Remind yourself about your WHY. Why did you choose to engage in this journey? What was it that pushed you past the point of potentiation and caused you to pull the trigger on entering your surgeon's WLS program? What were your longterm visions. Always focus on your WHY. It's the ultimate payout and keeps you focused. It's your touchstone. Remember, we will do anything to rationalize our addictions and to live life with our confirmation bias. We WANT to remain in homeostasis and avoid change. We will defend our beliefs and belief systems unto death.

Ok, so I used my weight today of 135lbs. My SBMI score is 34/70 (Normal range is 30/70-39/70). My BMI is 23. And here's the cool write-up it gives for my age and activity. (click to enlarge)

Yay!!! That's outstanding!!! Congrats on being at goal and being at a BMI of 22!!! Woot!!!! And congrats on your SBMI score of 33/70!!! What's cool for me (cuz remember I'm so average), is that it does affirm that the old BMI chart works for me too. The two are I think almost identical. But I loved how in depth this tool went into explaining things. I'll post my write up below, so others can see how cool the info is! I love it when science works. Don't you?

One month post op, difficult getting in calories and protein!
FluffyChix replied to MFaulk3's topic in Food and Nutrition
Congrats on being 36lbs down already!!! So what are you eating? Give us a couple days of menus. Maybe we can spot something of give you suggestions? ^^^^This is great advice! Every doctor's plan is different!!! So different. And their path for you is geared based on their huge experience with their patients. So follow the plan!! Here's a couple days of snapshot of where I was at one month PO. I'm RNY: (click to enlarge) -
I have gained 10lbs in a year and im worried I cant get rid of it and ill gain more!

Not on my keto! I don't eat a lot of cheese and rarely eat bacon. Both are super calorie dense. So if I eat cheese, it's an ounce (or 2 -- rarely) a day (if that) and it's always the reduced fat, no sugar low carb kind like: Light Cheese Wedges or 2% natural cheeses, or part skim mozzarella. Instead of bacon, I like the Hillshire Farms Naturals Black Forest Ham which is 3 slices for 50 calories and 9g protein and 1g carbs. I eat only protein to my protein specifications and try to target 30g of total carbs (when I'm being good and on plan) and add healthy fat (avocado, nuts, seeds, nut butters, olives, olive oil, avocado oil, butter) to my calorie goal for the day. Total easy peasy. I end up with a ton of veggies and sometimes a little dark berries for that amount and lean dense protein. -
OMG! You look fabulous!!!! So great to see you!!! I think we might be twins! Our shapes are very similar!!! (And the pants fit you across your hips but may already be too big lower down around your knees. Next month they will be huge on you!!!)

🍽️ 🍽️ What's on the Menu? 🍽️ 🍽️
FluffyChix replied to ms.sss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ha. Cuz we all know how imperfect I am. I'm on a string of hungry hungry heifer days. And today it stops. I'm calling the ball on the shenanigans. Yesterday I'm just gonna call a "feast" day. *snort* and it ended with baseball at the park and our minor league team -- which was a big event and fun, but ended in a rainout. Now today it's time to pay the frickin' piper and I'm back in black--on plan with a vengeance. It's another swamped day with work. So no time for bs from the kitchen and my tummy. (I honestly can't believe I'm not up a couple pounds just from the sheer volume of poo that I didn't have issues with yesterday. I think my tum is getting back to normal. Yay probiotics!!! So 5"4" 👵 17m PO (WLM) 135.8lbs B1-coffee with PP creamer B2-egg white puff (HSF ham + froz spin + o/c/p + 2% cheese) L1-sauteed broccoli + iced cocomojoe protein coffee L2-lo grilled fish + lo avo/tom salad AS-BH turkey + lt string cheese roll-up + baby carrots D-1/2 crispy beef taco + 1/4 taco al carbon + guacamole + charro beans/rice + tortilla chips & salsa S-2c baseball popcorn (buttered) I think this is goin' down as an all-time example of what NOT to do in a day. I'm pretty sure this is the definition of grazing. None of the meals were big (except the 2c of popcorn). Some of them were only 1/8-1/4c, but still a ridiculous number of insulin elevations. How did y'all do yesterday? -
A rave and a rant ... (I sure do miss eating)
FluffyChix replied to Coleslaw's topic in Rants & Raves
^^^^^This is huge! My RD gave me this advice when I was very early out. She told me that years later, she still has some patients who have a protein shake and get 25-30g of protein in early in the day, so they can have more "mixed meals" or veggie only meals. Or veg/fruit only meals. And she felt like that helped give more balance. I also agree with everyone here who mentioned that you are very early on in the process and so your restriction is really high. But over time, your tool will mature and will allow more food. You just need to be prepared for that so you make good choices when that happens. Rants/raves/grieving is important!!! This is a safe place to do it! Congrats on your 40lb loss, the exercise plan which will tone and build strength and endurance--yay woman!!! And all of these things are gonna give you so much confidence. I would suggest a mindset change tho. Shift and reframe the situation. Instead of ranting about the change, shift it and know this is a precious, fleeting, very short window-of-opportunity where your food limitations will give you the biggest bang for your wls buck! (ie lose the most weight for the least amount of effort). KISS. Keep it simple. I used to be a huge foodie. LOVED (still love) the whole shebang--process. Used to make elaborate meals. Used to entertain and plate things specially, etc. And now, we seriously grill or pan sautee a lean protein (often a few meals in advance and fridge it), then take 5-10 minutes to steam, pan sautee or roast a veg and have some avo/tom salad. LOL. That's almost every nightly meal (with a cheat meal thrown in every so often cuz I'm not an angel). And it works. B-L are no brainers and just about getting protein in and ending hunger. When going out, share with hubs. Do an app and eat a bite or two. Do a fancy salad and eat a bite. Do a lush entree and eat a bite or two...and be done. Have an espresso with heavy cream for dessert! It makes it more fun! If you want to get fancy pants at home, look up Gordon Ramsay on The YouTube and look at how he prepares "mains" and plates them up beautifully for home use. Do that! Pick a perfect protein. Make it like a chef and plate it with a baby fancy pants veg. Make it sparkle and look beautiful. Share the plate with hubs. No leftovers. Total satisfaction. ORRRRRRR start reframing your relationship with food and balance that interest with new, active, non-food pursuits that involve your hubs...like nightly walks together and then come home to your KISS meal of protein + veg + healthy fat...or even more-bettah: play nekkidy twister with him, or strip monopoly. Good times! You'll figure it out. Sorry for the book. But this hit home with me and this was the transition that really helped soothe me. -
Stella, with the macros you just mentioned you are actually the poster child for "perfect" keto as it was originally defined by Dr. Atkins and Dr. Westman. LOL. Which is cool. But I don't think @heycrystal2052 wants to be that low. And that's cool too! I love the spark or awareness she had when @GreenTealael posted her screen captures. Love light bulb moments. And I bet she will do awesome and get back to losing with just recharting her food plan a little bit toward the <100 or <75g of carbs per day. Maybe even 50g of carbs would allow her to keep fats low and still give her enough carb diversity to keep her full!! Just for grins I plugged your macros in Stella and this is what it shows. Perfect "keto" or LCHF (low carb healthy fat) as I love to call it. I use the free MFP program so it only allows me 5% increments rather than 1% increments to adjust to macro targets:

Jump on it now! Come join us in the daily menu thread! We're either trying to lose or trying to maintain. And sadly, as little as 50-100calories beyond what we need energy wise can put 10lbs on us in a year. So I would honestly go back to the plan that got you to goal in the first place (not talking a pouch reset). I mean your "forever diet" from your doctor. 1 cup volume MAX per meal 60-80g protein/day (no liquid calories--don't drink your protein, chew it) protein first no eating and drinking at the same time or within 30 mins after eating ditch the crap (carbonation, refined sugars, artificial foods, processed foods) concentrate on: Lean dense protein + low glycemic veggies + healthy fats (and if room left, then low glycemic fruits) exercise daily (walk 60 minutes per day) 3 meals--no snacking! (and if it helps, restrict your eating into a compressed eating window of 16:8 or 18:6) get 100+ oz of fluid per day Join us on our Daily Menu Thread!! -
I know and you're right. But getting pis*ed and being defensive doesn't help or improve your position. You're right! But for your sake, you just have to label it as unimportant and choose to move on from that. And if necessary, then you limit your exposure to the toxic people. And live your best life. But that can be lonely if you don't have new people to form a bond.
-
Sigh. Yeah I'd be hungry too with that carb load. Wish it wasn't true but it is. The answer really is to eat the stuff that fills up your pouch. chicken and veg. I can handle a bite or two of beans. I can handle 2oz of Grk yogurt plain + 1oz of dark berries (no nectarines/peaches)...and can mix in an ounce of lf cultured cottage cheese to up the quantity. Any more than that and I will be starving and or RH within 2 hours. So I just flat force myself to eat lean protein dry and plain and steamed or nuked veg with a tiny bit of olive oil and sometimes a little avo/tomato at night...it's pretty plain but I have gotten to where I crave that plain-ness. You know? Especially if it keeps me satisfied (usually).
-
Totally get it! Ok, now I only "walk/jog"...but I get up in the morning and do 30-45 minutes of running. Then I do 2 times of a 15 or 20 minute run or walk. I "try" to do that every day. But at least 6 days per week. Additionally, 2 days a week, I try to do 20-30 minutes of core exercises on my own (pilates/isometric/band stuff)...so by their definition...
-
Absolutely agree. The prob that I can see is that she has a "set calorie threshold" that she wants to stay within and your cals are made up on only the 3 macros: protein, fat, carbs. So if you keep carbs low enough to get into keto...for most of us that's around 30g total carb max, then you have to fill up her calorie threshold with either protein or fat. OR drop the cals. Which is what I do. So she either has to eat a ton of protein (which can keep you out of ketosis) or she has to eat a wad of fat, which none of us need right now. Right? The solution is to really simply just hit your daily protein goal, stay at your carb # that you've set and let fat fall until you are comfortable and where those cals end up are where they end up. Mine usually is somewhere between 650-850 per day using that general rule.
-
This sounds totes norm. Gah! What is their dealio?
-
Yeah the Ruled Me calc is cool. So here's the thing. If you keep fat low, then your only other choice is to up the protein and up the carbs. And both of those will keep you out of ketosis. But it could still be a low carb diet. For instance, here is one at 1000cals: I'd bet dollars for donuts you would never see ketosis. But would it be healthy? It could be. If you aren't super duper metabolically broken and make good carb choices (leafy greens, low glycemic veg, etc)...

Ok y'all swamped today! Gah! So 5"4" 👵 17m PO (WLM) 135.2lbs B1 protein latte B2 egg puff (egg whites, 1 sl HSF ham, froz spin/onion/p/c, lt cheese wedge) + decaff L BH peppermill turkey breast + lacy swiss + raw sauerkraut + baby carrots + grape tomatoes AS chicken bouillon + iced cocomojoe protein coffee decaff D blackened pangasius (basa) + sauteed broccoli + avocado and grape tomatoes BS seaweed snax Gah! I have no idea wtf is going down with me. I wake up starving and want to eat every 3 hours. It's totes CRAY!!! Maybe it's my body healing? Maybe it's the big D and I'm not absorbing. Maybe the D5LR IV in the hospital put me back on the blood sugar/insulin rollercoaster, but "we" (all 3 of me=me, myself, and I ) are not amused! I stayed within my framework and cals were low but still. And I'm not losing weight. I'm just stuck at 134-135lbs. Oh well...bi*ching over. And FYI today is equally insane. -
Here they are if you want to target 80g of protein and 30g total carbs (non-netted)
-
You (and everyone) should come join us on the daily menu thread. We eat all different kinds of diets there. We just started it. But I love it for being a touchstone!
-
Mine fluctuate really. If I'm having an issue, then I eat less fat and just end up eating fewer cals for the day. It's not that much per meal, lean protein plus maybe 1/2tsp of olive oil or 1oz of avocado. It adds up very quickly. So it's not as if I'm eating gooey cheesy casseroles dense in cals/fat. Right? And pretty much, if we still have fat strapped to our as*es, we have enough "fat" that we won't go into rabbit starvation (too high protein and too low fat). LOL. The body will just choose to burn the fat on our bum rather than the fat in our diet. So these are just a loose guide for me each day. Even my protein fluctuates. Some days I eat way higher than that and other days I struggle. I just don't force it anymore and my protein, albumin, and pre-albumin are just perfect every test. So I don't worry. I'm usually in the 36-45g of fat per day very loosely. No tummy issues. But if I did that in one meal? I'd be in trouble.
-
Yay! Welcome back girl! I missed you! So I don't do "keto" by the modern definition with a wad of fat cuz it makes me want to hurl. I do kind of Dukan style. Lower fat LCHF. And I use MFP. Here's my goal but you can easily adjust to have more protein and less fat. I was doing 70 g protein and even less fat. And it was easy if you applied yourself.

Ask yourself. Does it SOUND ok to you? Does it sound like you need an extra 200 calories when you're trying to maximize your honeymoon period? Cuz, that would not be my choice for me. But we're all different and it sure seems like you're losing. So dunno. -
