  1. I am a stay at home mother, due to my husband working night. I am the one that shops and prepares meals 6 days out of the week. I was wondering if there were any single parents or parents that have had/are having surgery. How did you manage changing your diet when you have a family? How did you prepare before the surgery? I know my husband is totally on board with healthier eating, but I worried about how I will eat the first few weeks after the surgery.i have growing child, so i know I will have food in the house that will be tempted especially when I have to cook dinner for my husband and daughter. How did you guys handle situations like this? Thanks for your help

I'm learning all that right now.
Post op day 6 and I feel good but that means back to normal. I do all the shopping and meal prep for my family. Before surgery I stocked up on things I needed and things they could eat quick. Then yesterday was the first day out and got easy meal prep things for them that I could do.

Last 2 nights I have made them dinner with no problem. Just when they eat have some of your broth with them. You won't feel hungry but you will miss eating with them.. Its the mental hunger that's hard to deal with. When you can eat solids just make things you can all have. Its an adjustment but I have made them full on meals and it hasn't been that bad :). Plan ahead if you can!

  2. What did you do? I am a single Mom and still in the beginning stages. Second visit with surgeon, 1st Appt with my other Drs, because of Lupus. Once I have surgery, how am I supposed to take care of an extremely picky eater, rambunctious 4th old? Any suggestions?

About 9 years ago (and a single mom of a 2 year old) I had a lap band put in. Recently that broke and when they went in to take it out I had them also do a sleeve. Because I was a single mom I didn't believe I had the down time to be out for recovery for long for the sleeve in the first place which is why I did the Lap-Band instead. Not the greatest idea I've ever had. Band wasn't great and has in the long run been way worse!

So fast forward to your concern... you are going to be out for a few days whatever way you decide to go. Get a parent to come stay with you, a friend somebody that can help you for about 3 days. Then you will be fine with your baby on your own I believe. Its a lot to think about but worth the stress getting things worked out :)

  3. I'm not sure if I'll have a pain pump but they do seem to be very proactive about pain. They've given me RXs for Gabapentin (I'm guessing for nerve pain? Maybe it'll help the gas pain!?) And for Celebrex (def for inflammation) to take before the surgery. I'm hopefully over mentally prepared so it's not as bad as I'm expecting! Totally ready to walk!

I feel you on the heart hunger. I've been doing a lot of soul searching these past few days. I've got to find something I love to fill my binge holes (minus my mouth lol) and I'm already about entirely divorced from Protein Shakes so it's gonna be Water and a new hobby. Think I'm gonna try to put more effort into learning to draw.

That sounds amazing! You are already on your way to finding other things and drawing sounds perfect!

Sounds like your facility is on top of it too! They are really good managing the pain you will be great! See... Nothing to worry about! I can't wait to hear how you rock this when you are out!!

  4. Worried about pain as we get closer!! And my overwhelming desire to binge because I've been so hungry on this two week mostly liquid diet! Deprivation definitely triggers binges for me. I'm hangry and ready to get on with the surgery if only to not be ..So..hangry.

I hear you!! Hangry is the exact word I used before I went in lol!! Keep busy! Fill your days and thank God its almost Tuesday!

  5. I'm so glad I'm single and child free for that reason!! I'm hard enough to deal with on my own lol. Glad to hear you're doing well. I'm starting to get a little worried about the pain. I feel like I'm getting less pain tolerant with age--maybe it's just more anxious lol. Keep up the good work. It sounds like you're in high spirits! What's been the hardest part for you so far?

You know what the pain is a worry but they are super aware of that... You will have an iv and probably a button so you can give yourself meds lol.. I did. I have been home for 2 days and haven't needed the meds. Took some the night I came home just to sleep and that was it. Every person is different but if you are prepared for hurting you will be ok. Walk... Walk as soon as you can and as often and that helps. It's not unbearable :)... The not knowing and anxiety is worse I think :)

The hardest part for me is the mental hunger. I want to eat! I'm not hungry but I am struggling with that. Good thing is seems like something is always going in my mouth (water sips or Protein Shake sips) so I hope it goes away lol... If you have that problem take up another hobby! I have been crocheting like a little old lady but its helping lol... Blankets for everyone!!

  6. How are YOU doing?!

Aw you are sweet! Thank you for asking I'm doing really good! Hard to get a schedule going to get all the fluids in but pain is almost gone and feeling good. I think the most difficult part will be feeding the family and not myself while I'm cooking ;) but for now everyone is fending for themselves very nicely!
