spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend/family heavy??
FluffyChix replied to ProudGrammy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was, girl! And is probably still in the obese category if not overweight. BUT. We both started this weight loss journey (for the billionth time), about 18 months+ ago. His blood sugars were crazy at 250+ and he weighed about 60-65lbs more than he does now. We live a low carb life. For him that's all it's really taken (and beginning walking and core exercises) to lose that weight over time without angst. (It took me not only doing that but cutting cals/carbs/fat razor thin and having RNY) to accomplish the same things! He's been able to stop 2 diabetes medications as of yesterday and we're hopeful that within the next 2 weeks he will be able to stop his blood pressure medication. He's doing so much better!! And I'm so proud of him. We've actually grown together in our efforts to support each other and to implement our healthy lifestyle=new reality, rather than apart. He still wants to lose another 30lbs and I'm fully committed to helping him realize that goal. We want to live a healthy, whole life, free of disease for as many years as possible/shortening the window of morbidity to a very narrow area--later in life. -
I'm sorry for your struggle, but know there IS hope! Never give up hon!

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability

We're mainly looking at EF (extended fasts) cuz: 1. Mr. F. is trying (and totally on board) with getting off all diabetes meds, keeping his A1c in normal range, and losing 30 pounds to start! Woot! So I want to do it with him as encouragement. I'm so proud of him. He's lost about 65lbs and has brought his blood sugars down from 250mmol/ng to 90-110mmol/ng and is already off his Invokana but also just off his metformin as of yesterday. 2. For autophagy for me cuz of the cancer + since treatment I have a tremor (mom had Parkinson's) and I've noticed it getting worse over the years. 3. To ward off dementia/alzheimers for Mr. F. and me. 4. For the last 12 lbs of fat to preserve muscle sparing while targeting fat. (I'm still taking my supplements and won't stop that even if it disrupts the autophagy. -

Dooooo eeet! We'll support each other! We are gonna do it each week on Mondays and Tuesdays starting after Sunday night dinner at 8pm. And I swear with the cup of bone broth and a few spinach leaves floating in it with a tiny bit of mushrooms, it's VERY do-able. Totally took the angst out of things. Was having a TON of nor-epinephrine/adrenaline spikes last night! I think we will break our fast tonight just cuz this is the first long one. But next week, now we see we can do it, I think we'll try to go to Wednesday morning. And if I see me losing too much, then I won't do it. But right now, that isn't the issue. I'm only at my posted weight today of 142.4lbs. -
Reactive hypoglycemia
FluffyChix replied to Jessibird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Too many simple carbs will make me have it. Also alcohol will. I do better with adequate protein, healthy fat, and lots of leafy greens and low glycemic veggies, and a few berries here or there. Sorry you are having this! -

Oh mah gawsh woman! You look TOTES amazing!!!! You have a fantastic figure and are so beautiful!!! Congrats. Wear them ALWAYS! ALWAYS!!!! So, just how hawt do you feel these days? And does your head fit through the doorframe? Mine would be so. big. sooooo. big! You are SMOKIN' HAWT! -
This is totally normal for where you are in the evolution. I too get hungrier when I add in too much fruit. I can do about an ounce or two of berries or a green tart apple with peel a day without increased hunger. One thing my RD told me which works great for me - still at 13months out is that fill pouch with protein at meals. But you can plan mini meals that have mostly veg! In the early days that helped me. Early On: Breakfast: Protein shake (or green smoothie with protein powder + frozen spinach + blueberries + psyllium + unsw. cash milk) = 30g of protein MS: red bell pepper, celery or cucumbers or carrots and a yogurt ranch sauce Lunch: 2-3oz protein: roll up with meat/cheese + 1oz of some raw veg (cucumber, carrots, celery, grape tomatoes, avocado) AS: Mixed green salad like Rick outlines + feta cheese + pumpkin or sunflower seeds or walnuts/almonds/pecans Dinner: 2-3oz protein (grilled or pan sauteed) + 1oz cooked veggies + 1oz avocado/tomato BS: 1/2oz almonds + 1oz Granny Smith Apple NOW at 13months: I try not to snack, but do schedule a bedtime JIC snack. And if I'm hungry through the day, then the ONLY thing I get is 1 hard boiled egg OR raw veggies with yogurt Ranch dip Breakfast: I still alternate green smoothies with eating egg puffs with spinach and mushrooms Lunch: Salad with 2oz protein or Green Soup with bone broth and veggies + 2oz protein Dinner: 3-4oz protein + 1-2oz cooked veggie + 1oz avocado/tomato BS: 1/2oz almonds + 1oz Granny Smith Apple OR 1 GG brancrisp + 1-2tbsp almond butter

Dang! So you guys, I'm totally counting this as a win, cuz Dr. F. says that we "can" use bone broth and even in some cases a tiny amounts of greens on a fast. Well last night I had 1 cup of bone broth with about 1/8c of baby spinach and a tiny crimini mushroom. Total maybe 55cals? MAYBE? And only water, green tea, matcha, and black decaff coffee the rest of the day. I'm riding high going into 36 hours this morning! I'm gonna push it until dinner tonight. Wooohooooo! Feel good. Mr. F. also did it and even better, he stopped his metformin yesterday and his fasting bg was only 102 this morning. It fell to 90 yesterday afternoon! I'm super stoked!!! -

Hope they figure it out. You need to check all your vitamin levels. And thyroid too, in addition to your iron. ((hugs)) -

You are ALREADY in a fasted state by virtue of the lack of calorie intake. LOL. I would rephrase this that if it were ME...I would strongly NOT do IF so soon after surgery. Seriously. WE NEED TO GET OUR PROTEIN intake steady. EAT. Eat enough veggies with your protein. Eat healthy fat. If you want, become keto adapted not only cuz of your calorie intake but by keeping your carbs low and protein adequate. That's gonna take MUCH longer than 2 weeks. Let the surgery do the job it's meant to do and control the QUALITY of your diet more than the quantity right now. At some point quantity will become an issue but not in the early days--maybe not even until the 9-10th month... At about the 6month mark it would be appropriate to entertain ideas about IF, but even then that may be too soon. This is just my opinion. I clearly am not an RD or doc. LOL. And I don't play one on the internet. -
2 weeks until revision, and not feeling it....

Not really sure right now. Maybe quorn? I have an appointment with her in May. I'm fine, but I'm tired of "not knowing" and living so strictly. I would love to have/try bean back if they don't spike me too much. Would love to feel like I'm not killing myself if I eat chia seeds, hemp hearts and hummus/falafel now and then! Would love to know if there is a daily threshold to stay below, etc. Sorry for making this all about me. -

Dang maybe I should try some falafel then?! I have to wait for the oncology RD's blessing though. I'm looking at trying to find non-meat protein sources that aren't high in phytoestrogens. I suspect chickpeas will be put on the no-fly list. -

Holy carbs! Those look fabulous!!! You know how you can learn to eat around your tool? I am pretty sure, I would learn how to do that in Egypt! The ramen, I'm like, "Meh...is that all you got?" Cuz even though I am a ramen and pho bi*ch, I feel really certain that using some of my shiritaki noodles in it, means I can have my soup and eat it too! But your Egypt food pics? hahaha...I look and secretly chant, "My preciouses..." -
