Sophomoreville - A Home For The the Tweeners

Ok, sorry I couldn't get here to post. Hate posting from my phone and was out all day yesterday. Gah! So I don't know what to say to you hon? I do know some peeps with kidney and cardio issues survive on much less than the 48oz our surgeons tell us is the "dead" minimum for us. I think at the end my dad had like a 1000ml limit per day? Or something like that? What I do know is that as we age, we have a tendency not to fully hydrate and we also lose our thirst mechanism. So many old peeps are chronically dehydrated. That causes ALL kinds of health issues especially as it pertains to vitamins/mins/electrolytes. I also know that when we make ourselves drink, we wake up our thirst. Don't know why or how it happens. I can easily forget to drink. But when I do, I'm much, much, hungrier. I also think that it makes swallowing for me harder? Can't substantiate that though. I can now gulp water--if it's roomish temp. But if it's cold, then I have to slowly sip cuz it goes down in big "rocks" or lumps. And I can drink warm water/tea/coffee all day at very hot temps and I just want more and more. Probably the most of my liquid or at least 50/50 is in hot liquids. Cups of hot stuff. The only thing that concerns me about only having 20oz per day, is that humans get as much as 80% of their "water" from foods. And as bariatrics, we're not eating that much! So we have to realize that our fluid consumption has to be thought of independently. What does your doc say about the amount you drink? Great that you have wonderful labs, but also know you're early days for lab crap to really show its ugly face. That can take as long as a couple of years of more? Maybe you're just "special" We know you are, princess! Queen of Cardio! 🦄

bahahahahaha! You're doing this as part of your workout routine to turn flat a*s to a bootilicious kardashian bum, right? You know this is an evil earworm, right? And I'm gonna go to Sally or Ulta today to look at Toppik! Woootttt! I got my hair cut and demi-perm color just to get a feel for whether I need to go full topper! Woot!!!

So the L-lysine are horse pills? Crap!! This is a great question actually! Do you think that maintenance is as varied as all our pre-op liquid diets were? What a nightmare! Are you saying you eat a lot? But that's because you are so diligent about working out like a beast? (BTW, I'd secretly not so secretly like to be you when I grow up. )

Thanks for the mask idea! Will def have to ask my hairdresser about if it's even safe to use the flatiron. The good thing about a hair topper would be that if I could find a "rooted color close to that, then I wouldn't have to worry about roots growing out. It would only be Mr. F's problem then! hahaha

Wouldn't that be lovely if you're able to maintain the moderation thing?! I have nowhere near enough restriction at this point for reason. LOL. I already know this about myself. *snort* You can post what you want here or in the IF thread. You know that. You won't lead us down the primrose path girlie cuz I think we all know that we each follow our own plans that are working! And love that the IF and mindfulness can work with you!!! So glad it's at a standstill or growing!!! Embrace the flyaways. My doc said add zinc, but dunno if that's true or not. Will tell more once have the endo appt. What hairmask did you buy? I want a flat iron but am terrified of them for now. LOL. My pony tail without my little hairpiece is like the size of a dime. So damn pitiful. It used to be over 1 1/2 across! Swearsies. My temples are a tiny bit bare but most is all the way in front and top to my crown. Sigh. I get ruddy too. I was thinking ash with some kind of lighter highlight (chunky style). Like this girl's hair in back...
  10. I think you're doing just purrrrrrrr-fectly. And yes! Yes! YES! Am I shouting? The relationship part is as important even more important sometimes than the sex stuff! How often do you guys get to see each other? I think you're totes right about the meeting Mom thing! There is no casual in meeting Mom! LOL! Congrats on keeping 20lbs of crazy stuffed inside a 5lb coffee can. You can spread the cray here all day! We I live for it!

Oh, you're in--whether you wanna be or not! Hahahaaha!!! So have you figured any kind of hair product or treatment that is helping your hair look revitalized? Have you checked out any Aveda stuff? And welcome! So glad you found us!!!! Woootttt!!!! Congrats on your conversion and healing like a champ!!!

Congrats on the maintenance phase girl!!! Woot. Did you honestly think you would ever get here? What are your thoughts on implementing maintenance? Do you have a game plan or are you just starting research on it? I totally get the whole "no restrictive plans"! I hope given enough time I will one day heal enough not to be so forking carb sensitive. It's not that I don't love eating LC, and with Mr. F's T2, we will always need to maintain a little bit more strict focus, but it would be nice to have a weekly or bi-weekly (is that 2times per month) plan where we could have one meal and of being bad without it damaging our mets more. I think you will TOTALLY find that given how you are eating with balance now and yet, you are still losing. That gives me much hope for your maintenance outlook. Is your hair growing back now or just at a loss standstill? I had hoped mine was growing back, but I think it's just breaking. Have endocrinologist appt next week to see if he can help. Ugh! I literally lose a paddlebrush full of hair each hair wash. I'm so bald on top and in front I want to cry when I look at it down. I swore after bald chemo I would never go short again. Even if I have to buy a full head of new hair! Do you like that style/color?
  13. I just saw this on "the FB" and thought I'd share. I needed a reminder.
  14. FluffyChix

    So Many Thanks!!!!

Congrats!! I'm pretty convinced that hydration may be the single most important predictor of how easy/difficult things go for you during the 4-6 month healing phase. Just MHO.
  15. FluffyChix

    Advice is greatly appreciated!

No experience to offer, just hugs. Such a nerve racking time! Congrats on the band to bypass!
  16. Haha this looks like a sexy thread now since I added my first topic of mourning concern - wig toppers. She looks like quite the sex kitten. I'm going to practice that look all day and meet Mr. F. at the door with it. I call it "come hither."

Ok, first subject for me here is: dun dun dunnnnnnhhhhhhh! Hair Loss. Yes, I'm finally facing up to the fact that I'ma need to either join the HairClub for women or am gonna need to start askin' Santa for a wig topper. *sob* *bigger sobs* *sniffle*. Ugh, I so didn't want this to happen, but it has and frankly I'd rather be thin than have full hair! "No regerts." I think this "sitchi-ation" is beyond the scope of TE, and won't take added biotin. I am gonna try adding a bit of zinc although my multi has it already. Here's what I'm looking at--wish I could afford real human hair... In this color (but I'm afraid it might be too red), then I would just maybe do semi-permanent color on my real hair to sorta match this? Thoughts? Anyone had to deal with this already and have any experience with toppers? Are synthetic heat friendlys sucky?
  18. Hey FYI, I made a Sophomores thread for anyone who is probably 6-9 months and beyond including all VETS- if you are interested at all! It's just a place to hang, talk about important and unimportant things. Come join? It's just me and the crickets--and maybe @Matt Z (aka Van Wilder aka Ed Burns) if he decides to hang with both the Vets and Sophomores.
  19. Oh you know I need wiggle room with my bad self!!!

    Surgery CANCELED!

I don't know nothin' bout hiatal hernias. But 4cm actually sounds big. 2.54cm=1in as a reference. And dangit! I'm sorry to here this! I hope you end up doing the RNY though. It's totes worth it in my opinion!!
  21. Challenge Starting weight: 148.4lbs / CW 151.2lbs (+2.8lbs) Current weight lost: 135.8lbs WLS Starting weight: 287lbs Losing or maintaining weight: Losing but just barely!!!!! (slowly) Working on Goal#2 - 140lbs Fitness/exercise goal: Exercise 6-7 days per week with 3 days being strength building with bands Total weight loss at the end of challenge: (Post January 1st 2019) To Come Check in: Tell us how you are doing - (How is your diet and exercise plan going? Any struggles? Stress level? What have you overcome? Any strategies that have helped)-- Stress level is pretty high, trying to satisfy everyone's needs and get a million things done in time for Christmas while not feeling that great--and having to do 5 days of medical tests and a few more doc appts. Sigh. I also don't want to "be good" and on a diet. I want to have treats. I want to imbibe at all our social functions and eat what I want. But I can't. And things are now "getting old." It's time to put a new spin on things and get excited about reaching Goal #2--not just accept mediocrity cuz I feel great in my clothes and I'm getting compliments! Notoriously bad about follow-through on challenges. And let this be a lesson to all of you...the chickens DO come home to roost and we eventually WILL be penalized for bad behavior! Bahahahahaaha! Two things happened during my "Fatsgiving Break". I got off ALL my BP meds (the last one was a diuretic). And I ate and drank bad bad bad bad things. I'm very carb sensitive. So I blushingly came back at 158.6lbs. Yes, you read that correctly. One hundred and 58.6 forking dorking pounds! A ton of that was fluid. I could see it everywhere! So consequently, it's December 4th today and I am STILL jacking with the Fatsgiving regain debacle. Don't let this happen to you.

That's where the hybrid comes in. You're a VET for sure! But cuz of your "coolness," you also get to stick around and play with the Sophomores. Actually ALL VETS can come play with the Sophomores and hang--you guys just may find us tedious and annoying. But we'd love having y'all! And plus, we'd feel like big kids too!

Ok, so tweens in the WLS world (in my tiny Idaho) are peeps who are experienced -- maybe 6mos-9mos+, but are not yet VETS.
