  1. Have we seen this interview with Dr. Fung yet? It's about Leptin & Insulin Resistance? There was a seminal learning moment for me where he told the chief difference between a calorie restricted diet and intermittent fasting and why one drives your metabolic rate down over the long term and why the other (IF) does not! I swear it was a lightbulb moment for me.

Ok I get ya! ((hugs)) Hope you don't have the BRCA mutations...very prevalent in people of Ashkinazi descent... (Eastern European). I am only wanting "easy button" solutions to eating. I too find myself falling back into yogurt, and green smoothies cuz they are easy, quick, and the way I make them--filling. I wouldn't say I'm bored with food. Cuz I still love great food! I'm just tired of making stuff. Make sense?

Sorry for shorthanding. What I was implying is...without nuts as a source of protein, your soy consumption is going to go up. And as for my onc, he forbids his patients to eat phytoestrogens so that means the worst ones are: soy, flax, chia, hemp, Nigella seeds, lots of dairy. So if you have a history of hormone positive cancer in your family, it's best to stay away from eating things that contains these as much as possible. And for sure you should have to if you are BRCA positive. So even though I can't cut out dairy completely, I try to keep it to a dull roar.

    Artificial Sweeteners

Yeah. You know, the dose makes the poison. I'm a mid-hedonist, so on the very small times when I use AS, I use what works for the job. I still use SNL for iced tea. Love it. The pink packs. I'm a child of the 60s and 70s. I use some SF Davinci and Torani. I use some liquid stevia stuff. I use Swerve and things like that on the few times I bake and need the bulk of a sweetener. I doubt very seriously if anyone will be able to write on my tombstone: It Wot The Artificial Sweeteners Wot Dunn Her In LOL. But having said that, I eat very cleanly with few packaged productized food. So my dose is by my own hand, not a manufacturer who hides that crap in every damn thing whether it's sweet or savory. Some savory foods DO NOT NEED ANY SWEETENER OF ANY KIND!!!! (I feel like I'm yelling. Am I? )

So yeah...we all know that the current Dr. V. is kinda on a whacked journey. But he still has kernels of real knowledge. For all you doing a "5-Day Pouch Reset" cuz you think your tool is stretched out...you might wanna watch!

@GreenTealael I think I'm sorry to hear this from you!! Please at least tell me you have no hormone positive cancer in your family and that you've been tested for the BRCA genes?

    One week Post op

There will be emotional rollercoasters girl! Hang on! But they pass. There is always an end to the moment!! And you will be on to living your fit fabulous life!
  8. @GrandDivaFee Welcome! Hope you will come post and play with us! I'm a full believer in IF--especially with getting off the last pounds, but even more--in continuing the healing that comes from hormesis (WLS + IF) . My insulin levels went from the high teens down to a 2! A 2! I've never in my life had a 2 insulin! @GreenTealael OMG! Cabbage, carrots, and kale a trifecta of colon bombing! But oh. so. good!!!! Glad the Gas X works! I love the GasX strips (I buy on Amazon). Yeah...so OMAD. I think OMAD may only be made for normies? Cuz of their bigger capacity to eat. Cuz something I'm still confused about is...if on OMAD you're not supposed to gorge, just how do you satisfy nutritional needs? I gotta go back and listen to some of our boyz to figure that one out. Cuz it's just too much food for me and too much blood sugar/insulin spike. I think that may be part of my RH problem. I'm crying in my matcha over here about your losing that loving feeling for your nuts! I can only handle them in small quantities. They sit very heavy and can make me RH/dump with serious low bg and nausea. I'm gonna do a 16:8 today. Down to 143PP (pre-poopy) Wooohoooo!
  9. Awwww! So sad about the gas girl!! What did you eat that set it off? How r u feeling now? I had to give up on OMAD cuz of some vitamin deficiencies. 😞 But today was shooting 4 2 meals plus a protein drink and couldn’t do it. Made it an 18:6 with an Ostrim stick plus leftover chix and green soup tonight. Ugh getting Mr. F’s cold.

    Am I eating too much?

Thanks lady! I love questions like the OP's thread. It helps me hold my "I'm failing WLS paranoia" to a minimum! I know my diet will never be able to emulate yours. You are an elite athlete and I'm just a shmo who struggles with the self-motivation to walk an hour per day! So my needs are few comparatively. But seeing/hearing your quantity helps me not to freak out that I feel like I am a little "hangry" with my little 1 cup of food at 1 year. And yeah, I also concentrate on protein first (lean, dry, dense etc.) and that does help for reals. But if I let myself I could seriously eat 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups of food at 1 year: lean dense protein + al dente veg + avocado/tomato

Glad you got it figured out! Congrats on being back on track losing!
  16. I pretty much agree with keeping your headwork with a real therapist out of the loop with your WLS doc. I also think get a second opinion or switch surgeons. You don't owe them a thing!
  17. Yay! Come join me! I'm going to try for a 20:4 today. I think I need that 4 hour window to get my protein in. I'm planning a 200 cal 35g green smoothie and a normal, grilled chicken veg for dinner. Down to 144.4lbs pre-poopy this morning. That means I'm guaranteed for 143.8lbs post. hahahaha! But I didn't have my fiber cracker/almond butter last night and I am not feeling the love right now. @AZhiker Yes, talk to your team, but I think most of us feel you should probably be about 6 or more months out before adding in IF. Give your body time to heal without any other restriction over the surgery and see how you do nutritionally. You need to be sure that you can easily get all your fluids in, meds/vits in, and protein in before doing anything like this. Congrats on doing it pre-op though! And congrats on your surgery!! Welcome to the group. You can still post with us without having to IF!
  18. Pretty cool blog post on Deconditioning and insulin control/hunger and IF. https://gettingstronger.org/diet/

    Diet Restrictions

Definitely follow the doc's plans! I was clear liquids for 2 days Full liquids for 2 weeks Soft (skipped puree stage per doc) 2 weeks Full diet beyond Week 4 (without raw veggies). Raw veggies either Week 5 or 6? Can't remember. I'm RNY. But just cuz I was able to eat on that schedule doesn't mean anyone else should. Each of our surgeries are different and carry different risks! So always best to ask your doc and RD!!

    Onederland!

    Congrats!
  21. Call your surgeon's (bariatric) + other surgeon to discuss this.

    I just wanna eat

I've had hunger since about 4 weeks post op. (physical + head) I've honestly worked and worked HARD for every pound I've lost. There haven't been many "gimmes" from the surgery. I can eat more than most, have had very little complication. And if I don't work my plan each day and make sure I stay true to my diet, get my fluids in, get my vits/mins in, and exercise I either stall, or gain. And if I eat the wrong things? My hunger goes off the charts and I just want to eat and eat and eat. So I do IF (intermittent fasting), and also eat low carb. I focus on eating very simple meals with a separate lean, dry, grilled protein + al dente veg + a small serving of healthy fat. I eat 1cup/meal by volume and get 60-74g of protein per day. I try to stay at or under around 30g of net carbs per day (the lower the better). I'm still lowing slowly toward my 2nd goal at 1 year.
