How are you getting in enough protien
FluffyChix replied to Porthous's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How many meals do you eat per day. How much volume are you eating per meal. How much lean, dense protein can you handle eating per meal? Do you exercise--if so, how many times per week, how long each time, and how much intensity is it/what is it (ie walking v. jogging or running, full body movement exercises or HIIT). Hair loss is natural with this journey. Many people will experience a regrowth starting sometime after month 9. Nothing you can do about it. I agree, at 6'4" 60-70g of protein per day doesn't sound like enough and 90-100g sounds more like it. Congrats on your success so far!! -

Controlling Hunger Part I - A new blog post from IDM and Megan Ramos (Dr. Fung's partner and research scientist). They have a lot of bariatric patients at IDM, but are not pro-WLS. So if you can look past their bias, this is a very informative and helpful article. Just like we suspected, "the less we eat, the less hunger we experience" and conversely, "the more we eat, the hungrier we get." https://idmprogram.com/controlling-hunger-part-1/?fbclid=IwAR0WaH3yghu_6jwYXV7M8lRbrp4t0stvpKcYP0MtXsxzPV3xz9pPo56MLzs -
Patience grasshoppah! I agree with Tea. Go back to do one thing at a time. Go back to your old way of eating LC or Keto or whatever you choose to call it. You are likely hungry with it cuz you're keeping fats pretty low. Maybe up your fats and see if it helps with satiety? But when I say "up" them, I'm not talking fat bombs or desserts, or lots of added dietary fat. I'm talking about: 1. Switch from boneless skinless breasts to breasts with the skin. Or switch to thighs. Or eat beef pot roast. Or eat pork shoulder. These cuts naturally have more fat in the meat and so have more calories and are more satiating. Also if you are only eating 2oz per meal (by weight) of protein, try eating 3oz. if you are eating 3oz per meal, try eating 4oz. until you hit your daily protein goal. If you hit your goal easily and go over on protein...then you may need to look at re-apportioning your protein/veggie serving size to fit your macros. I'd add a small salad with vinaigrette to each meal if that happened. I rarely eat more than 3oz per meal cuz I don't need the extra protein. 2. Eat 1-2oz by weight of al dente veggies. Add 1tsp of fat to them (avo oil, evoo, coconut oil, butter, ghee, animal fat) or add up to 1oz avocado, or 1/2oz by weight of nuts/seeds. 3. Eat 3 meals per day. Try not to snack. If you are hungry allow a snack composed of these (choose one): a. String Cheese b. Hard Boiled Egg c. 1oz dense dry protein. This will put you in ketosis big time by the end of about 4 days. You will lose 2-4lbs of water from it as your liver dumps glycogen and the attached molecules of water it holds. Then do that for a month and don't worry about it. That's your new diet. As your pouch matures, you will need to revise it to add more fat/calories to your day, or continue to choose more fat dense meats/dishes. If you are struggling with weight loss, I would stick to this and I would avoid calorie dense complex meals such as casseroles, stews, gooey, cheesy stuff. I'd stick to clean meats, healthy fats, al dente veggies. Hope that helps! Congrats on your losses!!!!! Don't stress, don't worry! For me eating in maintenance is longer than 2months with no loss on the scale or by the tape measure. For me a stall is 3 weeks without a change on the scale or by the tape measure. Other people have different definitions.

Ok, cuz I feel compelled to copy everything Tea does (except get carried...away hehe), I also had a green smoothie today for lunch. It's a total slider for me so it's a way to easily get down lots of veggies. And I followed it with a broccoli in sesame dressing with walnuts chaser. So so good. So filling. No afters...cuz they obeyed when I said, "Get in mah belleh!!!!" Veggie Boy: And here's the ingredients for the meal. The salad ingredients are the last 3 in the list: -

I don't know how you do it from your phone? I do a screen capture on my computer screen, but it's a desktop. I know Tea knows how to do it though!!! -

Wow. Stress city. I can't even imagine the stress involved with having a psychopath for a boss. Or the stress of hiring/firing the minions! No wonder you have A-fib. I hope you're able to destress at night so you can heal. Sounds like you need a meditation/prayer component in your day? I would say maybe make a Daily Menu thread either in the Lounge or in the Post Op Nutrition Area? Probably more would participate in the Lounge though? -

You have GOT to tell your doctor this. Vitamins are non-negotiable. You can do serious long term damage from not taking your vitamins! -

Wha? Why would you EVER quit? No wonder you feel like you're dying. I'd go to the doctor and get my blood drawn for vitamin test... -

Define "little bit at a time"? And how frequently. IMHO, you are in a slippery slope situation. Cuz you're naturally afraid weight loss won't stop. But it does. And you aren't developing the habits that are gonna sustain you over time, once your tool relaxes more with age and once your hunger kicks back up. Grazing is just a recipe for disaster...even if you have to drink some of your protein to get it in. Organized meals are very different than grazing behavior both physically and mentally. And "a little bit of everything" is hard. Cuz you need to know how much protein you're getting each day--do you need to up it? How much fat are you getting each day? Do you need to up it? For many of us, eating isn't intuitive. We have to have a plan to know how to control an outcome... -

Ugh, it sucks to be sensitive to sodium. My PCP said he thought that is part of my issues. Sorry to hear that you are also sensitive to it! Gah! For me, posting is a must (at least in MFP), but I always thought a daily menu thread could be so helpful to most of us--like they do on another forum. I can't imagine that your 38cal hot choco is the culprit. But maybe you could try ditchin' it for a week to see? Maybe replace it with a nightly cup of camomille tea? ((hugs)) So glad to see you here again. I've been worried about you!! -

Is it possible you have body dysmorphia? Hair loss is normal with this. And at 5'3" and 127lbs you are only in the range of normal--not close to critical loss. Chances are your body will reach an equalibrium. And then you will struggle NOT to gain. I would not honestly add a weight gainer if it was me. What do you eat each day? Do you weigh measure and log your foods? How much are you able to eat at a meal? Do you eat 3 meals per day or what is your meal frequency? Do you have any food aversions/issues? I think you look pretty normal to me? But my opinion is irrelevent. Sorry you are skeered! -
Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability

Ok, what a difference a day makes! I think I figured some of the massive food volume out! And I opted on FMD Day 2 Lunch (fasting 18:6) to go with a green drink that I blend/pulverize rather than juice--so it has all the fiber + some more. TY psyllium husks. It was very tart and savory. I even added a splash of ACV to it along with a shake of garlic, pepper, and cayenne. Dang. Gonna maybe have the same thing on Thursday--it was that good! I also made a side dish cuz I needed more protein. Just quick broccoli tossed with sesame dressing and some walnuts. I'm full y'all! But feel very energetic and ready to run! I did have some leg/ankle swelling last night and weight was up this morning along with BP, so that tells me that the boxed broth is not my friend. I did it so I would know quantities, but clearly I can't handle a 500mg hit of sodium per cup. It'll come back off, but I was hoping to drop overnight with a water drop...not. (My Veggie Boy is ugly as baby poop!) Here's the yummy broccoli: And here are the ingredients/quantities. The broccoli and walnuts are the last 3 items on the list. -

Yes, the puff in the oven. I just use 4oz ramekins. And you stir them a couple times through. I actually do this with big pyrex bowls of eggs. Like oven scrambled eggs without the fat. -

You could poach them in a water bath. I do mine in the microwave to make an egg puff. But I know you don't MW. No oil though. -
Make a list today. Put 3 actionable steps on it that are just for you. No matter how big or small they are. Just put them on the list. Keep it only to 3. Then go get those things done. Check them off your list. And look at the list as you accomplish them. Finish the list before you sleep. If I was fighting depression, I would segment it so that it didn't feel overwhelming. Such as: 1. Go outside in the fresh air for 5 minutes and do deep breathing. (Concentrate on how good it feels to feel the fresh air on your face. Mentally release all of the anxiety, sadness, and dark feelings. Imagine it lifting away and being carried up into the air and blown away on the wind.) 2. Walk either outside or around the inside of your house for 5 minutes. Just 5 minutes. Walk as fast as you can. Get your heart rate up. Listen to happy music. Walk walk walk. 3. Watch a comedy that really makes you belly laugh. And I'd check them off and tomorrow I would do another list of 3. Keep doing it daily and build on your list but keep it under 5 things for awhile. When you're ready, focus on your diet. But right now, you need to focus on your mental/emotional well-being. Hang in there. ((hugs))

Wooohooo on conversions!! Maybe he thinks he's Popeye now--and needs to carry you around? Hope you like the curry soup. Disclaimer: eyeball the spices. I never measure that stuff. Add your curry to taste. (psssst, so far today? I have more true belly hunger this morning going into FMD. I'm drinking water and green tea like a beast to satiate. But my bg was a tiny bit lower this morning at 81 from 83 (not truly significant).
