I'm starting to think about what I need to bring. Last night at my meeting, most of them said don't bring much. My list has: slippers (my hospital has theses for patients too) toothbrush/toothpaste chapstick hairbrush comfy clothes for the car ride home insurance card and other paperwork $$$ to pay the deductible before surgery My band friends said that's about it. What do you think you'll pack?

I had my surgery this morning!!
Jo Skinnie replied to alicatcyclist's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, that was a quick in and out. Sounds like you're doing very well. Congrats on being banded! Happy walking and sipping your water! -
My red thongs were the first thing I put in the bag. Just kidding! Travelgirl - how sweet of your niece!

Everyone having lap band at my hospital stays overnight. They like to make sure the pain is okay and they start the walking a few times the first day. The second day is when I'll drink the dye so they can check that the fluids are working accordingly. Once that is checked, then I'll be discharged, probably by 11 a.m. or so.

Hi Mandilou! Congrats on your upcoming wedding! You have a lot going on right now. I had my 6 mo appt on Feb 29. I had my approval on March 12. Met with the surgeon on March 20. It's at that appt that we set the surgery date for April 17. I think I could have scheduled it earlier, but that's the best for my schedule.

When did you see the nutritionist and psych?
Jo Skinnie replied to BabyNicole's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Attended info meeting met with nurse clinician at the bariatric center started my 6 mos supervised weight loss with my primary dr met with the nut met with the psych 3 times (inital meeting, took the MMPI, then got the results and approval) 2nd appt with nurse clinician for band training I didn't meet the surgeon until BCBS gave approval for the surgery -
I'm so excited for you! Sorry to hear about TOM. Good luck tomorrow! My thoughts are with you. :puke:

I don't think you'll see much because you're on liquids. You could probably put something like Benefiber in your liquids. That might help. Anyone else use anything like that? I'm drawing a blank on other product names right now. I won't be on liquids until the day before surgery.

Bulimia in the past....
Jo Skinnie replied to JRT Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About 15 years ago I had a short time of binge/purge. It only happened a few times, so I never really considered myself bullemic per se. I did discuss it at my psych eval. She said as long as it was so many years ago and I had not attempted anything like that recently, it wasn't a concern for her. -
Keeping it a secret?
Jo Skinnie replied to Fluffy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not ready for any negative comments, so I have told a very limited amount of people about getting the band. These are the ones who know: DH Brother, SIL and niece (she's in college) About 4 people at work -

has anyone else experienced anyting like this????
Jo Skinnie replied to VIRGO_GIRL824's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, I'm so sorry you went through that! I gotta give you credit for doing it cold turkey. Not many people would hang on like you did! -
List all your medical problems. Like the others said, it will help you get approved. The co-morbities will only re-enforce the need for WLS for you. Good luck!

Had a panic attack
Jo Skinnie replied to Scarlett O'hara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely tell the counselor so you can get help with the PA. I hope you don't go through that again! Good luck! -
Had my surgery cancelled!!!
Jo Skinnie replied to yvonneky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh that stinks! On the other hand, I'm not sure I'd want my dr to operate on me if he had a migraine. I get those and it's not pretty. How terrible that they brought you in a second time without first getting their team together! At least you know it will happen. Hang in there. Keep thinking about where you will be a year from now. How exciting! -
Soda - Is this dumb?
Jo Skinnie replied to SanDiegoPhotog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went cold turkey around the beginning of the year. I did great until yesterday when I didn't have any water and took a few sips of DH's Dr Pepper. It was actually easier to kick than I had thought. I just make sure I have plenty of Crystal Light on hand - except for my slip yesterday, of course! -
I thought about it. My hospital gives robes to patients so I might not bring mine. One less thing to pack!

Hi everyone! I finally decided I had lurked long enough...My surgery date is April 17! I'm looking forward to being on the Losers Bench with all of you!

Any other April Avengers worried about Erosion or Slippage?
Jo Skinnie replied to Alicia99's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I told my surgeon I'm an average, boring person so I'm assuming everything will go accordingly! I have a very good surgeon with very low complication rate. I've done all my research and feel good about my choice to do this. I'll deal with whatever happens if it happens. -
Being nervous is normal. This is a lot to think about. It is a big change for life. I'm excited, nervous and happy all at once. I keep focusing on where I will be in a year from now. I can't wait!

What are your non-scale-related goals?
Jo Skinnie replied to LisaB411's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
To keep up with my two, young daughters! That's the biggest goal. I just want to run, swim, ride bikes and whatever else they come up with! Other goals are less "serious" so to speak! In high school I had a cheap bracelet that was suppose to fit around my wrist, but I was so tiny back then that I always pushed it up around my upper arm. I want to do that again! This next one involves DH...After I hit goal and have a tummy tuck...I want the two of us to go to some exotic beach where I can lay around all day in a bikini! LOL I'm sure he would like that too! -
Pre-surgery diets... what does YOUR doc require?
Jo Skinnie replied to cori in wa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I started the process, my nurse at the bariatric center told me I needed to lose 14 lbs. I'm down 18 lbs! Now that Im approved and have met my surgeon, he wants me to lose another 5 before the surgery on April 17. I can and have been, losing weight how I want to. I'm still tracking WW points because that's what I'm used to. I have been focusing in more Protein, low fat and low carb. The day before surgery I'm suppose to do all liquids. That's about it! -
Welcome! I'm from MN also. My surgery is scheduled for April 17th. Good luck with everything!
-
Protein - High-Protein Foods and Amount of Protein in Each food This is a list I have looked at in the past. I hope this helps.

Hi, I'm Jo. I was recently approved and have my surgery date set for April 17th. I thought it was time to come out of lurker mode. I'm married. We have 2 beautiful daughters who are 6 and 3. DH and I both work full time. I love to scrapbook. He's into hunting, fishing and now camping since he just bought a pop up tent camper for us. Feel free to ask me questions if you like. I'm sure I'll have plenty for everyone else!
