(ms.sss) 6 Month Post-op Update

Ha! Oddly enough, I was thinking about this. That we ought to invent skin tape for the arms like they have to pull up eyes and foreheads for "instant facelifts." -
Overeaters Anonymous - Should I go??

But you are on a food addiction thread. That advice is NOT the norm. And it's terrible for anyone with a mature pouch--most especially anyone struggling with food addiction, increased hunger, or inappropriate urges to snack. -

Wow. I think that's TERRIBLE advice! Way to reinforce grazing and snacking behavior and keep you insulin elevated all the live long day. *sigh* SMH. -

((hugs)) Fat days suck! You are doing great. So give yourself huge credit!!! Any poor choices we make yesterday are passed and in the past. We can only learn and move forward. You know? So glad you're having a strong day! Yay you! (BTW? I am now on my 2nd cup of decaff black unsweetened coffee, having already exhausted my daily stash of green tea + bergamot. *snort* Mr. F. might actually do a 36 hour with me, if I don't cave tonight and do the FMD. He really needs it cuz of his T2. So I'm trying to be strong and pull out a water fast (+ gt + bt + dec blk coffee) Here's the group. It's a closed group you have to request to join. Great people there. Come in and introduce yourself. BTW, shhhh on WLS. I haven't outted myself there. I'm Susie Gibbs. https://www.facebook.com/groups/resetters/about/ -

Wow! WTG! Yeah, the thing is no one really knows for sure. So Dr. Pelz and Dr. Fung err on the side of water only. But they also say if coffee and tea are needed to get you through the fast, then so be it. Same thing with broth. I just figure you know? If I want my green tea and bergamot and a cup or 2 of black coffee, that's my line in the sand and I don't care if others think I'm breaking it. I seem to be doing ok. I'm doing the 5 day Resetters Fast Training Week with Dr. Mindy right now. You should come jump in on it. I'm doing the FMD version. I hope it's easier. I'm having troubles fasting for extended periods (think I'm either not fat adapted or that I have very little left to lose, and so I'm having hunger issues). You are doing great! Congrats on 35 hours. You can do 55hours or 60!! Keep going. Let me know if you want the FB link to the group! -
Afraid of stretching my sleeve...

I'm pretty sure by 6 months out (RNY) my pouch held like 6oz of cottage cheese by weight (about a cup by volume) of food. At 12 months I could hold 9oz of cottage cheese by weight (about 1 1/4 cups by volume) of food. Now at 14months-ish, I can hold about 1 1/2-2cups of food. But should I? No. I try to measure everything. Volume is KING! Then you weigh stuff into your cup. Ideally you should shoot at 6-12months for 1/2-1cup of food per meal max for life. I can eat way more veggies and salad than I can in a combined meal. -

How are you feeling now?! ((hugs)) I second the Tea suggestion! Also, unfiltered Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) in hot water with a wedge of lemon and a sprinkle of pink salt. YUM!! -
Ok, let's all geek out! So it's not an arbitrary calculation. It's based on some archaic insurance charts that the AMA and ASMBS still use to this day. This chart defines the "IDEAL" weight as placed against height. IDEAL Weight for a Woman is defined as: 100lbs for the first 5 feet; 5lbs for every inch over 5 feet. (i.e. A 5'4" woman would have an IDEAL weight of 120lbs.) So the ASMBS and your surgeon all know this is a bullshit chart based on the average size of people from the 50's. And most modern day people have more muscle, bones, and fat than the average size person in the 50's when women's waists were 20-21inches! They set the IDEAL weight and subtract the amount of your weight on surgery day to determine something called excess body weight (EBW). IDEAL Weight - Surgery Day Weight = EBW (excess body weight) EBW X Your Surgical % of Expected Weight Loss = Expected Pounds Loss of EBW EBW - Expected Loss = Goal Weight. The End. (BTW, I have Champions. They are cute, cheap, and FUN-ctional!) (Double BTW, looking mighty good there @sillykitty!!! Hugs!)

We like them, but they still spike our bgs and stop our weight loss and kick us out of ketosis... -

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yes. Agreed. Dr. Fung however, seems to see in his practice that all artificial sweeteners cause a cephalic insulin response in their patients...which may or may not be accompanied by a spike in blood glucose readings. It's possible to spike insulin without spiking bgs. Anecdotally in an N=1 experiment for me, I'm opting to reduce a.s. as much as possible in my diet for as long an interval as possible. I can tell you that I lose better when I don't try to make low carb treats/sweets and low carb analogues to high fat, high carb items. My hunger goes down dramatically and weight loss goes up. -

LOL. Oh you don't want to see the girls. The scars aren't bad but there are these little spider veins from radiation damage that travel along the scar and are so ugly. They are like "Barbie" boobs: hard, round mounds that are not "anatomically correct." I'm toying with the idea of getting temporary nerp tattoos to see what they would look like with some surgery on them.
