be able to say about me. I will do anything necessary to be successful by my definition. So you see? Don't waste energy on anger. Turn it to your advantage! Congrats on all your hard work!!!! -

I'm also an advocate for real food. Many of you see my daily menus...and you know I still love my PP in my coffee to replace cream or creamers and it gives me a leg-up on protein for the day so I can have more veg if I want them...but true story... I felt like I started losing more consistently once I got to the real food stage where I was actually eating lean proteins and veg with only a small amount of fat. The protein drinks in quantity really gave me an insulin spike and made losing very slow. Plus they made me retain fluid in my legs and lymphedema arm. Especially the whey protein isolates. It wasn't bad with PP cuz it has both concentrate and isolates. Just thought I'd mention that...so try for patience and see if you start losing better with real food! -

Do you think your dumping kept you from gaining while eating the real sugar items? And now that you are eating sugar free you aren't dumping, so the extra cals are adding up quickly? Or maybe the sugar alcohols are still giving you an insulin spike and maybe you are up 4lbs from glycogen stores + water? I know we have to be very careful of them here. They spike Mr. F's BGs and they do slow down my WL and also make me bloat (gain a couple). So they are a rare treat for me. Sorry about the 6lbs!!! Toss em in Deep Space 9 (your freezer) and forget them. If you can't, then punkin chunkin time!

I think you must eat more. I don't know if your caloric density can go up in your eating window from very deeply healthy foods? (i.e. Full fat yogurt and other dairy, real eggs rather than egg whites, chicken thighs rather than breast, real bacon rather than turkey, real salad dressing on salads with olive oil, fattier cuts of pork/beef/fish/caviar, nuts 1-2oz per day, more avocado, nutbutters). I think you can also shift to a more "maintenance-style" IF where it's basically x number of days you do IF with our without caloric restriction and the other days you eat a "normal" diet with all the calories you need to adjust for those IF days. I'm talking about something like a 5:2 rotation. Also, you will need to configure how much more nutrition you need for training. But honestly, if you've been doing 2-3 pilates classes per day, your running might balance out...dunno...haven't looked at it. But I honestly think you need to eat or you will quickly find yourself in trouble...either bonking or not being able to train to your full max VO2 threshold, or even losing too much weight/muscle. I'm not saying stop IF, cuz it is also my security blanket. But for my still-broken metabolism, I'm maintenancing brilliantly while doing about 3 or 4 days in IF/ADF and the balance of days eating between 1200-1400 cals. Averaging about 1100cals daily. I think you're average is gonna come in closer to the 1800-2000 mark and that's a LOT of food for us. That means if you IF some days, you will end up having to have closer to 2500-3000 cals per day to average to 1800-2000. That sounds great...unless you're getting those cals from booze and sub-par (questionable) nutritional value. Then I think you might be playing roulette with your health down the road. -

Feel better!!! This stuff works great! I get the one that's only extract + glycerin + citric acid (no added sugars that will feed a virus). https://www.vitacost.com/natures-way-sambucus-original-syrup-8-fl-oz-2?csrc=GPF-033674153321&CSRC=PPCADW-DSA+|+All+Pages+-+RLSA-&network=g&keywordname=&device=c&adid=39700035029717555&matchtype=b&gclick=CjwKCAiAmNbwBRBOEiwAqcwwpeiPn3FX0GzkhNl7zf7GDh1BfCQMLwNbuQpXs00SbaUSa3dCHt4kLBoCx1EQAvD_BwE&ds_agid=58700004216393739&targetid=&gclid=CjwKCAiAmNbwBRBOEiwAqcwwpeiPn3FX0GzkhNl7zf7GDh1BfCQMLwNbuQpXs00SbaUSa3dCHt4kLBoCx1EQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

So look, it's an awesome esoteric notion to debate. But here's the bottom line. Your body will only allow you to lose weight at X speed at any point in time. It's based on MANY variables and it's highly individual. You can spew TDEE and CICO stuff out the watoosie. Seriously. And you can rationalize which side of the fence you sit upon. And argue it all day. (ty confirmation bias) But all you're doing is waste energy doing it that could be spent in a better way--like loggin your food so you ACTUALLY have data to help you see where and how you need to trim the sail. But. And it's a big BUT! The bottom line is...if you are not consistently losing weight week in and week out--ESPECIALLY in the early days then you have a problem and it MOST LIKELY resides in how much you are eating or what the "mix" of macros is, OR WHEN or HOW OFTEN you are eating. And that is based on so many personal factors: health, medications, age, hormone status, activity, how much LBM you have to burn, the rate of your metabolism prior to surgery and how much you were eating before surgery versus now PO, allergies, metabolic flexability, etc! So. MANY. Variables! And that is in the absence of stalls...cuz they are a real thing and last as long as they last. We are all unique. Wonderfully so. And the average weight loss post surgery is 2-4lbs per week early on. BUT, usually when the scale isn't moving, then the measuring tape is! So, it truly is ONLY a stall if there has been no movement of the scale or measuring tape. Some docs say it's only a stall if you meet that criterion PLUS it lasts longer than 3 weeks. Otherwise it's not a stall. After losing almost 160lbs...I will honestly tell you, the times I "stalled"=slowed down were the times I wasn't behaving or logging my food accurately--or--OR, I was in the last 20lbs of weight loss. Those pounds were infinitely difficult to lose. -

I guess I think differently. And that's a-ok! Do what works for you. I too found food things (commercials), shows, youtube triggered head hunger and kept my emotional reward/attachment to food active. I'm not saying I'm a saint and never strayed while in WLM or now in maintenance, but I found that using the honeymoon period to completely overhaul and reinvent my behaviors and thoughts about food have made all the difference in my life. I feel free for the first time in my life. And then the even bigger, MORE PRESSING QUESTION...I just gotta be nosy and ask... Why are you 15 days PO and STILL on "bed rest." I would think most docs would tell you to get out of the bed and walk your ass off! Move! Do stuff! Start getting healthy! But that's just me. -
Any dumping? Santa brought me some of the Reese's and the Mint Patties. I am keeping them in the deep freeze so I don't have to walk past them every day.

Google Vitamin K2 supplementation along with vitamins A, D, and E. Vitamin K2 helps transport calcium and fat soluble vitamins to the proper places, and Vit D with K2 is important to make sure calcium gets to the bones rather than the arteries and soft tissues.
