Hey, So theres a growing thought after reading some horror stories regarding WLS and dental issues. Read a few stories of people loosing their teeth, having crazy cavity issues etc. Not sure if its from acid reflux from other surgeries like RnY or what not, but as a sleever I'm curious what to expect now that I'm in the post op life here. For you with some long term success have you experienced any of this? Any info would be great from you seasoned vets. M

So I am 6 weeks post. And I feel super normal. Like, according to my Dr. I should be still not able to eat much, not be able to handle carbs or sugars. But NOPE. I can eat whatever within reason... still get that full feeling and when eating too fast can overeat and get that gross pain feeling. Anyways, I am now capping my calorie intake to 1000 because if I don't watch it, those slider foods/grazing can definitely sneak my calories higher than that. Not that I'm complaining too much. I'm down 59lbs as of today. Which is awesome. But I am a little jealous of those who still have zero desire for food or that still have those "danger zone" foods that the stomach doesn't like. Let the mental games begin...

Sherry Rice - Life is cruising by and I'm just trying to keep up. Health wise I'm 90lbs down in the 4ish months so far post and know I can do better with what I eat. I come to realize I can eat anything and everything with zero restrictions of feeling sick after. So discipline is the game plan. Some days are better than others. But I don't really stress too much. My wife whips my ass in shape if I stray too far. My protein sits around 90-120g daily. Depending if I get my regimented 2 shakes in or not. I eat lots of protein rich food though. I am needing to get that gym membership now that we have 6 inches of snow on the ground and I hate walking and freezing in it...

HAH! This thread continues to live on! Love it. Thanks or the great advice everyone. Glad some people get my sense of humor in this thread.

With a little twerk you pants hit the floor belt buckled... Grocery shopping decreased by half. Health supplements increased 10 fold...

Yep, echoing what Jess said. I'm almost 3 months post and just now realizing what my new norm is. I still can eat all the carb food, sweets and whatnot as well.... just in the smallest of small qualities... (which is awesome cause I can at least have a taste of the good life without that killing stomach aches or foaming or whatever others have) The social interactions around food, going out and whatnot is whats super weird still... Friends opened a killer mexican resturant and had a soft opening last week. Every menu item on the table for us to try... and I only wish I had my old stomach cause it was all so amazing... But after 1 small taco and a bite of a churro I was done for the night...

@zone_03 and @DaAlchemist Thanks guys. Regarding work, I felt 100% by day 6. But definately depends on how your body heals, age, health status... For me I'm 32, 6'3, no pre-op health conditions except being large and in charge... I've read some guys with high blood pressure, diabetes... and so forth having post-op issues in recovery... Also I've come to realize that the stories you read aren't the norm... You will read 9 bad stories to 1 good story. And these forums seem to be a spot for people to greave, complain or find out if "they are normal"... Good luck on your journeys. M

I’m 3 months post. Down 80lbs. And walking out of every pair of pants I own. Excited to be cleared now to do some weight training as I do feel my muscles have shrunk a bit in the weight loss.

@Waler and @DropWt4Life Thanks for the tips and encouragement. I drive heavy machinery for part of my job and so my habit can hopefully be curbed there by just not having stuff in my cooler on those days. While I'm at my desk though I think the whole, get up and move a bit more might help some of that too. Both are higher stress jobs but lots of hurry up and weight. So I think that my mental game will be tested a bit.

So I'm just over 2 months post. Down 72lbs as of this morning. Feeling amazing. However I am noticing that with my diet being open to whatever food I want, at work I find myself often bored and grabbing a handful of nuts, or a couple 5cent candies, or some jerky or or or or or.... Before I get the keyboard heroes telling me about this cardinal sin in weight loss. I am still loosing weight drastically (roughly 1.5 lbs a day atm), my calories even with the snacks sit under 1200cal daily. And I'm likely overthinking it... I guess I'm asking how some of you with slower jobs/desk jobs handle the old habits like this? My go too is sunflower seeds which keeps me busy and has some pretty awesome protein surprisingly... But I guess even that is a crutch of the habit. The mental game I tell yah... learning to be a new person isn't easy... but its worth it... Yea, I'm likely overthinking it

Good work on the weight loss. I won't try to repeat what others have said but some good points above. I think if you polled the people on these forums and those of us who have gone through it, there is more who think we should have done it sooner than not. Like you said, those who are discouraging you to follow through haven't dealt with being overweight. At the end of the day, its your choice, and you are the one who has to live with it. Not them. Yes, the first bit sucks, but I'm 2 months post op and down 70lb myself and feeling like this should have been done years ago. The feeling of people's encouragement and me walking literally out of my jeans as they fall to my ankles has given me some new found confidence. Do your research. Get your referrals. Don't let fear dictate, but allow the "what ifs" drive your hope as your walk into this journey. M

It definitely gets better. Heal yourself up, you do not want to compromise your stitches in your stomach or make the healing prolonged. In the grand scheme this is just a blimp of the rest of your life.
-
@MowryRocks you may be the exception to the rule. You also may be in a stall and need to change up your game plan to confuse your body. I don't know, I'm just guessing.

@ezziriah drink lots and lots of water. 10lbs for a lot of us is usually bloat and water retention and counter to popular belief, the more water you drink, the more water retention you'll loose. It will also flush out your organs and help them function properly.

@DoodleLover203 haha! Wow, you are a crusty one. I wasn't kidding and there is no bravado. My advice you can find anywhere and everywhere online, and with the information given by the OP. My advice was the simplist and easiest way to loose weight pre AND Post surgery. It's basic math, eat less calories than you take in. Now given the OP has knee issues, I would suggest still looking at moving more, but just be aware and careful. Low impact excersises. Yes, diet is very much apart of it as XY above states but you have to know that we have a body and metabolism that is in hibernation mode and it needs to be shocked our of it or awoken to start burning more calories while we are in a resting heart beat. So again. My advice stands. Take it or leave it (and your hypersensitivity) at the door. Eat less, move more = weight loss

Fair enough, good luck in your journey

@MrsG#1 go to NatureBox.com it's like a really thick piece of meat. Think granola bar size. Pretty tender. Easy protein for on the go. I just noticed there is a referral thing where you can get free snacks and I can get a credit if you want to use it. Pm me an email address if you like. Why not get free stuff?
-
Heads up. Just found these on Nature Box. Pork bar with 20g of protein. 110 cal. 3g sugar. 5g fat. Little salty, but tasty. Not bad for $3. I just ordered a bunch of them.
-
I also heard Meth is a great dietetic... (kidding obviously)
-
@DoodleLover203 it is that simple, we just don't have the discipline for it. Thus the knife wounds in our stomachs.
-
Hahah. The 3rd person talk is great. But yes. Cindy will have to leave straws alone for the first while as well.
-
Eat less, move more... pretty simple.

Crossing the Mexico border back into the US
Mersh replied to Kennalb's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
We crossed on a Thursday and it took maybe 45min using the non-medical line in the morning around 9am. -
We had the same surgery date it looks like July 10th. I made some gauc the other day and had a chip with it to taste... didn't kill me. But probably not the best idea nutritionally. Some people I guess eat pork rinds. I can't do it. Not my thing. Luckily I have some almonds/cashews or sunflower seeds to help keep it at bay.

@c1ndy Yep! I'm pretty stoked on my progress so far. Lots to go though. Only about 25% of the way there. Yea, I can't wait until I can say I loss the equivalent of a whole fat guy though. HAH! The whole sipping water thing is tough. For me I used to be able to down galons no issue, usually in a couple sittings. But now its hard to even hit my goal of not dehydrating. I'm glad my job has me either driving farm machinery or at a desk so I can keep water close by. Sad cindy won't worry too much once she starts dropping the lb's.. trust me. So worth it
