  1. I went for my 6 week post-op on Tuesday & found out that I have bacterial (walking) pneumonia. I told my surgeon that I was having intermittent sharp pain in my right side, under the rib cage and I mistakenly believed that I had worked out too hard on Monday. He sent me for a ct-scan then an x-ray. I am shocked since I don't have a cough, cold symptoms, no fever, nothing. Post-op I used my spirometer faithfully & never had any breathing problems. Has anyone heard of this complication so far out from surgery?

    Gastric Bypass

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! Nerves are so very normal as is excitement for a big life change. I was afraid of failure mainly but also excited by the prospect of the scale finally moving in my favor. If possible attend a support group meeting before surgery. I learned a lot from the vets online & in person. Keep us informed.
  3. Thanks for the ideas. I love Syntrax caramel macchiato & cappuccino. I blend crushed ice with all of my protein shakes to get the added water and make them less thick. The Premier shakes are thick by themselves but with ice they have more of a Smoothie King texture.
  4. My Dr. & NUT don't allow any variety of gummies. Not really sure why but I am definitely going to ask at my 6 week post op visit. I'm going to try the chewable Biotin & increase my vitamin D. Since my nails are already rebelling I'm afraid my hair is next . . .
  5. Same here with my nails lifting & being very soft/brittle. I am trying fungi nail serum applied at night for the lifting & applying a nail hardener daily. Pre surgery I took hair, skin, & nails gummies but can't take them now. I'm thinking it is a result of vitamin deficiency maybe?

    STRUGGLING!

You look fabulous! I am inspired by your loss of inches/kg in such a short time. What you are doing is obviously working but you may have hit a plateau and will have to battle through. I get the fear of self sabotage and feel the fear of potential failure at only five weeks out. We are our own worst enemy.

    Fluid issues

Try Powerade Zero too. I also developed trouble getting plain water to stay down. I read an article by a surgeon who said to blow all air out through your nose before swallowing anything to limit the amount of air going down. It has been working for me although I still struggle to get all my water in. Hope you get some relief.
  8. I have GERD & Barrett's Esophagus and the sleeve is not recommended in either case. I learned this from my surgeon and Gastroenterologist. I am three weeks post-op and down to only one medication for GERD where I was taking three medications pre-op. I have only had break through reflux twice since gastric bypass RNY surgery, which for me is a miracle. Once you start the pre-op process with a surgeon they will explain the options. Constipation

Yeeeeesssssss - plagued by constipation at 3 weeks post-op. I referred to the Post Surgery book given by my Dr. & tried Miralax, Dulcolax, Dieter's Tea, and probiotics. Dulcolax seemed to help more than anything. Since I have already had a partial small bowel blockage I also have talked to the Dr.'s office. Dulcolax seemed to help more than anything. When I am not able to go I'm not able to eat either. Prune juice daily should do the trick but know that it's high in sugar and carbs. Hope you get relief soon.

    Swallowing without air?

Like posted above, it really does help to blow air out of your nose after you take a sip/drink. I am not allowed to use a straw but I sure wish that I could. I always used a straw pre-op so this is a struggle.
