Frustr8 good luck, just remember learn as much about your surgery as possible before speaking with them. They really just want to know if you are aware that it is a lifestyle change and that you need to incorporate diet and exercise and it's not a quick fix. They also want to make sure you know what your surgery and how it works, the positives and the negatives of it, etc. browneyez42 That looks amazing. We are both doing almost the same exact diet!!!! We really are surgery twins! I hate magnesium citrate but am still going to do the two bottles day before surgery. I love premier protein and swear by it. It gets tiresome but I cannot drink protein powder I cannot stand the grittiness to it. The premier gives 30 g of protein a bottle so two meets your daily protein intake and doubles as 22 oz of fluid intake as well. -

Absolutely, I'm a ball of nerves. To get my mind off of the surgery waiting I've started a little game of seeing how many pounds I can lose before the surgery. This helps me not be so anxious. My mother always used to tell me to never wish time away and that every day should be enjoyed. So I am trying to not wish time to fly so the game to see how much weight I can lose counteracts my anxiousness for the surgery to come. I'm 218 right now and have a goal to be 200 or below by the 25th. This way I can look forward to having 11 days to try to drop 18 lbs. It might not happen but at least in the meantime it distracts me. I'm having the sleeve as well. My iron already runs low so I really didn't like all the extreme deficiencies that the bypass caused. I know the sleeve has some but I believe that the vitamins I can take and the protein I can ingest will counteract most of it. How are you doing so far? -

YAYYYYYYY!!!!! Hi Surgery Buddy. My surgery is the same day and I am also on day 4 of my clear pre op liquid diet. It's not too bad but I think it is because I am meeting 60 grams of protein though my premier protein shakes (30 grams protein each) and I am taking all of my vitamins/calcium vits as well. I am also drinking 64 oz or more and I am loving PowerAde Zero right now. I've only had my two shakes and PowerAde Zero and a cup of decaf coffee today and I'm not hungry at all. Head hunger is there but I love practicing avoiding that before surgery. My husband doesn't eat around me so he's helping me through it as well. So glad to see someone else on the same journey!!!! Are you doing the sleeve or bypass? -
Head says "Eat! Eat! Eat!" How do I get through it?!

I bought a treadmill of Craigslist that is a NICE model for only $150. I am deterred by exercise when I have to go somewhere and do it especially in crummy weather.....I live in Wisconsin and it changes on the drop of a dime. I put my treadmill in my garage and it causes me to just sometimes out of nowhere jump up and go for a walk with my headphones and a pump up song. Its a great getaway for myself and I love music so it's awesome. This might be a great idea so you can go for a walk whenever you want and never have to leave home if its crummy or inconvenient or you just don't feel like doing your hair and makeup and want to wear your ugly pair of sweats. I also keep resistance bands...I work for PT so I have the rubber bands for free, also I fill up gallon water jugs with water to give me something to lift. Gatorade bottles filled with sand also work great. -
okay so sf hot chocolate sounds fantastic!!

Anxiety and Surgery
mitchjoann132010 replied to mitchjoann132010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi wjgo when I created the post I said it is from Anxiety & OCPD. The OCPD is the part where I've been a perfectionist planning everything to a T from the Pre-Op steps that my insurance has made me jump through for the past 10 months which has caused me to be stressed and has caused me to overplan. But yes like the title of the post it is in regards to Anxiety and Surgery and like you stated the worrying that it can bring on even during and after surgery is very stressful. It is common for most people however it can become exacerbated when you do already have anxiety as that is what anxiety is.... and obviously if this is the first surgery someone has ever had it can make a stressful situation become even more stressful. Thanks for the warning on no sleep. I know they say that it is really important to get sleep for the recovery process so I will try to get some essential oils or something to maybe help the sleeping process before surgery. -
Plus mio has sugar and calories even though its low quantity.

I really hate the mio drops and the crystal light, they taste very artificial to me so I gave them all to my husband, it was sad because I had some great sounding flavors!!

SUMMARY: 1. OCD is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder where as OCPD is Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder. 2. Obsessions and compulsion are present in OCD and not present in OCPD 3. Symptoms of OCD often fluctuate at times, but with little change in personality. 4. OCPD seeks treatment because of some conflicts; OCD seeks treatment because of psychological stress. 5. A person with OCD is preoccupied with behaviors that are senseless while a person with OCPD is obsessed with rules, organization and perfection. Read more: Difference Between OCD and OCPD | Difference Between http://www.differencebetween.net/science/health/difference-between-ocd-and-ocpd/#ixzz5CfLEZgk5 You bet, it sounds like your husband definitely had OCD whereas it sounds like you have developed OCPD traits like me. The main difference between OCD and OCPD is that OCPD doesn't really cause diruptions in everday life whereas OCD and the obsessions cause a person to not be able to properly follow through with some everyday tasks. For instance, your husband having the tap the doorframe could have caused him to be late for work (not that he was) but if he happened to be running late one day he still would have preferred to run late so he could tap the doorframe causing a disruption in everyday life. OCPD is obsessed with organizing, list, planning ahead. These traits are normal to most people however we tend to carry it a little overboard for instance if I created a calendar for April and wrote in my schedule, if there is a slight change to the schedule that I would have to pencil in onto the printed sheet, I would create the entire sheet again from scratch just because I would hate that one flaw of a pencil mark. -
I know the fear, it can get better with some low impact strengthening exercises, plus to look at the bright side if I do need to get a knee replacement in the future at least they last up to 20 years and I'll be part bionic.

Okay, so I work both Physical Therapy and Urgent Care. I know, an obese sleeve patient in PT, ironic right? However, upon talking with our therapist they said that you are not going to want to do any jumping exercises as it puts too much pressure on your joints until you lose weight. It sucks to have to wait but this can help you not damage your knees or hips. You see a lot of patients post op who strain their joints too much and need replacements. I'm not saying this to deter you but to hopefully offer you some insight. It is no joke the amount of obese patients early in their 30's who are post surgery replacements and I feel that bringing that weight down on your joints in the form of jump roping would just exacerbate the situation. There are many modification's to your favorite exercises that are low impact on your joints. Please be careful!!!!!!

DaleCruse you are right. With OCPD it is channeled in a more positive form but it has become a weakness with this situation. I appreciate that I am not the only one out there like this!!!!! Frustr8 I love your positivity! You are very inspirational and somehow just from reading your post it takes a little more stress out of this situation. I love the way you look at things it's magnetic!! -

That is a great way to look at things and honestly calmed me down a little bit even as a read it. I'm thinking of creating a list of reasons like that and take it with me that day when I feel anxious. I think since its my first surgery it's just a little terrifying that I'm letting go of all control and putting my body in someone else's hands to cut parts out of me. -

2 Week Pre Op Liquid Diet

I know right! I'm not knocking anyone's experience but I would give anything for the to just be able to chew some actual food. My doctor is way strict but I will have to follow their rules. At least I know if I can make it through this I can make it through anything!! -

I love your creativity when it came to the broths! I hadn't thought of going that outside of the box and the different flavors would be a welcome addition to the monotonous clear liquid diet I'm already struggling through! -

I would give anything to have tuna and veggies. Can we all just combine the best parts of our diets and have popsicles tuna and veggies for two weeks~ I am so excited to see someone with the same surgery date/liquid diet as me!!!!!!! Super nervous here even though I've been a cool cucumber for the past 10 month journey. I love the idea of ice making a smoothie. I think it's really the texture I'm missing and having something to chew even if it is minuscule!! -

I am on the 2 week pre op liquid diet that started Wednesday. My surgery is April 25th. Unfortunately, I wish I could eat pudding and yogurt however my doctor has me on a CLEAR liquid diet which means I am restricted to broth, sf jello, sf popsicles, mio, crystal light etc. I can have protein shakes however but those get tiresome real fast. I am having no trouble meeting my fluid intake however I am so hungry I'm nauseous and not now. I've been feeling foggy, and occasionally dizzy even though I am taking vitamins religiously all of the ones my doctor told me to. Does anyone know of anything I can add to my clear liquid diet to give me a little reprieve? -
