    Plateaus/gains 4 months post-op

Congrats on 151lbs in 4 months! Outstanding. Congrats on getting active!!! Wooot! Great changes. Stalls do happen, but at your current size, if your stall has lasted more than 3 weeks (no move on scale or tape measure/waist-height ratio), then you are not stalled, you are in maintenance IMHO. I'd weigh, measure, plan and log every bite. Weight loss is born in the kitchen not through working out/hiking.
  2. Frankly? It doesn't matter. If you miss an appointment, most insurance companies just don't care. Suck it up buttercup. Quit the self-sabotage and finish the pre-op race. We all have to take our lumps when we screw up. Call your RD or surgeon's office and tell them what's happened. See what she says. She'll tell you to come in. Take your next best bite. Start now.
  3. Keep your appointment. If you miss some appointments the clock starts over again. Your doc/RD need to know of your struggle.

Surgery is complete! Onto road to recover

Yay! Welcome to your new life. Seize it with both hands and don't look back!!
  5. I read a lot on here about people having so much restriction that it's still difficult to satisfy your protein requirements each day. Quite a few are lactose intolerant so it's not as simple as eating a protein bar or drinking a protein shake. Others are so sick of protein shakes that they're ready to do dire things! And still others have a lack of appetite (thank you surgery for doing your job--embrace it). But bottom line we ALL have personal responsibility to hack our own bad selves and figure out how to do what our surgeon and RD want us to do! I thought it might help to see just what it would take in a world where you are limited to 1/2c-1c of food per meal by volume (about 2-4oz by weight) in a day. Whenever I meal plan, I start with the basics of things I'm either hungry for, or know are lean/dense protein. I don't try to get tricky. I keep those kinds of cheesy gooey meals for treats and feast days...not every day. So here's how I figure out how to plan my protein to get between 60-70g per day--if I'm trying NOT to use any kind of protein drink/protein cracker or sweet/protein supplement, etc. RULE #1 Log your protein. Begin with only 3 meals: B/L/D and see where you fall. As you can see, in 3 meals I'm getting 51g of protein from lean protein sources alone! Wow! Cool! 51g will do in a pinch, but it's still too low for everyday figures. Looks like we're gonna need some snacks! Ok, let's do it! Breakfast: Microwave Egg Puff (no extra fat needed cuz it's cooked in a glass bowl in the microwave) Lunch: Turkey and Cheese Rollup (no extra fat needed cuz it's in the turkey and cheese) Dinner: Grilled Chicken (add up to 1 tsp of olive oil to cook the chicken with spices) RULE #2 Add 2 Snacks to Your Day and Assess How Much Protein You Still Need. It makes the most sense to add a Midmorning Snack and an Afternoon Snack, but suppose you aren't hungry in the afternoon after your lunch? Well, I like going to bed on a satisfied tummy, so I'm inclined to add a Midmorning and a Bedtime Snack first just to see where we are with Protein Requirements! Here's the protein plan for the day with 2 snacks added into the mix. If you do nothing more than this, most of us will get by with protein until we're able to eat 3oz of protein at a meal. But, it's still kinda low so let's add 1 more Snack! RULE #3 If Protein Is Still on the Low End, Add 1 More Snack!!! If I need to add a snack #3 to the mix, I want it to be easy, low/no cook, maybe more sliderish in nature and be a little more less like a protein chore. So let's make it lactose free fun!?! And voila, for very little effort I'm smack where I need to be to get my daily protein in while only eating about 2oz of protein per meal by WEIGHT and around 1 ounce of protein by WEIGHT per snack. That's about 1/2c of protein by VOLUME per meal and about 1/4c of protein by VOLUME per snack. That assumes you will eat about every 3 hours. Now it's time to add your veggies! RULE #4 You've satisfied your protein, now let's go add those veggies to flesh out our meal! Most of you will be able to eat between 1-2oz of veggies by WEIGHT per meal. So let's start there! That's between 1/8-1/2cup of veggies by VOLUME depending on the density of the veggie and how firmly you chop or pack them into your measuring cup. Here's your immediate "requirements" for protein and veg/fruit: RULE #5. Now let's make it taste good!!! Let's add our fats in although we already have some fats in the form of avocado, and nuts/nut butters, plus the fat in our proteins. So here's the full day! And it's filled with nutrient dense filling foods that taste satisfying and don't add a bunch of extra calories into the mixture! Hope that helps you. The key is to break your day down and systematically look at what you need each meal to get you to the finish line. That way you don't end up at the end of the day and you have only gotten 20g of protein into your piehole! This type of planning takes me about 5 minutes every day to sit down either then night before or the next morning and fill it out. I might deviate from plan, sure, but at least you know where you are in the ballpark in case you need to make adjustments in order to meet your protein needs and keep calories in line with your other macro goals!! (By the way, if you AREN'T lactose intolerant, you save a lot of carbs by using regular Greek yogurt and if you are lactose intolerant, sub out the string cheese for a hard boiled egg or an ounce of lunch meat! How do you plan your day so you get protein in?

    Gallbladder Warriors! Sound familiar?

Ouch! Sorry you're having such probs with intermittent pain! If it was me, I would be to go eat a high fat meal/day. If it's gallbladder, you will be mowed down. Mine did that exact same thing. I do have sludge and small stones, but mine was mostly from a small hernia and recurring inflammation in the esophagus that is mostly handled by taking 40mg of prescription omeprazole (emptied out of the capsule into a spoon of applesauce). ((hugs))
  8. Yay! Soft boiled egg wiht a bit of butter (tiny tiny bit) is the bomb.com. Chew to a pulp. Goes easier than pureed egg.

10 days post op smooth sailing?

Congrats. Embrace your new life and don't forget to breathe!!! Just breathe!
  10. I had surgery when I was 55. My weight loss has felt incredibly slow in comparison to others. So don't compare. LOL. Cuz it's a major buzzkill. I have had to apply significant effort and focus to losing and had many, many, many stalls!!! But look at where I am now! In a little over a year since surgery, I'm closing in on Goal #3 of 130lbs. So the slow and steady race CAN still be won. But, use this time very wisely. If you have crappy habits and a poor diet filled with SAD (standard american diet) but are eating it in small quantities, stop that behavior now! Cuz I swear, the honeymoon period is for WORK, not being indulgent. There is time enough in maintenance for indulgence. If you have high glycemic carbs in your diet, minimize or eliminate them. Focus on your protein. Keep carbs mostly bites of veg (when you can) and small (very small) amounts of healthy fats. Keep your calories low low low for losing. I promise you won't get stuck there. Hang in there cuz you are in the 3 week stall area. Don't despair, you will lose.
  11. Yikes! So it's good you recognize this is a problem. That's the first step. Now what to do? As everyone's said, you MUST talk to your surgeon. You just do. Second, weigh, measure and log every morsel that goes in your mouth. If you need 70g of protein for the day divide that between 3 meals + 1-2 small protein or veggie snack. ONLY measure/weigh out the amount of food needed for that meal. And as @MIZ60 said, only put the portion you can eat on the plate. When it's done, you're done until the next meal. I know, easier said than done but you can do it. Choose low cook, low reward foods for meals for the next couple of weeks. The idea is to spend as little time in the kitchen as possible, and think about food as little as possible. If it were me, here would be my plan--I would buy a rotisserie chicken and eat on it all week and use the bones for bone broth. That way you don't need to worry about cooking at night except to microwave some veg. Are you eating 1/2c food or 3/4c food by volume? B-2 eggs + 1tsp olive oil (cooked any way you want) 1 turkey sausage 1oz baby spinach wilted in pan where you cooked your egg L-2oz Tuna Pouch 1oz cottage cheese 1 tsp Dijon mustard 1tsp dill relish spices 1 lettuce leaf (to wrap it in) AS-1/2c Greek Yogurt (plain 1/4c frozen blueberries 7 drops liquid stevia D-2oz rotisserie chicken 1oz broccoli (microwaved) 1oz avocado 1/2oz grape tomatoes BS-1tbsp almond butter (or 14g almonds) Try to use tiny saucers, tiny forks and spoons, and eat as dense a protein and al dente veg that you tolerate. Stay very well hydrated during the day, but 15minutes before you meal, drink an entire 8-12oz glass of water. Drink 3/4 of it as quickly as possible, then sip the remaining until full. Stop at 15 minutes. Then do not drink anything for 2 hours after your meal. This is called water loading. It helps with satiety tremendously. See if this helps.

    Magnesium Citrate

Yes. I take 2 pills daily of it. 400mg. I don't do the liquid cuz it hits me hard and causes too much cramping.
  13. @Jon_gets_skinny Welcome! I don't know if it's comforting to you, but this is so totes normal. Yay on normal, right? The night before my surgery I could barely sleep a wink! One suggestion I would like to make: Turn your energy into something constructive. When the anxiety hits you, do a couple of deep breaths, relax all the tension in your muscles and "lean into the anxiety." Give into it. Don't resist. It's like letting the air out of a balloon. And you can visual that if it helps! Then replace the anxious thought with a positive thought or affirmation. Every time fear raised it's head I flipped the light switch off on that thought and replaced it with this thought: That surgery is my rebirth day--it's the day that I forever alter the outcome of my life and it's the day my fan-forkin-skinny-life begins. That's how I thought of it. Pretty soon, the excitement overtakes the fear. I promise you this Jon, the first month are so is difficult, but not impossible. It's hard--more for some than others. There are ups and downs emotionally and physically at times. But morbid obesity in a skinny world is hard emotionally and physically. Right? Choose your hard. Obesity is a disease as defined by the AMA. It's not a character flaw. You have the chance for a new start. Take it. Don't look back. I'm down nearly 150lbs from when I began my journey. And I'm lovin life every day. No regrets. You can do this. Don't come this far to let fear dictate your future and choices. Good luck. Your team has you!!

Let me know! You should also come to our support group. My RD is the bomb and the girls are so neat. It's at Park Plaza Hospital on a Saturday--1 time per month. The Saturday changes right now...but it should be second Saturday.

    EVERYTHING feels stuck, keep vomiting

Try different temperatures. Cold did me in. But warm or room temp went down well. If you can't get your fluid in you risk dehydration (which makes you nauseated and makes it even harder to keep liquids down). Don't worry about protein today. Focus on getting your clear liquids in.
  18. Whooooohooooo! Love success!!! AND love wait for it... Mega BMs!!!!!! 🍾

    SUPPORT? or ENABLING?

At what point does "support" become enabling? And here's another... At what point does being a "straight shooter" and tellin' someone to knock it off--that the king does NOT have new clothes, that those new clothes are his butt nekkid ass hanging in the wind, become abusive? Ok, go!!!

  21. Just watched this YouTube with Dr. Longo and Dr. Hyman. Fascinating absolutively fascinating!! (The bottom line is that there is no "one size fits all diet from a perspective of macros." It's all based on your nutritional status, metabolic health, age, etc.. Cool stuff.
