Sophomoreville - A Home For The the Tweeners

Oh, yay!!! That's fabulous!!! Congrats girlie!!! So the other thing you might get is as you heal, you might develop a better sense of fullness. I did! Especially if you have any "whirly, swirly, twirly, candy cane forest" experiences in your esophagus as you swallow and food takes its own sweet time meandering down! Work hard to identify that feeling and cement it into your brain as one of your "stop" signals. Even if you could continue eating and aren't quite to feeling "done." Also, if you haven't already, you should think about stopping your meat lube. Meat lube = slider for me. Also, if you don't just barely al dente your veg, you should. You also should keep about 85% of your food simple and separate. Meat. Done. Veggies. Done. The other 15% can be casseroles, stews, etc. The separate, dry, dense food is calorically sparse but more nutritionally dense and can give a better satiety than the hold-me-delicious-shenanigans of casserole and cheesy gooey stuff. IMHO...

What's tough for you, cuz of your esophagus thing, you have to drink with your meal...and that's just like making food move through faster. For me, the things that were working before the esophagus inflammation thing was very dry meats (like dry chicken boob) + al dente veggies. I could eat a cup of food theoretically and not be hangry afterwards--or hungry 2 hours later. But if I drink while eatin-all bets are off. How much do you drink with your meal?

Well, I didn't plan on not having restriction! I thought I was only gonna be able to eat like a 1/2c of food and feel "full". But some people's tummys stretch more than others (more rugae), some have bigger stomas, etc. Don't get me wrong, I still eat way less than I could before surgery (unless it's crap--then I can eat the same amount), but it's not as little as say @sillykitty eats or that you ate as a VSGer.

Gosh darnit! I had no idea revisions don't have the same kind of restriction. In a way, that just sounds cray. Cuz you still have to make a stoma and the stoma is what you make it. Right? Some have a bigger stoma (me) and others have a little-er one...It is an open system, but all bypasses are open systems. And my RD said that the pouch doesn't really stretch, but usually the stoma is the part that stretches. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this and are disappointed. It's scary to think of the future. I totally get it. We will just have to form a club!!! Maybe our own thread (yes another one) of "Really Big Eaters" or "No Restrictions" lol or whatever. And we can help remind each other that just because we CAN eat such and such, doesn't mean we should or that its in our best interests. I'm honestly (as much as I stray) trying to remind myself of this and use IF to help me form new behaviors since I only have a few more months in the technical honeymoon period. It honestly is working. I'm much better now than I was! You will be too hon!!!! I just know it! One thing to know though...stick to your quantity and err on the small side of servings. I'm having to go back to 1/2c-1c of food again and it's difficult. LOL!

I Was Amazed When I Heard This

I ate a bite of very rare, very lean steak at around 4-5 weeks? *blush* Sue me... And by about 8 weeks out I was eating anything and everything. But it was only small amounts and very rare, tender and chewed to kingdom come. This is where you simply can't compare cuz we're all different. My doc had released me to eat anything, btw.

I'm going in for Round 2 of mah creamsicle MOM. Anyone wanna do it with me. *snort* 🤣 LOL!!! You are a riot!!! Call MOM!!!!
  8. How I Spent My Christmas Vacation... Sooooo got the test results back from my surgeon AND outted my IF self to her too! She's not a hater. And is totes on board with it! Yippeee!!! I told her like @sillykitty, the more I eat, the more I want, and the hungrier I am and that IF helps me understand the hunger does not represent an emergency situation (most of the time and in most cases...for me only...it might be one for you and you do YOU!) and that it's ok to have set times when you don't eat. That my hunger actually decreases and I can control portions better. She said goforit! #goforit So I probably have a small hernia. It showed on the motility test but he didn't see it on the EGD. And she also wants me to follow up for another esophagus dilation. She said, we can just watch it now, but will chat again in February (1 year surgiversary) about surgery for it if I continue to feel this amount of discomfort. It's NBD. I told her, I can and do still eat...I'm like the mailman, NOTHIN' will keep me from my food and liquids. LOL. But it just doesn't feel that awesome. But to be off almost all my meds now is totes worth any inconvenience having to drink slower or eat slower presents! Hell, maybe I will finally find my restriction! They took a buttload of blood today to try to see if I have any vitamin issues that are contributing to me going bald. #bald30hairsatatime. Have I mentioned, I just love this woman! She's a phenomenal surgeon and is so caring and detailed. Oh and she said I was at a really good weight/size right now and look phenomenal and am a success story!!! She said for me to get to 130lbs is possible but it's gonna take balls-to-the-walls-hard-work. So she said, if I'm willing to do the work it was entirely possible. The End.
  9. Dang girl! You are doing so so so well!!! I didn't realize it came back cancer. ((hugs)) Do you have to do radiation or chemo? Don't worry about the bounce, it's all surgery related. That's my opinion!! And congrats on Onderland!!! Wahhhhoooooooo!!!!!!! Please let me know if you ever want/need to chat or talk!!! I have broad shoulders--or maybe I'm just a broad! Hey! We don't care where you post as long as you post! IF/Sophomore...makes no diff!!! We're just building our happy little group of friends on BP. Cross post! hehehe We LOVE it! And yes, as @GreenTealael said, the penalty is now you're one of us and you have to join us here and post a lot! Like A LOT, A LOT!!! Love you both!!!!
  10. Glad your procedure went well hon!!!! Wooohooo on not having the bumps and pain from it any more!!! But dang on the titanium clavicle. So glad "they rebuilt her!" Maybe you were just really hungry? And off your schedule? And were feeling like, "Ohhhh I just had this done, I'ma "treat myself" a little with Dr. Feelgood stuff..." And blammo! Blowin' chunks! I wish I knew why we do what we do. It's so forkin' irrational. Right?!!! ((hugs)) Tomorrow/tonight is another day. Sorry you're feeling puny now. Real Housewives...:D I will never condemn you. Maybe one day I will share my RTV vices. hehe
  11. I don't know. My book had both interchangeably. Drove me bananas (short trip)...LOL.
  12. How bout multi tasking? Cardio while walking? Merry Christmas!
  13. 6-7oz by volume or weight? At 6 weeks seems very aggressive to me. Even my massive tum only did 1/2c of food at 6 weeks. That's only 4oz by volume. And in the early days most food is figured in volume rather than by weight.
  14. Adventures adventures!!! So no IF per se. I have a little gastritis that I'm working on healing and the gastro dude advised: frequent small meals. And that was it. No details. No definition of what a "small meal" looks like, etc. LOLOL. I'm like, "Dude! If I was capable of stopping myself at "small" meals, I woulda never gotten morbidly obese in the first place. LOL. The trouble is, that having discomfort after eating is apparently not enough negative reinforcement to make me curtail my eating. LOL. I'm like, "Homey don't play that sh*t! Now gimme my food bi*ch before I cut you." I see the surgeon tomorrow where I bet she's gonna tell me I'm a hypochondriac and to get over myself and quit botherin' her. But I will ask her definition of food volume too. So today (yeah it's taken me a while to get my bad self to behave) I'm actively trying to re-introduce the concept of eating only 1/2c of volume at a meal. And only eating when hungry--not just cuz it's been 2 hours since my last mini meal. *snort* So I might be doing IF from the standpoint of caloric restriction, but not time restriction. Anyone trying to do any kind of IF during the holidays?
  15. Good for you. LOL. Now I'ma spank you...3oz of meat at one sitting is too much for you right now. Dial back your jets to 1oz protein + 1oz well cooked veg and chew until it's puree. Make sure whatevs you eat is smashable/mashable with a fork, then chew to wallpaper paste.
  16. Look, it's as simple and as difficult as this...sabotaging with food stops forward momentum. It does. And the 6-18month honeymoon period is that time when it's theoretically easiest to lose weight due to more restriction/less interest in food/more psychological momentum, etc. But it's not "The End" of weight loss. There are plenty here who have lost past 3-4 years and or are continuing to lose. Or who regain and lose the regain. But what 18 months does signify is you are towards the endish of the honeymoon period. I was not blessed genetically or metabollically. So every pound beyond those first couple of months have been "hard won". I honestly only had about a 3mo honeymoon period. And I'm not a saint. Like you, I string together a few weeks and then blammo! I make a poor choice. The diff is that I can't get away with it. The scale ALWAYS wins. The mofo. Some can and do get away with it. I would really encourage you to look into counseling or into a support group in RL, or look into some regimented program where you aren't free-ballin'. Cuz I honestly don't believe the majority of people do well free-stylin' weight loss--even post surgery. I do not think once you arrive at the obesity ball, that the metabolic rules apply to you. I think we have to work harder, do more hacks, figure things out. And I also think that "everything in moderation" for "MOST" people who are obese or are in obesity recovery is a the biggest crock of horse shi* ever invented in psychology today. You can't suddenly intuit the concept of moderation along with the discipline and dietary habits of a lifetime if you've never known or practiced them in the first place. You certainly can't do it by simply applying "mindfulness." I call shenanigans on that crap! LOL. Sorry you're struggling. But the first step is the...first step. It gets harder as you go along. But it's also more rewarding.

    Bulimia

It is possible to develop food aversions/behaviors in response to WLS...just sayin'. I think in general talking with a therapist is always a great idea. They can tell you pretty quickly if it's possible to "give yourself" bulimia from food restriction. I don't think you can do that under normal circumstances. But the mind/body response is very complicated!!!

Here's what shows up under your name. By this, you've only lost about 28lbs. Start 279, Current Wt 251. Differ=28lbs. Congrats on your weight loss.

    Weak and tired

You should follow your doctor's and RD's orders for this. Most get a book to go by and a lot of talk leading up to surgery about what to take. I had 6 months of classes...

Have you seriously only lost 28lbs since surgery and you're throwing up after 1-2 bites?

Sharing a new recipe here for all of our little friends! Let's pretend you're stopped up and need to call MOM. Mkay? Stay with me now... To find SF MOM is very hard where I live, but you can find unflavored MOM in the Walgreens brand that has no calories/carbs in it. So get a bottle of that...mkay? You still here? Then there is FINALLY a use for my Tang flavored SF water drops. Pour out your industrial strength measure of MOM and squirt a couple of dollops of TANG flavored SF water drops. Maybe add a couple drops of liquid vanilla stevia... And badabingbadaboom baybeeee!!!! Creamsicle MOM with no calories/carbs! Woot!!!! And it doesn't suck. Seriously. Tastes a lot like a slightly chalky creamsicle. The End. You're welcome. Merry Christmas!
