  1. RNY scheduled for 8/9. Dr hoping it will reduce my pain, nausea, and improve motility. Wondering if anyone else out there had gastroparesis before their surgery and what their experience was like.
  2. It might be too early but have you noticed any relief from the GP symptoms?
  3. I've noticed on YouTube and IG that so many RNYers are eating keto. I've been a vegetarian and part-time vegan for 18 years (actually started that after trying Atkins diet!) There's got to be people out there meeting both their nutrition and weight loss goals by eating vegetarian or vegan. Help, I need your feedback!

    Protein intake question

I can't do anything with aspartame, Splenda, artificial flavors. I've been using Isopure unflavored powder. It's amazing. I can put it in almost any hot or cold liquid. Zero taste, sometimes it does change the texture/viscosity a tiny bit. It goes perfectly in broth, soup, smoothies, vitamin water, etc. Got a huge tub on Amazon.

Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta. What about you?
  6. I have gastroparesis and am having trouble with the pre-op diet. Some days I'm so nauseous all I can get in is a bit of water and some crackers. Unfortunately, carbs are easier on my stomach. And I've found I can't do any of protein drinks/powder that have artificial sweeteners and flavors- they make me so sick. I've lost about 10 lbs. So here's my question- has anyone's surgeon actually postponed or cancelled surgery because of non-compliance with the pre-op diet?

    Pre-op diet difficulty

I just got back from my preop appt. I told the surgeon and he said not to worry- just do my best. So, that's good.

    I GOT MY DATE!(AUGUST )SURGERIES WHERE U @

I just got back from my pre-op appointment and PAT. I've had tons of surgeries but this one has me spooked. I love my surgeon- he's kind and thoughtful, and also director of the bariatric program for the entire hospital system. I keep second guessing my decision. I'm self-pay, so that's a very big part of my worry. So very expensive.

    Any vegetarians/vegan RNYers out there?

Can you let me know what forum was suggested? I'd love to check it out. I forgot to mention eggs! I will be eating those for protein. So soy, dairy, eggs, legumes, beans, nuts. Not sure how long after surgery I'll have to wait to add legumes, beans, and nuts. Maybe in puréed form, so hummus and nut butter. I also have Crohn's Disease and gastroparesis, which means many times I can't handle the high fiber plant protein sources. As much as I'd like to get rid of dairy and eggs I still need them. Also remember that vegetarian/vegan doesn't automatically mean healthy. Pop Tarts, Oreos, and lots of other crap foods are vegan!

    Any vegetarians/vegan RNYers out there?

I've been a vegetarian for 18 years, and more recently a part-time vegan. My surgery is scheduled for Aug 9. I won't be eating any meat and will rely mostly on dairy and soy for protein. Hopefully once I'm back on solid food I can get rid of most of the dairy and get in more plant protein. But I'm just going to take it day by day.
  13. Thanks! How has your gastroparesis been since the surgery? I'm really hoping for a big reduction in pain and nausea, as well as better motility.
  14. Having gastric bypass is my Gastroenterologist's last ditch effort to help treat my gastroparesis. I also have Crohn's disease, in remission right now. Also Hashimoto's, fibromyalgia, migraines, and a host of bizarre autoimmune problems. I'm barely eating and should weigh 90 lbs, but I continue to gain weight, even after having my thyroid out. Dr hopes the RNY will ease my stomach pain, nausea, and poor motility.

Anyone having RNY to help gastroparesis?

Pain and nausea are my current reality every day. I can't imagine the surgery making it worse. How is your gastroparesis after surgery? Any improvement?
