Am I eating too much?
FluffyChix replied to Chrisb428's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you get any other food with the meal when you eat 5oz of beef, Diana? Just wondered how big your meal is by volume? -

Woohoooo! The landing basically "stuck". Pre-poopy nekkid this am, 145.0lbs. So pretty close. Today is IF till I drop. The plan is to go maybe 22:2? I'm gonna have 1 gynormous green smoothie this evening, then 2 hours later will eat dinner. That takes care of the protein and fiber. (Oh and I will get a little more fiber in a glass of ice tea between there.) In my heart of hearts I'm hoping to see 143lbs on my scale on Thursday morning, hoping it will show me at "normal range" on her scale! Hoping I can get 2 good IF days into the fray! Think I should be able to. Anyone else IFing these days or is it only me from over the sea? -
My perfect "cocktail" once they stopped the pain pump was: IV Tylenol >> liquid tylenol at home Gabapentine Tramadol Supposedly the combination of those 3 are synergistic and provide similar level of relief as narcotics. They worked for me. And I didn't have any other big guns after about mid afternoon of the day of surgery. I weaned off them pretty quickly at home and if I needed anything, just took liquid tylenol. Hope your surgery goes smoothly and precisely and that you're up and healing in no time at all!!! ((hugs)) Sending healing prayers your way!

I used to make a lot of gluten free single (or near) serving low carb breads and "protein mug/cake". Here's the recipe index. You might like them. They were pretty awesome tasting. Not necessarily the best for weight loss for me personally, but I maintained like a champ with 'em! http://fluffychixcook.com/recipes/recipe-index/ Keto Chocolate Cake: http://fluffychixcook.com/keto-chocolate-cake/ -

Ouch! Anesthesia will step in. It was maybe the worst part of the whole thing. I think they tried like 14 different places on me. -

"had" or "have" - a very operational distinction. Which is it? -
Am I eating too much?
FluffyChix replied to Chrisb428's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at a year out. I have the same macro range as you. I eat 1cup of food by volume per meal (2-3oz protein+1-3oz al dente veg+1tsp equivalent fat serving per meal). I eat 3 meals + 1-2 snacks of about 100-150cals/day. 60-74g protein <30g net carbs 700-900 cals (oh I'm 56, female, 5'4", and walk/jog 6 days per week for 1 hour per day. I've lost 145lbs in about 18 months.) -
Big Name Meal Plans...anyone a year or more out try them?
FluffyChix replied to WLS4ME33's topic in Food and Nutrition
The reality is that EVERYONE on the face of the earth has a diet that they must follow to survive. We all have to eat. So after surgery, it's just important that your diet is something you can live with long term and is affordable and can be made to fit within your doc's and RD's guidelines for their program. So any and all of those work. Me? At 12 months, I just do IF + low carb/low fat/fit my macros (all together). Good luck at finding what works for you! -
Bypass tomorrow and scared
FluffyChix replied to Harborgurl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You got this. So normal being scared. Trust your team and yourself. A year from now, you won't recognize your new life and will question why you waited so long and why on earth you were fearful. Embrace the suck. It's gonna suck for a few days. But then the healing and losing begin! Yeah, don't take a load of crap the hospital. I took, disposable slippers, a toothbrush, Biotene spray, and my phone. I didn't even take underroos. Went commando and used their gowns. Wore the same thing home that wore to the hospital. Make sure to have stretchy pants and loose top. Bring a pillow and leave it in the car for going home after surgery. The End. -

Calorie goal for first 2 weeks?
FluffyChix replied to Sheribear68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're right on target with your present consumption. Focus on meeting protein and water needs the way your doc and RD tell you to do it. -

Obesity is a disease. The AMA says it, the insurance companies say it...etc. It is multifactoral in origin. But once someone is sufficiently metabolically deranged as we are as morbidly obese people, the chances of "doing this on our own" are as slim as winning the lottery. The surgery is only a tool that helps break the metabolic/hormonal cycle that drives obesity. But like any tool, it will only work if applied correctly. A hammer is a tool. But it will only drive the nail that holds up the scaffold, if you pick it up and apply action and the force of your determination. Same thing with the whole WLS stuff. You HAVE to change your behaviors with food in order to lose all the weight you want to lose. It isn't magic bean surgery. And that goes WAYYYY beyond just "mystically, magically learning how to eat small portions." There will come a day when you CAN and WILL eat again--more than you should--of things you should not be eating. Life will get messy and in the way. And there is no operation in the world that will healthfully keep you from eating your feelings unless you do the hard head work involved. WLS is a tool to help put morbid obesity into remission. Once ANYONE is morbidly obese, you can consider yourself to have an intractable, incurable, degenerative disease. But, with the surgery, and with proper attention and care and help, you can put it into remission.

Wow! What a crapton of stress and worry! I get it! Life definitely happens while we're trying to improve ourselves!! I think the idea of having low carb/low fat/healthier options on hand will be very helpful. I also think it's important to get up each day (only take that 1 day) and make a 1-10 check list of plans. Scratch them off as you complete them. Make doing self-care part of that plan. Cuz if you're well, the kids will be healthier. Try making yourself a deal for 1 day only. Make a deal not to have ANYTHING sweet all day (whether or not that is sugar or sugar subs). And include making it a no crap day--so no chips crackers etc. If you need to clean all the crap out of the pantry, frig and freezer! The kids don't need the crap either! Lock it in the trunk of your car if you must! Then any time you're hungry, drink a glass of water as quickly as you can. Then wait 20 minutes--get busy with something else. If at the end of 20 minutes you are still hungry and it's not time for your meal, then have a small protein and veggie based 100cal snack. Follow your rules of eating/drinking. If it is time to eat, then have your meal that you've planned. The rule is that if you're hungry, you eat protein/veg at 100cals per pop. No sweet. I use things like boiled eggs, al dente steamed broccoli, raw veg like leafy greens, rbp, carrots, celery, etc. If I'm hungry enough to eat, then I will eat a boiled egg and some veg! Hard to binge when you're full of boiled egg and veg! Then once you complete the day...do it again tomorrow. Just only commit for 1 day. If you screw up, then continue moving forward taking the next best bite. Don't throw the day away cuz of a slip or an isolated meal or snack. Put the snack in the trash, get the crap out of the house...etc. You can do this. It IS worth it! You are worth it. Your family is worth it. Find a counselor!!! Talk to your doc and RD!!!! Get them to help. It is in their best interest to help you through this rough patch, cuz you are part of their outcomes of surgery. They want to have good stats.

Yeah I hear ya. I would get so mad over the amount of calories and carbs they contributed to my daily total. When you're only eating 3-500cals per day and using 60 of those for vitamins and 10carbs or something. GRRRRR! LOL. But you just gotta suckitupbuttercup and geterdone. -

I used chewables for the first 3 months except for calcium and I still use easy swallow capsules for that. -
Beautiful!! You had me at hello!

Of course it is. And so you should. We all did our homework. It's expected. Just no more frantic "HELLLLLLPPPPSSSSS", cuz it just alienates peeps.

You can also Google your questions and it will bring up stuff from this site and another big site called Obesity Help. They have more DSers over there I think? It's not a commonly performed procedure. The analogy to this is that it's like bringing a Howitzer to a knife fight. As a first line surgery...
