  1. Good that you are working on this stuff now! It can only increase the odds of your success post surgery. I think working with a therapist to develop a set of behaviors that are grounded in CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) could provide great help. Also EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and other programed designed to develop mindfulness and fascilitate behavior modification helps a lot. Also, getting into an exercise program that is a guided program where you have accountability. Having a local WLS support group is IMHO imperative. Having follow-up visits with your RD post surgery for accountability. Starting your weight loss diet now (your forever healthy diet). Having a creative hobby/outlet. Getting your support network aligned. Breaking up with any known addictions (caffeine, high glycemic carbs, sugar, white things, excessive fruit/fruit juices, sweets, smoking, drugs) Having a very clear view that you ARE choosing long-term change. There is no going back. Yoga and Tai Chi. These are all things that help. Also awareness/education. Learn/read and study your research!

    Weight-loss funnies

Of course, I'm not advocating you drink alcohol after WLS...
  3. Interesting article about the mechanism of PCOS onset and a possible trial for reversing it. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2168705-cause-of-polycystic-ovary-syndrome-discovered-at-last/?fbclid=IwAR3GeQAxHJw7ez7aC5Bw5h_sk7VFloX0jaZt-cc40CsT3SHjx0Z46HQyqV8#.XP6sy4b_OKw.facebook

If you go to your profile and fill it out, then we can better help answer your questions from the correct perspective. The assumption would be you are new and haven't had surgery yet, or you are just out of surgery and still MO.

No. I'm so sorry. It's pretty deep dive body builder brainiac stuff. But he talks about the physiology as well as the psychology too. It's so helpful. I'm gonna go look for more YouTubes from him and see about his book.
  12. Wow. You are so lucky. At 16months that is not my experience.

    Understanding the stall

CICO is a myth. You DO need a caloric deficit but it's very complex. It's all based on hormonal (several) feedback loops.
  15. I'm full bypass rather than mini. But I share your fear and that is why I'm so focused on learning NEW relationships and developing NEW behaviors with food. I actively SEEK and WANT to "eat really healthy" as often, and as much as I can--understanding that life happens, and recidivism is a real deal--especially for someone who made it to a lifetime invite to the Obesity Ball. I got my operation and have a new tummy/gut tool. But my fat brain, is still my big fat brain. And I'm using my honeymoon period to recondition it--or maybe to condition it for the very first time in my life but using good sturdy principles taught by my surgical team and RD. I depend on their rules, cuz they know from experience what works. I'm training my dragon (fat brain). So your question really raises a red flag with me. The concept that "small portions" will see you through to life-long weigh maintenance at your goal weight is just that--a myth. Dr. Weiner addresses this in some of his latest YouTube videos. He says you simply can NOT pretend to believe that myth--it will let you down every time.
